WFT's: Make the Case (S48)
#91

The Manhattan Rage (6-13-4) who are currently in last place will storm back in the 2nd half and capture 1 of the 5 playoff spots in the Western Division.

Not going to happen, they just don't have the right energy this season. They should bounce back next season and get back into the playoffs but this is the year of random bullshit.

It's become clear that the torch has officaly been passed to the S39 draft class as the dominant force in the SHL.

I am for this argument because this class has two of the best players in the league in it. I am obviously talking about my own brother Tommy Tuck @Muford and the current best player in the entire SHL Brady McIntyre. I do not even need to know who else is in this class to know that they are currently a major force to be reckoned with.

While it would be nice to those on Anaheim to win two years in a row, SimonT is just too much of a meme for it to happen. Having the top seed in the playoffs is over-rated because it doesn't even necessarily mean you will win.

I mean come on. Julio is good, of that there is no doubt, but there are many better juniors prospects. The highly touted Monkey D Luffy comes to mind as a top prospect, but he isn't the only one. Even from his own draft class, he is unlikely to outshine any of Ford, Westbroek, Parmborg or Zadina, let alone all of them.

I agree in many aspects. Statistically, Julio has not sustained as long as Luffy, nor does he have the pedigree of Parmborg. If Westbroek and Zadina get sent back down and recap they could certainly make some waves, but I really don't think that they are going to do that. Ford has an impressive TPE workout regimen that has proven stronger than Julio's by far.

Julio's off-ice contributions rocket him ahead. When you consider the immeasurable locker room presence (it's just "reasonable" on a scale of "inactive" to "this guy needs a second hobby"), the media contributions from statistical analysis, comedic prose, graphic contributions, and graphic contests won, none of the current prospects (in their current builds) can hold a candle to the prairie dangler (Luffy is close though). The quality that sprays from his swingin' udders has glazed the forum in creamy beauty.

You're right, Green Lantern, why?  Julio is a hard worker, who took a job on the site and has played a role in modernizing the graphics grading process (It was Lazyeye, but I PM'd him ideas until my fingers hurt). He has $35 million stashed away, some of it earmarked for training, equipment, and a private tournament that he plans to host (details coming soon). The paint contests that he won were below is weight level; why enter them? Because this site deserves quality. This site deserves the best. Half-assing things chips away at the integrity of the league on and off the ice, and his bovine back side has given an ass and a half. Julio has been the model player on the ice, and the model league contributor off of the ice, and his dedication to his team and the shield will echo long into the future. Edmonton had the wisdom to capitalize at the number seven spot in the draft and took the most talented cow, put him in the greenest pasture in Colorado, and said "grow [your TPE]!"

[Image: tenor.gif?itemid=4385534] (there was no gif of White Goodman saying "ipso facto", so i settled (not half-assed!) on this gif)

With that in mind, I agree with Fordy's stance of "against" in this "Weekend Fun Time's: Make The Case". However, I move in the opposite direction. The canon that we acknowledge is the SHL (and some affiliated leagues for other sports?), but beyond that, there are other leagues for other sports, with different simulations, all with prospect pools, all vying for there units of skill. I move that Julio Tokolosh is not the best prospect in the world, but the best current prospect across all worlds, and universes, and limiting his dairiness to this small corner of the internet sells short what he has accomplished in terms of effort, skill, talent, and the major steps towards world peace that have occurred as a result of his actions.

I love Luffy and Parmborg's contributions as well and Julio aspire's to accomplish what they have in current builds and in previous.
Stenographer, please strike that last sentence.

I agree, the cow can paint, but does that transfer to hockey skills? Maybe.

Anaheim barely squeaked out a 7 game series against Montreal to win the cup last season. Montreal returns it's starting goaltender in capped AleksiOo'Koivu-Volkova and also have a 300 tpe backup in Mike Hunt. Montreal's goaltending should prevent Anaheim from any repeat.

Minnesota's surprising 13-9 start is backed by the strongest *top line* in the SHL in Eric Pelletier, Bobby Watson and Terrance Nova.

I want to say yes, but the McGavin (29P), Hunter Jones (24P) and Mike Izzy (26P) line is right there with them. Also the Visser, Manius and CFJ Line can make a case as well.

