Both teams have won 3 Four Star Cups in a row and both teams have appeard in 4 finals. Though Kelowna Knights still have the slight edge with 2 Laurifer Trophy wins while the St. Louis Scarecrows have had none in the same period.
against. St. Louis has arguably been the class of the SMJHL in recent years, beating Kelowna in the Four Star Cup multiple times. Joe K, TML, and Nictox have been the best GMs in the J by far.
Against, I wouldnt put Nictox in the lump of Joe K and TML just yet. Also St louis has not been the best class of the SMJHL in recent seasons. in S47, Anahiem, Lethbridge, Kelowna has better draft classes respectivly. in S46 Halifax and Kelowna had the better draft class to date, drafting more players and having a higher average TPE. In S45 its both Kelowna and St Louis that had great draft classes
In S44 Detroit and Halifax had the better draft classes. in S43 Vancouver, St Louis and Anchorage had the best draft classes so far.
So yes St Louis have drafted some great players, but season by season they arent the best. Id argue that Halifax and Kelowna had some great draft classes in the past 5 seasons, along with Vancouver and St Louis with Vancouver going more of the 1st gen route, getting high activity from them, and St louis is always solid in that department.

The best juniors player in the world... Espen Knutsen Jr. of Detroit.
FOR: Looking at stats alone, by leading the league in goals, Espen is a proven goal scorer besides proclaiming to be a pass-first center. he also maintains his league-leading production while consistently playing a minute less a game than most players that are chasing him, and he averages 4 minutes a night on a league-average Detroit Falcon's penalty kill, which puts him in the top 3 for PK minutes among the top 60 point scorers in the league. Recency bias aside, Espen is coming off a historic game where he scored 4 goals and 2 assists against a Kelowna team that has 11 capped players, the best single-game performance many league members have ever seen. Last but not least, to destroy any counter-argument, Espen does not rely on powerplay points any more than the other league-leaders, and his 4 even strength goals against Kelowna proves his strength during even strength hockey. Espen is making a good case for regular season MVP this season, with many pundits crediting him with lifting Detroit out of the basement this season with his strong two-way game and offensive vision.
Against The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
The league has grown exponentially recently and the need for people to stay in the minors an extra season or two is a reality. If someone hits the cap and has to bank all TPE for an entire season or two, that can cause people to disengage and lead to people going inactive.

FOR: The St. Louis Scarecrows have officially moved passed the Kelowna Knights as the best SMJHL team of the S40's.
Both teams have won four star cups, but in recent season, the job done by GMs JKortesi81, TML99, and Nictox have been second to none. Bringing in rookies and helping them succeed in the junior leagues is a scarecrows tradition. Lower draft picks who boomed into league leaders, such as Aleister Cain and Gordie Boomhover (#GordieWent87th), were key components to getting to the point that the Scarecrows are at now. Despite Kelowna making the finals 4 times in the last 6 seasons, the Scarecrows have grown into a franchise junior team that has the chance to continue its path of winning. In terms of regular season success over the last 6 seasons plus halfway through the most recent season (as of May 3rd sim), the Scarecrows have gone (211-128-34, 456 points) and the Kelowna Knights have gone (211-134-28, 450 points). Looking at regular season success the teams are about the same so any argument over more Laurifer trophies cannot be made. However it is worth noting that without S47 included in this, the Scarecrows have (194-123-33, 421 points) and the Knights have (200-123-27, 427 points). All in all I think both teams have been about equal over the seasons from S40 on to now, but with the growth that St Louis has been making in their rookies and their entire core, it will be exciting to see where they go and I believe that this will give them the upper hand in becoming the best SMJHL team of the S40s.

With the additions of Artemi Berezin and Sophia Bennett the best team in the SHL is now.. the West Kendall Platoon
For.
WKP is currently on an 8-game winning streak right now, that speaks for itself. WKP beat the 17-2 Blizzard right after the Berezin trade letting the league know that they’re a serious contender. We have 1100+ TPE players on the third line right now, so there’s no lack of depth there.

Currently boasting a .571 winning pct.. The San Fransisco Pride will not make the playoffs.
Against. I think this is finally the year that the Pride make it into the postseason. The team is coming along good, and with Grape leading the way, I feel they may just shock everyone and end up as a strong contender out of the West.

Recent trades have pushed the Los Angeles Panthers out of post season aspirations until S51
Against. We already have a young forward core in place and our defense is being addressed as we speak. It might take a season or two but I can't see us being out of the post season all the way until S51.

Against: With the additions of Artemi Berezin and Sophia Bennett the best team in the SHL is now.. the West Kendall Platoon
The best team in the SHL was and is the Edmonton Blizzard. WKP is making some great moves and an already strong squad is in even better position to succeed. If there weren't a clear runaway winner, WKP might be able to claim the "best" label right now. But Edmonton has absolutely dominated this season. The only team to rank in the top 3 on both offense and defense, owners of the league's #1 PP, and the top hitters in the league, Edmonton is balanced, well-coached, and a nightmare to play against. Their cup title in S45 suggests this year is no fluke, either. To assume WKP's additions immediately vault them to the top is disrespectful to the history of sports. When LeBron and Bosh joined DWade in MIA, they didn't win immediately (and Berezin and Bennett are no Lebrons, no offense). Vegas traded for Mark Stone and got bounced in the first round.
Tampa dominated all year and got SWEPT in the first round. Wait, shit, that's a counter point. It might take time for the new additions go gel on the ice; stability is the secret ingredient here and EDM is the best in the league until we see otherwise.

