Here Yee here Yee .. order in the point task!  Welcome back to our newest weekend undertaking called 'MAKE THE CASE'.. a PT to comment, reply and discuss some of the leagues most discussable topics...

Task: Choose 1 or more of the topics below. Begin your task with the word 'For' or 'Against' and then make the case for what ever side you chose! but be sure to give good reasons and back up your claims because someone on the other side of the topic may call 'BS!' and counter your post!

every 'For', 'Against' or 'BS!' that meets our 25 word or more criteria will recieve 1 TPE.. while '8' people will be chosen as Participation+ members and will receive an additional uncapped TPE!

This seasons Make the Case topics are:

Code:

Code:
Calgary's Otis B. Driftwood could do the unthinkable and win the scoring title as a defenseman.

Code:
With the additions of Artemi Berezin and Sophia Bennett the best team in the SHL is now.. the West Kendall Platoon

Code:
Currently boasting a .571 winning pct.. The San Fransisco Pride will not make the playoffs.

Code:
The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.

Code:
By S49 the Chicago Syndicate will climb past New Orleans as the better expansion franchise.

Code:
With 5 rookies in the starting lineup the New England Wolfpack will hold off Chicago, Tampa and Hamilton and make the playoffs.

Code:
Recent trades have pushed the Los Angeles Panthers out of post season aspirations until S51.

Code:
The Best juniors player in the world... Espen Knutsen Jr. of Detroit.

Code:

Against: The St. Louis Scarecrows have officialy moved passed the Kelowna Knights as the best SMJHL team of the S40's.

Both teams have won 3 Four Star Cups in a row and both teams have appeard in 4 finals. Though Kelowna Knights still have the slight edge with 2 Laurifer Trophy wins while the St. Louis Scarecrows have had none in the same period.

Against - For the Pride to be removed from the playoffs that means either Minnesota, Winnipeg or LA would need to surpass them. The last two are amidst what appears to be a rebuild/retooling so I doubt they leap over San Fran. The Minnesota Chiefs certainly have the players to do so, but they've struggled mightily this season. I think the Pride should secure a wild card seed come the end of the regular season.

against. St. Louis has arguably been the class of the SMJHL in recent years, beating Kelowna in the Four Star Cup multiple times. Joe K, TML, and Nictox have been the best GMs in the J by far.

For. San Francisco has finally broken out of their seemingly eternal rebuild in great fashion, with Tanner starring and Jeff Brogen breaking out. They’ll make the playoffs this year.

For. The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.

The SMJHL is a place for people to test their builds and players against people of equal skill, and also to provide an environment for rookies to the SHL site to learn. Most players only spend 2-3 seasons there, so having the cap reachable after 1 is perfect. If the cap wasn't reachable until the end of the second season, many players would be called up before they reached it. Right now it is in the perfect place to keep the SMJHL competitive and fun.

The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
For: Alongside the "raise the cap!" argument we also see people arguing that the SMJHL is meant to introduce people to the league, and making a first year player that much less powerful in comparison to higher TPE rookies completely goes against that goal - if a team is full of 500 TPE players then a 250 TPE rookie is that much less likely to get ice time. And season after season we see people complaining that no one comes up to the SHL as true rookies anymore - if we let folks dominate the SHL with 500 TPE they have less of an incentive to come up and continue to grow than if they're stagnant at 350 TPE.

The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
Against: The 350 TPE cap has done far more harm than good. Look at the numbers on how many players have gone inactive after hitting 350 TPE. It's not a coincidence that once memberscan't add more TPE they get bored with their player.

Code:
Recent trades have pushed the Los Angeles Panthers out of post season aspirations until S51.
For: I personally think the SHL's turnover is incredibly slow. Look at how long the Connor Tanner, Tor Tuck and Brady McIntyre have been on the same team. It's been at least 5 seasons and the only reason it won't be 10 seasons is because Connor Tanner hasn't updated in a while. If you go all in for a rebuild in this league you get rewarded with long term success, but you're in for immediate long term failure for a long time.

Code:
By S49 the Chicago Syndicate will climb past New Orleans as the better expansion franchise.
For: I don't think this should come as a surprise to anyone. Chicago went long term, New Orleans went short term. It's going to be a success for both teams, New Orleans got their cup. Chicago got their accelerated rebuild done through the draft. Now NOLA has to live with the fact that every one of their top players are regressing hard (except DeMaricus Smyth but he's 2 seasons out). NOLA has good players in the system, CHI just seems like they have more imo.

I just don't see why he wouldn't be able to. He's going to have to hold off Visser which is a huge task in itself, but the guy is an apple farmer. He's a fucking orchard.

With 5 rookies in the starting lineup the New England Wolfpack will hold off Chicago, Tampa and Hamilton and make the playoffs.

FOR - for obvious reasons. This is just the beginning, and even with the amount of youth we have, Johannes Leitner has taken a monumental step forward in his development, veterans Bitties, Gotze and Ulrich are performing to their capabilities, and we're getting solid depth scoring from our third line. SLAM THAT FOR BUTTON FAM!

The Hamilton Steelhawks 7-13 start should not come as a shock.

For: The Steelhawks lacks top-end talent to be seen as a shoo-in a playoff team, mainly on defense. The decline in player quality is steep after Phelps and Kryyst.

FOR: I agree. Calgary right now is entirely dependent on their top line creating offense to the point that their top pair of defense is more offense oriented than defense oriented. If Mike Izzy can keep putting the biscuit in the basket off of Driftwood's passes he'll surpass Visser and Vakarian for sure.

Extremely premature take. Both teams have had periods of domination, with Kelowna being the dominant team in the front half of S40s and St. Louis being the dominant team in the back half so far. Both teams are even for "Best Team of the S40s" right now, and one will have to step up in the remaining seasons if they want to change that.

FOR: but for a different set of reasons
1. NEW doesn't exactly have a bad team. The best defenseman in the league plus a top line of Enqvist, Robert and Gotze is nothing to sneeze at.
2. They're not leaning entirely on these players. Dick Clapper is on the 2nd line and Perry Morgan - Guy Zheng is the 2nd pair, but like I said before they have some great players to fill in the gaps
3. The three teams NEW is holding off are really not that great. Tampa's only real player is Lagerfield, Hamilton's talent drops off hard after Kryyst and Phelps, and Chicago still hasn't finished their player development after

Watch out for the future, Ace has proven again that he knows how to rebuild a team and stock the shelves with talent.

The Wolfpack are relying on a lot of rookies sure, but many of those have had multiple SMJHL seasons to prepare and are among the highest earners of their classes. We also have the star power provided by players like Tigole Bitties and Rafe Ulfrich.
