Armada Sim Analysis (Sim 1: Games 1,2)
#1

So I think I am going to try and do a stat breakdown for some of the sims for the Armada this season for a few reasons. Number 1 because it sounds like fun, two because I need that sweet cash, and three because I know hardly anyone will read it. So with that lets look at how the armada performed in the first sim of the season.

Game 1: 5 – 0 vs HFX  raiders
Game 2: 2 – 0 vs COL  Raptors

So two games and two shutout wins, that is exactly the type of start that we wanted to have. I don’t think this form will continue, but from the preseason, I do expect that our defense will be solid for the foreseeable future. We do have three rookies on the blueline, all of which are active I think (maybe?) so this should scale as other teams update their lower lines as well. In terms of other team stats to look at, we only allowed 41 shots in these two games which is really, really good including only allowing HFX to 15 total. We also were lethal on the powerplay going 4 for 9 and perfect on the penalty kill going 5 for 5. Again I expect both of these to come back down. The PK should be good for us if our defensive defenseman can stay out of the box (more on this later) and the powerplay seems to work really well with Bishoff on the blue line so I would expect this to be better than what we had last season. Overall though, good results but it will come back down later especially when we come up against more potent forward groups such as DET or STL.

On the individual stat side lets look at a few notables. How I will do these is looking from the back out creating the most notable “starting lineup” from the data set im looking at.
1. Ian Venables @"toirekari" - Budgie was incredible in these two games. Granted he didn’t have much work to do in game 1 with only 15 shots making it through to him, but back to back shutouts is great for him. His build that he took from Anchorage legend Peter Larson appears to be working in his second year. There is not too much more to say here. No poor performances. Makes you wonder where was he on that Team Canada roster that under performed at the WJC?

2. Darnel Johnson @frithjofr - Darnel had maybe his best sim since I joined the Armada in these two games with three assists. Based off other data, expect Darnel to lead the Anchorage blueline in points, something you would expect as the only defenseman on our roster at the new 425 cap. Darnel added 5 hits to his stat line and only 2 PIMs which shows great discipline. He needs to keep this PIM number low this season, as the other defensive defenseman on the roster has shown that he will be spending more than his fair share of minutes in the box.  A great sim from Darnel, and expect the point total to come down next sim, but the overall performance while he is on the ice to continue.

3. Lando Noris @BreDoubleT - So for whatever reason this guy gave up racing in F1 for the SMJHL but we will take it. Lando is a rookie who had two apples in his first sim. I don’t think he will keep up anywhere near ppg pace this season but what a great individual start. He is getting power play minutes right now so his point totals might be higher than one would expect. Lando is also getting some PK time when Michaud is in the box, meaning expect many PK minutes from this guy this year cause Michaud is in the box A LOT.

4. Jake Primeau @rangersbruinslightning - Okay so this one is not shocking, Primeau having the most points on the team in a sim? Who would have guessed. Jake is gonna kill it this season and the first sim shows that. With two goals and three points this guy is gonna have a huge year. Might not lead the team in power play stats since the lines are broken up a bit at the moment, but that first line will lead the way this year for the Armada, as depth scoring might be a huge issue for our team. Also need to see the shots keep falling for Primeau as 11 shots is a lot for this guy especially over only 2 games.

5. Stavros Halkias @Bongo - Stav is the third Armada player to put up three points in this sim with one goal an two helpers. This comes as a bit of a shock as Bishoff is typically in that second on the team in points slot, but the strong powerplay is helping Stav a bunch, with two points on the power play for him. If he wants to keep this pace, he will have to shoot more as two shots will not do. Expect him to come back to earth next sim as he seems to go with how the powerplay goes.

6. Jay Reeves @jays_cloud - Jay gets the nod here over Bishoff, purely due to performance on the power play. With that unit doing so well, I had to give her the nod here with both of her points (goal and an assist) coming on the powerplay. I don’t expect the ppg pace from her this season, but we will roll with it as long as we can. Again we just need more shots from our top guys as 2 shots, both on the powerplay, is not going to allow us to win many games if we cant keep the 44% powerplay rolling at the rate it is right now.

So that is the “starting 6” from the Armadas first sim. Overall team played well as stated prior. Getting good conributuions from our rookie defensemen and looking to get the forwards involved more as well. I don’t expect us to keep up this pace of goal scoring and we should see it come back playing against teams that are taking few penalties and are stronger on the PK. Let me know what you would want to see here if you actually read this so we can improve the articles. I hope you enjoyed it.