With 5 rookies in the starting lineup the New England Wolfpack will hold off Chicago, Tampa and Hamilton and make the playoffs.
Hell yeah New England is gonna hold them off and make the playoffs. We've got the best defenseman in the league in Bitties carrying my scrub player and our top line can hang with anyone. Those other teams just don't have the talent to keep up with us even with our 5 stud rookies. Book your playoff tickets now.

What we see here is that West Kendall made a nice jump from 7 to 3 after Gordie's last comparison (
S46 comparison )
Two teams are still considered to be better, which are Buffalo and New Orleans. None of West Kendall lines is considered to be the best, although they got depth with their 3rd line being 2nd overall.
What also is remarkable is the fact that the team severely lacks some grit, i.e. checking. The only thing West Kendall really excels in compared to the other teams is skating, so no i wouldn't say they are the best team now, but they made good strides.

"The St. Louis Scarecrows have officially moved passed the Kelowna Knights as the best SMJHL team of the S40's."
FOR
I am all for this statement. Not only am I supporting my current SMJHL team, but the crows have some of the greatest depth on the planet. tell me how a team's third line is looking to average a combined 130 points? Not only is the depth impressive, but IF (and i know this is very debatable) the crows win the championship again, they would be the first SMJHL team to win it 4 times in a row. Making history is definitely a serious piece of evidence proving that the S40's crows are one of the deadliest SMJHL teams this league has ever seen

The St. Louis Scarecrows have officialy moved passed the Kelowna Knights as the best SMJHL team of the S40's.
Agaisnt - They have not drafted the high end goon talent of David Vent and Co, and the fact that a Knight is just cooler than a scarecrow really nails home the fact that St Louis just isnt better, nor ever will be better than Kelowna

For: By S49 the Chicago Syndicate will climb past New Orleans as the better expansion franchise.
Looking only at roster strength I think this is an easy call to make. The Syndicate have had two excellent drafts filling up their system with some of the best young players in the SHL like Martijn Westbroek, Corey Kennedy, Daniel Smeb, Parker Smeb, Kit Smeb, etc. The Syndicate are going to be an extremely dangerous teams with all those players hitting their peaks at the same time and all of them showing that they're willing to make sacrifices to stay together. The Specters meanwhile will have their work cut out for them, after looking to go the win now route, they'll soon have a very big part of their core in regression and will need to freshen their team up soon.
Against: The Best juniors player in the world... Espen Knutsen Jr. of Detroit.
Knutsen Jr may have 2 points over the player with the next most points but that's nothing out of this world like the Chiefs first liners of S46. It's only his first season at the top of the scoring charts and I'd much rather go with players like Borromini Cannellini, Olivier Cloutier and Xena who were all top 10 players last year and are once again top 10 players or better this year. If the juniors functioned properly, Knutsen likely wouldn't even be a top 10 player......which brings me to my next argument.
Against: The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
The SMJHL is living in the stone age with this cap and the fact that it's still where it is is ridiculous. Sorry, but it had to be said. A 25 TPE increase since its introduction about 30 seasons ago while overall TPE has increased at a much higher rate and there are many more send downs still in the league. It's ridiculous and there's no realism whatsoever to it. Cannellini is coming off an absolutely dominant S46 and has been overtaken by a younger player. So much fluctuation between players' performances every season because there's a completely non existent skill gap after your rookie season and everything is based on randomness. It's quite telling that a big chunk of the "BuT iT's A jUnIoR lEaGuE" brigade haven't been involved in the league for a while because the juniors don't benefit from the current system either with maybe a handful of them getting more than 10-15 points if they're given good linemates. A small, seasonly incremental cap increase is needed. Something like allowing the 40 capped TPE that a player can gain every season to be applied to their capped SMJHL build wouldn't create a situation where 600+ TPE players are walking all over the league but would create a bit of a skill gap to at least add a different dimension to the league than "Oh I hope SimonT likes my player this season".

The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
AGAINST: Sorry I just really don't think this is right. I have been capped since the offseason of my first year and spending 3 extra years gaining teps for my rookie season is boring as fuck. I think their should be a cap per season played.

Quote: The SMJHL has it right with the 350 TPE cap.
I disagree, I feel the skill gap is too large from the SMJHL to the SHL, players shouldn't be banking 200+ tpe in order to be an effective player in the SHL and that's currently the case. If you increase the cap to 400 or 450 you can lower the skill gap from juniors to the big league and keep people more engaged. We see a large drop off in user activity when they hit 350 TPE and are only banking TPE, increasing the cap solves that.
