Hello and welcome to the week’s edition of Hockey today, I’m your host Eva Winters. On today’s show we have a special guest St. Louis rookie Center Jakub Bruchevski! For those who don’t know Bruchevski signed with the Scarecrows early into the season missing the SMJHL draft, the entire preseason, and the first 9 games. How are you doing today Jakub?
JB: “I’m good, thank you for having me.” EW: “Let’s start at the beginning, what about the St. Louis Scarecrows interested you?” JB: “Uh, everything really, the team has one of the best track records in the SMJHL with putting out pros and winning Championships. When I first came over from Russia it wasn’t only their GM, but multiple players that showed up to welcome me into the league. Also, to go to a great city like St. Louis was a great opportunity.” EW: “St. Louis went from struggling at the beginning to having the best regular season, how do you feel about the regular season?” JB: “Our team really hit our stride, fortunately I was able to come in immediately and make a big impact scoring 3 points in my first 2 games. I started to slow down in the middle but the stars of our team really exploded players like Nicolaj Muller, Mika Kamdinsky, Barrett Blackwood, Izem Abioye, and Lyle Odelein III really showed the league how good they are. I managed to get on a bit of a run towards the end as well.” EW: “After that exciting end to the regular season it’s fair to say the team didn’t have the best of luck in the playoffs.” JB: “Yeah that’s fair to say, it really didn’t go the way we though it would. I got one assist but had a 55% face off win rate, but it wasn’t enough. Our top line played like they were but the rest of us didn’t show up, and we had a lot of penalties.” EW: “Then there was game 5 …….” JB: “Sighs Yeah game 5, we were down and just missed a chance on the power play, one of Raiders players were trash talking and I just had enough.” EW: “What did you think about getting thrown out of the game?” JB: “I couldn’t believe it, still can’t. I apologized to my teammates in the locker room after the game, but they just laughed off the whole the thing, they had my back.” EW: “The playoffs are over, but you’re not done playing this season, are you?” JB: “No, not at all I’m lucky enough to be playing not only for the UCORAL WJC team but I got the call up to represent Russia in the IIHF.” EW: “You’re obviously looking forward to it.” JB: “Yes ma’am, I can’t wait to get back on the ice and show the Russian GMs they were right to pick me.” EW: “Reflecting on the year as a whole, how was your first year?” JB: “It was amazing, the chance to play hockey at such high level was great. It was incredible to play for such a great team, and in front of fans that sell out the arena every night They provide the energy game in and game out and we really feed off that, we have the best fans in the league. The playoffs obviously left a sour taste in my mouth, but it makes me want to train harder and improve for the next season.” EW: “Speaking of next season what area of your game do you want to improve on, and were do you think St. Louis will end up?” JB: “I’m looking forward to improve my offensive game, I did well in my first season, but I know there’s a lot more in me. As for the team we are going to be right around the top again, and this year we’ll be gunning for the Four-Star Cup.” EW: “Well that’s about all the time we have for today, thank you for your time.” JB: “Thank you for having me.” Join us next week for our wall to wall draft coverage include our experts mock draft and post draft coverage in what will sure to be an exciting week in the SHL.
