Weekend Funtime: Wild Card (S47)

Which city of the 4 teams would you like to have tickets for and why?

Definitely Chicago. It's a booming city with a lot to offer from culture to sports to food. I'm not sure what's going with their pizza but I'd be curious to try it. And the Syndicate are just a pretty cool team.

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?

I would definitely buy a Ray Bork jersey. I'm a big fan of fellow second pairing defensemen and Ray Bork is among the best in terms of second pairing defensemen. I've been competing against this guy all season and I respect his game and would like to give him my full support for the playoffs.

Who needs to step up for there team to win?

In the Texas/SFP series i think its going to come down to star power. Texas has it with Louie Garrett, a hall of fame talent in his prime and someone that you can count on a steady supply of points in high level moments. SFP needs to find there solution for garrett on the offensive side and i think Gueko Muerto could be that guy. Anchoring the top line and a player build that can now dominate a short series its Muertos time to rise up and carry a Pride team looking for heros.

Who needs to step up for there team to win?

@Kylrad needs to step up big time. He played almost 23 min per game this season and was still behind @O4L in points and hits. If Chicago wants to win they need their selfish coach to step up and earn those free minutes he gives himself.

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?

100% Scotty "Spiderman" Crawfling.

He is my hero from our Raptor / Mammoth days and nothing would make me happier! In fact I'd buy 2, one home and one away!

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?

I would buy the jersey of Reginald Rove for a couple reasons. One, as the first draft pick of the JayWhy era, he helps to symbolize the current era of the Manhattan Rage. Second, I hear Rove is a pretty cool dude. Third, he is one of the alternate captains, so I'd get a cool A on the jersey.

Is there a goalie advantage in either match up and why?

In the Chicago vs Manhattan series, the goaltending match-up definitely goes in favour of the Chicago Syndicate and starting netminder, Jay Bae. Bae finished the season with a 22-19-3 record with an impressive 0.915 save percentage and 2.84 goals against average with four shutouts. On the other end of the spectrum, Manhattan's Scottey Crawfling finished the season with a record of 22-17-2 record, stopping just 90% of the shots faced and allowing 3.12 goals per game with a single shutout. In my opinion, Jay Bae has the definite advantage between the pipes and if Chicago is able to pull off the series win, Bae will be a big reason why.

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?

It's a pretty straight forward question, it would be my teammate and linemate from my Junior days with the St.Louis ScareCrows Matthew Auston from the Manhattan Rage. Being a mid-season acquisition for the Rage coming over from the Panthers, Auston has quickly acclimated to the Rage grind em out style, that I used to play in my early years in the SHL.

Are there any young players in these match ups that are ready to step up in on the leagues center stage?

In the league's history, there has been no bigger and better family than the Aittokallios. The biggest part of that being their clutch gene. Look back, Jakub won 2 Cups in his first 2 playoff appearances, was the first goaltender to win 3 Cups, held the record at retirement for most playoff wins, and had the most wins, highest sv% and lowest gaa in elimination games in SHL history at the time of retirement. Jason wwnt 12-2-0 in one postseason, won 2 Cups in 3 playoff appearances and never went any shorter than the Finals in Manhattan.

Jax has big shoes to fill as the Aittokallio heritage is littered with clutch play in playoff games. Chicago has a big task ahead of them to keep him stifled and silent when the lights are brightest.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?

If I were going to buy a jersey, it would have to be Manhattan's. As a person from Wisconsin, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything from Chicago, and I find Texas as a state to be annoying as fuck. San Francisco would be cool because I like purple, but as a fat guy I'd end up looking like Mabel from Men On a Mission.

Is there an area which a team can exploit on their opponent?
Manhattan's goaltending has been subpar all year, and that's an excellent opportunity for Chicago to capitalize on. Their main guy, Scottey Crawfling, has a meager .900 save percentage, while Chicago has been solid with starter Jay Bae rocking a .915 save percentage. There's a huge advantage there, and Chicago can definitely exploit that by lighting their goalie up. The more shots they get, the more the disparity is likely to become apparent.

Is there a managerial advantage in either match up and why?
Manhattan has the managerial advantage, as JayWhy has been a GM for multiple years while Velevra is only in his second year in his GM tenure. JayWhy fought off the Toronto North Stars despite being an underdog in last year's playoffs, so he knows what it takes strategically to win a series, and has a lot of experience with the quirks of STHS.

Code:
Who needs to step up for there team to win?
Chicago needs offense to win their series, as they don't have an elite defenseman core, with no defensemen over 1000 TPE. Luke Atmey has been leading the charge for Chicago, registering 58 points in 50 games, and looking no worse for wear. He will need to carry his offense into the postseason, as he is over 20 points ahead of the next scorer on his team, so they will be relying on him to carry the load for goal scoring. In fact, he may need to be even better than he was in the regular season, as Manhattan has a lot of depth scoring that he will need to match.

