With the S11 draftee picking up steam in many scouting reports, this has really started to turn some heads. He has been a stud in the junior leagues, as he lit up the OHL last year with the Barrie Colts. The biggest knock on Chezno’s play has been his ability to play a “bigger†game. Chezno has been great as a passer, scorer and overall team leader. However, most of his defensive skill is reliant on his positional play and smart stick play. Chezno has a fairly decent frame, but many scouts have said he isn’t strong enough to play in the SHL. He has started to turn heads as he’s shown a new mean streak to his game. There has been no better defense for the last two seasons for the Barrie Colts. Chezno was selected in the second round of the Priority Selection two years ago and has been a blessing for the team ever since. His first year in the OHL he only played 50 games, but was able to register 30 points (7 G, 23 A). Many scouts had been impressed with his early success - none could have predicted his sophomore season. Vinny Chezno lit the league up, as he played 63 games and was able to register over a point per game. He scored 25 goals and 42 assists (67 points). This got scouts from all over the world to notice Chezno. After the season ended, he said that he would opt to go on the path to the SHL. His first shot would be the upcoming NWJHL draft where he is expected to land in the later rounds. The biggest question is whether or not Chezno can keep up at his pace of improvement. If he can, his potential is unlimited. There have been many instances of players that are just a flash in the pan. Chezno has dedicated his entire off-season to the gym, but can that be enough. He’s shown that his skill level is elite in the junior level, but it’s still in question if he can make it in the SHL. Time will tell if the SHL and NWJHL scouts believe in his promise. 411 words.
