The history of GMs in the major sim leagues

Disclaimer: I posted this article in the NSFL first but am also posting it in the other leagues that this relates to
Second disclaimer: It is very likely that there are a lot of mistakes in this, but I only have so much knowledge or so much ability to find things Hello my friends. As many of you know, I have had some rather ambitious and crazy articles in the past, detailing many things, but I believe this article is probably one of the most ambitious ones I have ever had. In conversations with @iamslm22 we had previously talked about the fact that him and I share the honor of having won championships in both the PBE and the NSFL as GMs (at least if you count my championships as co-GM of Orange County). It made us both wonder how many other people can say the same (spoiler alert: not many). I took the following approach: I set out to find out how many guys can say the same and then my project got a bit more ambitious even. We will get to that later. First, I made the following decision: To me, the four major sim leagues are the PBE, the NSFL, the SHL and the SBA. I am sure many people can and will argue about that decision. There are other great leagues that I neglected, the GOMHL, the EFL, or even smaller leagues that were only around a season or two like the NSHL. I took the decision to just include these four for many reasons, but to me, this is also a poetic choice, one league for each major sport. While there is not a great ton of overlap between all four leagues, there are many many users who play in more than one or even all four of these leagues. This lead me to several problems: How can I find out who and where won titles? Well, it turns out, these leagues do have a fairly good history in place, something I very much hoped for and needed for this. The NSFL keeps a list of the championships and the GMs of each team for the seasons. In the PBE, I am the head of the league history team and therefore have a fairly extensive list as well. With again, the help of slm and some others like ckroyal and GMs in each of those two leagues, we were able to fill a fairly complete list. At the bare minimum, I had the list of GMs for each team. The SHL had an absolutely extensive and fantastic list, detailing every GM of every team for their entire history. It only had one little problem: There was no info on co-GMs and while it may be possible to reconstruct around 15 seasons of history in the NSFL, reconstructing co-GMs for every team for almost 50 seasons seems basically impossible. The same issue was there for the SBA, where I could only find information on the main GMs and not co-GMs. So for the final list and numbers, despite selfish reasons, I decided to only use a team's main GM for this list. That's further down though. For now, let's return to the initial question: Who has won a championship in more than one league as GM? Let's first look who has even BEEN a GM in more than one league. Here is the list of names who have been GMs in more than one league: ADwyer87 (Arizona Outlaws in NSFL, Mercer Island Knights in SBA) AndrewWarren13 (Utah Railroaders in PBE, Milwaukee Maulers in SBA) Bayley (Outer Banks Aviators in PBE, New Orleans Second Line in NSFL) Bovo (Florida Space Rangers in PBE, New Orleans Second Line in NSFL) ckroyal92 (Outer Banks Aviators in PBE, San Jose Sabercats in NSFL) Cuffy (San Francisco Pride in SHL, Mercer Island Knights in SBA) diamond_ace (Los Angeles Rail in SBA, Manhattan Rage in SHL) Grapehead (San Francisco Pride in SHL, Orange County Otters in NSFL) iamslm22 (Vancouver Vandals in PBE, Baltimore Hawks in NSFL) JuOSu (San Antonio Sloths in PBE, New Orleans Second Line in NSFL) MWHazard (Los Angeles Rail in SBA, San Francisco Pride and Winnipeg Jets in SHL) Nuck (Manhattan Rage in SHL, Yellowknife Wraiths in NSFL) It is kind of interesting that the list is this short. I actually assumed it would be longer than that. I think it is also interesting that there seems to be a lot of overlap in teams here. You can see several teams come up multiple times, while many others never come up. I wonder if that says something about those teams? But back to the original question. How many is it? How many of those have won titles in multiple leagues? Well it depends how strict you want to be. If you want to truly only take main GMs, the list is very very short. It's actually just two names: ADwyer87 (3 championships in NSFL, 1 in SBA) iamslm22 (2 championships in PBE, 1 in NSFL) If you were to include the co-GM championships that we do actually have information on (PBE and NSFL), then the list has two more names: JuOSu (4 championships in PBE, 3 in NSFL as co-GM) manicmav36 (2 championships in PBE as co-GM, 