For. Although we have been crippled by the a scandal, we will rise back to the top, and these three strong players are the reason that this will happen.

Except we probably don’t have multiple players demanding 14M a season. At least I’m not lol.

Ahem... Tampa Bay?

The team is young but they’ve seemed to have found a winning combo (much to my surprise even being a part of it) in Andani (lol), Sawchuk and Lagerfield.

Flacko isn’t a huge surprise, he’s been the team’s top scorer since S45 when he joined the then Seattle Riot and is on pace to do so again this season. Currently tied for 3rd in league scoring with 10-19-29.

Sawchuk is definitely a surprise on the top line in his second season, but when he’s on pace to score nearly 30 goals in his sophomore season it’s hard not to play him in all situations. Currently tied for 2nd in goals with 14 and in a 9-way tie for 10th in league scoring with 14-11-25.

And Andani.... I still can’t believe he’s playing this well after being a 3rd liner for his entire career. I’m still expecting regression, but I’m praying he keeps this up and emerges as a dark horse for the MVP. Either way, he seems to be missing piece Tampa needed to be a contender this season. Currently tied for 4th in league scoring and 2nd among defined Centers with 11-17-28.

against.

only because im not going to say we WILL capture a playoff spot. all i really know is that we CAN. we have finally found our footing now its all about grinding it out and finding ways to win games. despite being dead last in the league we have had some decent special teams. if we can start pulling things together as a whole we have a chance.

Some surprising new names are leading the league in total points which includes Lil Manius (29 points), Shooter McGavin (29 points) and Anders Christiansen (28 points) .. one of these 3 will win this seasons point title.

I'm against this one. A hot start is nice, but it seems like every year when we talk about someone unexpected lighting up the league, it never ends with them on top of the standings. I think we see this trio regress below the top spot in the coming weeks

Make the playoffs, for. The first half of the season included all of our games against West Kendall and all of our backup goalie games required by rule. With those rough patches out of the way, we can start to regain our form and get back to the hockey that has gotten us into playoffs the past two season.

Capture 1 of the 5 playoff spots in the Western Division? Against. No such division exists. We're in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

FOR

Starting with Lil Manius, the entire Winnipeg Jets squad has been off to an electrifying start. The top line has been a major part of that, with the Crossfit Jesus-Jason Visser-Lil Manius line exploding for a ton of points in the first few games; Manius had reached 12 points before playing 5 games. He's come back down to earth a bit now, but he still has a very high shooting percentage and is second in the league in goals, only behind his teammate Jason Visser. Manius had a great year last season, so it's no surprise that he's built upon that breakout year this season. With the amount of ice time, quality linemates, and special teams time he receives, he flourishes in Winnipeg and could easily win the points title.

Of course he will have tons of competition; the two mentioned could easily compete. McGavin has come a bit out of left field and is new on the scoring scene, but the Toronto top line is just a work of art. Between Christiansen, Lyndis Vakarian and Mikhail Lokitonov, Toronto has some stars just gaining recognition and coming into their prime who all feed off of each other. Christiansen's assists-heavy total might be sustainable as long as his linemates keep producing as well. Christiansen is tied with Manius for the points lead in the league, so he could easily take the lead with a strong stretch or if Manius' pace slows a bit.

And there are plenty of veterans nipping at Manius' heels; his own teammate, Jason Visser, is outpacing him in the goals race and just three points behind. Flacko Lagerfield for Tampa is putting up great numbers and the main fixture in the surprising Barracuda success story this year; he's just a single point behind. And the Bobby Watson-Eric Pelletier-Terrance Nova top line has brought the Minnesota Chiefs back to line after a difficult offseason, with Terrance Nova 5th in the league scoring and just two points shy of Manius and Christiansen.

But at the end of the day, I think that Lil Manius will be the one to get it done. Manius is still adding to his build and gaining endurance, so he's getting stronger as the season progresses. He has the results from S47 to show that he's a proven commodity, so I don't even see him as that much of a surprise. It's just that folks outside the fantasy hockey wizards are starting to take notice of what he can do, and the addition of Crossfit Jesus has given his point totals a boost. The current results are well within his capabilities and there's no reason he couldn't finish the season at the top of the charts.