Is there a goalie advantage in either match up and why?
As previously mentioned, Chicago has a massive advantage in terms of goaltending, as Jay Bae has been much more consistent and reliable than the struggling Scottey Crawfling. Many expected Manhattan to lead their conference this year, but goaltending has really sunk them, with Crawfling letting up tons of goals night in and night out. For comparison, Crawfling's 3.12 GAA is higher than Chicago's backup, Billy Sorokin, who has a 3.00 GAA, so Chicago's backup has literally performed better. Goaltending is a huge weakness for Manhattan; the numbers don't lie.

Are there any young players in these match ups that are ready to step up in on the leagues center stage?
Chicago has some youngsters that have had excellent rookie seasons, namely two of the Smebs, Parker Smeb and Kit Smeb, who had 28 and 26 points campaigns respectively. This is only their first season, so in the playoffs, they will likely be brimming with confidence and looking to increase their pace. Next season as well, they could also be looking at breaking the thirty point mark; at such an early stage in their career, they're already showing a lot of promise.

Code:
Code:
Which city of the 4 teams would you like to have tickets for and why?
I'd love to have tickets to San Francisco, because I always wanted to visit California and see the Golden Gate Bridge. Also, Pride fans have been long-suffering, so I bet there will be a lot of energy and excitement in that building to see their team finally make the real season. I was a believer in the Pride's capability before the season began, when everyone laughed at the idea, so I'd like to see them prove the haters wrong.

How do you see this series playing out?
Well, I foresee Manhattan edging Chicago in spite of their goaltending weakness just because the Syndicate have very little depth and have only one star players, and no defense. After acquiring Poopity Scoop, they've added an elite young defenseman who plays an aggressive, visionary, physical game, and solidified their skating core over the last few seasons. They're young, have a lot of heart, and want to achieve the heights they did last year to show they're not a fluke, so I have a feeling they'll dig deep to win the series.

As for the other series, I think contrary to popular belief, San Francisco will win; while I mentioned the goalie difference in the first series, there's an even larger gap between the Pride's goalie and the Texas Renegades' goalie. While Partridge is their starter and performs about the same as Walter Hobbs around the unimpressive .900 mark, they have a wild card, Patrice Nadeau, who I think might get the nod. Nadeau has posted .937 save percentage numbers in 6 appearances, and in spite of small sample size bias, I think Nadeau can carry the Pride to the next round and let them triumph against a superior opponent skater-wise.

I believe both series will go 6 or 7 games.

Code:
What player are you worried about in there series and why?
I'm worried about James Dekens for Manhattan, because his 13.7 shooting percentage is bound to level off and likely unsustainable, and the playoffs would be the wrong time for that inevitable regression to take place. The Rage will want him to continue being an effective converter and a solid sniper, and that's a lot of pressure to put a guy under.

Code:
Code:
Is there a team in either series that match up well against Nola or WKP if they could advance? .. if so how come?
If Texas advanaces, they could compete against the superior teams simply because of their depth; they have two elite players in Liam O'Callaghan and Louie Garrett, and six other 30+ point players, so they could be firing on all cylinders and have scoring threats on every line, much like the super teams.

If you were to buy a jersey of one of the players involved in these series, who would you buy and why?
I would definitely buy Barret McCarthy's jersey, because he's had two great campaigns in the pros, including a 34 point campaign this season, and he is a close friend of mine. I believe he will one day be a Hall of Famer, and I'll be proud to say I was one of the first to get on the hype train.

Chicago's manager Velevra in my most honest and humbled opinion, with absolutely not bias, because he is not my GM or teammate or drafted me or anything, has the upper hand in the matchup versus Manhattan. He has been an IIHF simmer for ever, and knows how the sim works. He also has led a younger team to the playoffs with a lot of wits and determination. For this reason Chicago in my opinion will win this series.

I'd buy a Daniel Karlsson shirt, maybe I could bleach it and recolor it teal so that you could mistake it for an Erik Karlsson shirt. That or Luke Thomason cause a rage Thomason shirt could be worth a lot later in his carer.

RETIRED

Who needs to step up for there team to win?

The second defenseman pair of Chuck Crutchfield and Harvey Danger need to step up both offensively and defensively, because if San Francisco use up all their resources to stop O'Callaghan and The Dude, the second pair can do some serious damage.

The Smeb brothers need to step up for the Chicago Syndicate. With that brother chemistry they can turn an entire season around if they get going in a groove. Much of hockey is the battle between the bottom 6 of teams and especially 3rd lines. So much hype has been on about the Smeb dynasty and now it's their moment to grab it.
