2x media pay please, poppa Krash needs some new gloves! ~700 words
As some of you fine folks may have noticed we recently had an SHL draft! A reddit one no less, so here we go let me try to break down West Kendall's day at the draft table and what brought them 3 rookies: at number 15 Andrey Barbashev II @RaiN , at 23 Karl Krashwagen @CementHands, and at 28 Jack Wilson @jtwilson1214 One thing in common with all 3 draftees is they were picked significantly higher than their SJHL draft, Barbashev II rose 17 spots from 32 overall to 15, Krashwagen rose 30 from 53 to 23, and Wilson rose a whopping 96 spots going from 124 overall (in the 14th round) all the way up to number 28 at the end of the second round. That's a massive leap, I say someone give Wilson a trophy. There were a few trades that west Kendall made in order to facilitate the picks: 1) To Winnipeg ![]() To West Kendall ![]() ![]() ![]() This trade saw WKP collect some futures with prospects and picks 2) To LA ![]() ![]() ![]() To West Kendall: LAP ![]() This trade saw WKP send the 29th overall pick along with a future second round pick to move up 6 spots to 23rd 3) To Calgary ![]() To West Kendall ![]() This was a simple swap of picks, Calgary moved up a few slots in the first round and West Kendall moved up from a 3rd round to get a late second Now let's breakdown these 3 prospects that West Kendall brought into the fold: Andrey Barbashev II - 286 TPE, Offensive Forward - Left Wing, Strengths: Scoring, Puck Handling, Skating, Weakness: Checking Andrey has a good mixture of defense, puck handling, skating and scoring. He seems to be building a prototypical sniper build which is going to give West Kendall some much needed finishing firepower on the wing. Look to Andrey to be a team leader this year in Jr. and he will be punishing goalies most nights with a fairly lethal shot. Similar Draft Picks: Phineas Gold (14), Kalevolaripaavo Käspertommevisnapuu LAP (17), James Ronlain TB (20) Karl Krashwagen - 246 TPE, Two-Way Forward - Right Wing, Strengths: Scoring, Defense, Skating, Weakness: Checking Karl is a sturdy 2-way forward who is very strong in defense and despite having a weakness in checking is known to rack up hits. When he gets called up he seems destined to slot into a shut down checking line, but careful you don't take off him, because sources say he's been working on his offense and can pack quite a punch if given the opportunity! Similar Draft Picks: Kevin Robinson (32), Marcus Weiser (40), Justin Womack (67) Jack Wilson - 275 TPE, Two-Way Defense - Defense, Strengths: Passing, Defense, Skating, Weakness: Checking Wilson is a very strong defensive prospect. He has excellent puck control, on ice vision, and very strong speed at the Jr. level. He has all the makings of a great player in the SHL once developed and he is excelling in the Jr.s in the mean time. He does not have a flashy game, but he is one of the guys you want on the ice for you late in the game if you are down a goal or up one. Very solid game and it's only getting stronger. He's also not afraid to throw the body when needed. Similar Draft Picks: Adam Barron (1), Georgy Gorbachenko(46), Akira Ren (69 - Nice) It's going to be interesting to check in with these players throughout the season and see them start to separate themselves from the pack of S50 draftees to create their own unique players. |