1 championship in NSFL as co-GM) More astonishingly, ADwyer would be the only person in sim leagues who has won a title in THREE different leagues then, because he has also won 1 championship as co-GM in the PBE. A truly astonishing accomplishment! I do think that if we did have information on SBA and SHL for co-GMs, we would likely see this list slightly extended, as there is some overlap. There are several people who I think would be prime candidates for this, I know Toivo was co-GM in the SHL for a while around the time when his team won titles and he has championships as co-GM in the PBE. But it is unlikely we will ever know the true number of people. But here is the thing, now we already have this data...so why not look at the data in even more detail and figure out some more cool statistics and thoughts. Let's start with this: There are 175 GMs that have at least been GM for one season (it may be slightly more or less, at times I had to pick one person if more than one was listed per season). The average GM therefor GMs for a bit more than 6 seasons (6.4 seasons). The median GM GMs for 5 seasons. 29 GMs only did 1 season. The leagues do possess different levels of GM turnover: The PBE has had 18 GMs in 12 seasons The NSFL has had 32 GMs in 16 seasons The SHL has had 101 GMs in 48 seasons The SBA has had 36 GMs in 39 seasons Partially, that can be explained by different numbers of teams perhaps, but even just going through the data, it felt like the different leagues had different turnovers, with the SBA leading to very long stints of GMs whereas other leagues had less of that. It also heavily depends on different teams. So we have had 175 GMs, as mentioned above. How many GMs actually manage to win a championship? It turns out, 56 GMs have won a championship, roughly one third of GMs (32%). There are other questions that come to mind when I look at this data. Who is the most successful GM ever? Well, there are many ways to answer that question. We already said that ADwyer87 is the only one to have the claim he won a title in three leagues if you count his co-GM position. But there are other ways too: Who has the most championships ever? Here is the top ten (only as main GM): 12 championships - Tits McGee (all in SBA) 5 championships - Steelhead77 (all in SHL) 4 championships - ADwyer (3 in NSFL, 1 in SBA), Evans (all in SBA), JuOSu (all in PBE), Leafs4ever (all in SHL), Shaka (all in SBA), Teztify (all in SHL) 3 championships - ACE (all in SBA), Eggy216 (all in SHL), iamslm22 (2 in PBE, 1 in NSFL), JR95 (all in SHL), Leonidas (all in SBA), maxcrazy (all in PBE), Molarpistols (all in NSFL), phillycheese (all in SBA) Tits McGee absolutely crushes all the records here, with an incredible 12 championships as GM. His Brooklyn Bullets dominated the early days of the SBA, winning the first four years and later five in a row. All of his twelve titles came in the first twenty seasons of the SBA. It is an unprecedented run that will likely never be done again. However, past McGee, the field is wide open for the taking. While Steelhead77 is currently in second place, many people who are still actively GMing have won multiple titles already and could rise this ranking. With the gap between 12 and 5 being so wide, we could see GMs stepping up to try and close that gap. Before I started this project, I actually assumed that there would be more people with 5+ titles, given the immense history of the SHL and SBA, but I think the fact that most GMs don't act as GMs all that long is a major factor in this. I wonder if we will see people win more titles though going forward. I also want to point out that I was told that the ACE in SBA is not the same person as the Ace in SHL, so I treated them as two different people. I hope that is correct! Also one more disclaimer: I could not find information in the SBA for the last 6 seasons for any GM moves, so I worked under the assumption that people who were GMs at the latest point the team information pages were updated are still GMs, though that is also possible to be wrong. Since we did talk about the length of GMing, who actually had the longest tenures as GM in these leagues? Wasty - 34 seasons (all in SHL) Leafs4ever - 30 seasons (all in SHL) Tits McGee - 27 seasons (all in SBA) Evans - 27 seasons (all in SBA) ckroyal92 - 25 seasons (10 in PBE, 15 in NSFL) Steelhead77 - 25 seasons (all in SHL) Ace (SBA) - 21 seasons (all in SBA) Cuffy - 18 seasons (1 in SHL, 17 in SBA) Teztify - 18 seasons (all in SHL) Pandar - 18 seasons (all in SBA) Leonidas - 17 seasons (all in SBA) Gifter of Bikes - 17 seasons (all in SHL) phillycheese - 16 seasons (all in SBA) Bojo - 16 seasons (all in SHL) jkrever - 16 seasons (all in SHL) Adwyer87 - 14 