Hello, this is a breakdown of the upcoming S50 SHL draft based on prospect performance in the S49 SJHL regular season. Playoff stats are not included in this list. I have a separate list for players and goalies and will have a player post in a few days. My apologies if I missed anyone, I went through each teams season stats and picked out the designated rookies, so please let me know if I've missed anyone and I will get them included. I have 7 goalies from designated rookies who are in the S50 draft class. My rankings are not based on future performance or prediction, merely a ranking and opinion on players based on their statistics from the SJHL S49 regular season. Save Percentage 1) Markus Tegernako - 89.6, 24 GP 2) Mitchell Maverick - 89.0, 16 GP 3) Rob Blake - 88.6, 9 GP 4) Shiqa Vitalievich - 88.1, 40 GP 5) Tobias Lindeman - 87.2, 11 GP 6) Monty Montgomery - 86.8, 6 GP 7) Ian Venables - 86.7, 44 GP Goals Against 1) Rob Blake - 2.78, 9 GP 2) Mitchell Maverick - 2.93, 16 GP 3) Markus Tegernako - 3.01, 24 GP 4) Shiqa Vitalievich - 3.05, 40 GP 5) Monty Montgomery - 3.07, 6 GP 6) Ian Venables - 3.13, 44 GP 7) Tobias Lindeman - 3.13, 11 GP Overall Goalies (Opinion) 1) Markus Tegernako @KlusteR - SJHL Draft: Undrafted (14-8-1) Markus had a fantastic season, playing in 24 games gives him a decent work load so the good numbers have a lot of proof to back them up. You can be sure that his numbers aren't lying and they will continue on. Short and sweet, nothing else to add, Markus is well on track to being an excellent net minder in the SHL. 2) Mitchell Maverick @Legend - SJHL Draft: 26 (5-7-1) Maverick was #2 overall in both goaltender categories and he is number 2 in this list. A portfolio of 16 games played is on the smaller side, but it is important to note that he put up good numbers with an overall losing record. The 5-7-1 stat line leads this author to believe that Maverick is primed for a breakout season with improved defense playing in front of him 3) Shiqa Vitalievich @NylarthePhoenix - SJHL Draft: 36 (20-13-2) Shiqa was an absolute workhorse this year. Playing in 40/50 games for St. Louis as a rookie is a tough feat and it appears that fatigue set in. Don't let average numbers bury them in your list, as after an off season of training and another few heavy use seasons in the SJHL Shiqa could very well emerge primed for a starting role in the SHL and could be the best goalie from this draft in a few years. Shiqa posted 20-13-2 record which is the factor that pushes them into the top 3 for me. 4) Rob Blake @jakeepoo - SJHL Draft: 24 (4-1-1) Blake led the league in goals against average and only Montgomery beat him in total goals allowed with 19 (1 less), but that was done in only 6 games played vs 9 for Blake. Kelowna found a very competent backup with their selection in the Jr. draft and whoever takes a flyer on him will have a solid go-to backup in a few years when they bring him to the big league. 5) Tobias Lindeman @dynamite - SJHL Draft: Undrafted (4-5-1) Lindeman took a while to crack the lineup and had some noticeable growing pains. He worked through them which is exactly what you want to see in a prospect. He was just shy of holding a .500 record, but didn't have much support from Anahiem this season as they held the second worst record in the league. No noticeable difference in goal between the starter and backup. He will be another interesting prospect to watch in the coming seasons as his numbers will almost certainly all go up quite a bit with a more competitive team. 6) Ian Venables @toirekari - SJHL Draft: 33 (19-20-4) Venables was in a very tough position this season and found himself playing in 44 games for the last place Armada. Not only was he the most heavily used rookie goalies, he was the 5th highest minutes played in the entire league. With some endurance training an a much needed off season break, Venables should come back in fine shape for camp next season and look for his statistical numbers to improve into top 10 league wide. 7) Monty Montgomery @CapMonty - 63 (1-2-3) Montgomery was in a difficult situation this year. Halifax was by no means an excellent defensive team, but Montgomery was only able to provide 1 win in 6 games played. His goals against numbers were middle of the pack, but his save percentage needs to drastically improve. The only positive is that Montgomery should be primed for the starter role next season in Halifax assuming Edmonton pulls up Biz Nasty for the backup role, so his opportunities should skyrocket to see what he is made of.

Edit: I'm an idiot and misread and misunderstood the post. Leaving this here to show my idiocy tho
I was just thinking about Goalie performance as well. However, I think you left out what I would consider the most important piece when factoring SHL draft order - Activity. And without that I think your draft order is quite skewed. Quote:1) Markus Tegernako @KlusteR - SJHL Draft: Undrafted (14-8-1) Markus Tegernako @KlusteR - Joined 8/2 and has updated every week. A great earner in this draft class Mitchell Maverick @Legend - Recreate player. Very consistent earner and likely known by the GMs Tobias Lindeman @dynamite - Joined 8/15. Missed the initial draft and the TPE that goes along with prospects, fantasy, etc. Hasn't missed an update since joining. He's also quite active on Discord (I just happen to know this since he's on Anaheim with me) Ian Venables @toirekari - Based on my read of the actives, Ian's got the highest TPE goalie from the class. He's also very active in the S50 discord and consistently putting out media. I'm no GM - but I'd bet Ian is on plenty of SHL GM's short lists for goalie Then we have the others that may be inactive: Shiqa Vitalievich @NylarthePhoenix - has done 2 updates and hasn't been seen since. I wouldn't rule Shiqa out b/c life can get busy and it's only been 2 weeks since last login - but isn't looking great Rob Blake @jakeepoo - Rob was extremely active pre-draft but hasn't shown up since. Not a single update since draft week. Complete bust at this point and definitely not the top rookie draft goalie Monty Montgomery @CapMonty - Also hasn't updated since pre-draft. Not a lot to say here Make sure you keep activity in mind!

I purposefully left out activity, and agree if you are a drafting team that is going to be the #1 factor. I just wanted to look at pure stats with this ranking, and not potentials or future numbers, so I agree that the rankings will be skewed from a pure who should I draft standpoint. I feel that including that skews all of the other stats and they become fairly pointless, which might make this post completely pointless, but I thought it would be interesting to do a stat breakdown.
I think your points are valid from a prospect breakdown point of view, but I feel that is something scouting teams would cover and is in their realm to cover draft eligibility. Maybe it would be beneficial to include a 3rd table with TPE or activity breakdown? Or even a completely separate post that focuses on future viability? based off activity and amount earned? I'm planning on a similar breakdown for skaters as well, purposefully leaving out activity and TPE. I don't think a post including those things would overlap as this ended up being an opinion piece based purely off seasonal stats.

Good point - with this in mind it completely makes sense. I actually read the Draft ranking wrong and saw it as SHL draft prediction rather than historical SMJHL draft order which confused me. You are smart I'm an idiot

I want to take the time to point out that my numbers already are top 10 league wide. I was either 9th or 10th overall for goalies this past season.

Out of all 20 goalies that played last season (2 per team, looks like Monty was the least played at the minimum 6 games I have Ian at 14th for GAA and 17th for SP. Am I missing something? On the individual leaders it has you at 8th and 9th overall for those positions, I'm not sure where it pulls those numbers from.

Backup goalies tend to play sheltered matchups so that skews the data, as well as typical small-sample accuracy problems. Sigs by @Carpy48 and @tweedledunn