seasons (4 in NSFL, 10 in SBA) JuOSu - 14 seasons (11 in PBE, 3 in NSFL) Grapehead - 14 seasons (1 in NSFL, 13 in SHL) ThatDamnMcJesus - 14 seasons (all in SHL) MWHazard - 13 seasons (3 in SHL, 10 in SBA) Jisohirka - 13 seasons (all in SBA) JNH - 13 seasons (all in SHL) Shaka - 12 seasons (all in SBA) WannabeFinn - 12 seasons (all in SHL) BaelorSwift - 12 seasons (all in SHL) Sixersfan594 - 12 seasons (all in SBA) diamond_ace - 11 seasons (10 in SHL, 1 in SBA) Eggy216 - 11 seasons (all in SHL) karlssens - 11 seasons (all in SHL) Ace (SHL) - 11 seasons (all in SHL) AndrewWarren13 - 10 seasons (4 in PBE, 6 in SBA) Mavfatha - 10 seasons (all in PBE) O4L - 10 seasons (all in SHL) Amazing to see some of the longest guys on this list, anything over 20 seasons is very impressive to me, but again, I also think that there will be more guys that are rising on this list and such. Beyond just being the GM, now that we have the data for how long every GM was in there, what about the best percentage of winning a championship compared to how long they were GM? xDPark - 100% (2 championships in 2 seasons) Cynthia - 50% (1 championship in 2 seasons) Tits McGee - 44.44% (12 championships in 27 seasons) maxcrazy - 42.86% (3 championships in 7 seasons) Molarpistols - 42.86% (3 championships in 7 seasons) McDonald - 40% (2 championships in 5 seasons) Shaka - 33.33% (3 championships in 9 seasons) iamslm22 - 33.33% (3 championships in 9 seasons) JR95 - 33.33% (2 championships in 6 seasons) Boon - 33.33% (2 championships in 6 seasons) FlappyGiraffe - 33.33% (2 championships in 6 seasons) Tanner - 33.33% (2 championships in 6 seasons) nuncoepi - 33.33% (1 championships in 3 seasons) SwagSloth - 33.33% (1 championships in 3 seasons) Yurt6 - 33.33% (1 championships in 3 seasons) Adwyer87 - 28.57% (4 championships in 14 seasons) JuOSu - 28.57% (4 championships in 14 seasons) Fernando - 28.57% (2 championships in 7 seasons) speculadora - 28.57% (2 championships in 7 seasons) Eggy216 - 27.27% (3 championships in 11 seasons) Nuck - 25% (1 championship in 4 seasons) MarkCM07 - 25% (1 championship in 4 seasons) Ryan0413 - 25% (1 championship in 4 seasons) xDPark did the unthinkable and seemingly retired after his only two seasons as GM where he won both titles. There are some impressive results here on this list and while some might also climb this list, it is also very feasible that people will drop on this list as they have more seasons under their belt. And since we looked at the best percentages, what about the lowest percentage? (I promise I won't show all of them, but like a top 5 - these are lowest percentages that aren't 0%) Wasty - 2.94% (1 championship in 34 seasons) ckroyal92 - 4% (1 championship in 25 seasons) Gifter of Bikes - 5.88% (1 championship in 17 seasons) MWHazard - 7.69% (1 championship in 13 seasons) Sixersfan594 - 8.33% (1 championship in 12 seasons) BaelorSwift - 8.33% (1 championship in 12 seasons) But we finally reached the true moment that every GM reading this post has dreaded... who are the GMs who have had the biggest droughts? The most seasons as a GM without ever winning a single championship? This is the list: Bojo - 16 seasons jkrever - 16 seasons Grapehead - 14 seasons ThatDamnMcJesus - 14 seasons JIsohirka - 13 seasons JNH - 13 seasons diamond_ace - 11 seasons Ace (SHL) - 11 seasons AndrewWarren13 - 10 seasons O4L - 10 seasons Brandon - 9 seasons Dankoa - 9 seasons JayWhy - 9 seasons Goosharp01 - 8 seasons JayTee - 8 seasons KCCO - 8 seasons Maxy - 8 seasons tlk742 - 8 seasons With all of this data, we have a lot of cool statistics and new knowledge, that I don't think I ever thought about or had before. It was really cool to do this project and I hope that you all enjoyed it just as much. If I find myself bored again and there is sufficient data, I might try to do the natural next step....figure out which user has won the most championships as a player in their combined careers...but who knows if the data is sufficient to tackle such a thing, which would take even much more longer. Like I said before, I am posting this in all four leagues, so feel free to comment and such. I hope to see lots of thoughts and comments. If you have any further questions or ideas, please feel free to ask. I have a great list of data now and plan to keep this list up for the future as well, which will be exciting to track any future changes. ![]() ![]() Coach back since like 2 IRL years

Read this on the SBA but cool article! Sadly I’m one championship in 14 seasons instead of 12 seasons :(
If only minor leagues counted!! 1/3 here and 1/2 on sba ![]() ![]() ![]() Registered Posting Freak
This was an awesome article. Tits McGee winning 12 championships in 27 seasons is incredible.
