VIP Status babyyyyyyyy - your player has been invited to attend one of the first homestands of the CC finals as a VIP guest - all expenses paid, front row seats, any hotel you want - and it's all on the Commissioner's dime! Are you going to Games 1 and 2 in Tampa or Games 3 and 4 in Calgary? Why are you picking there? And what are you going to do in that city to run up Eggy's tab?? (This is the same prompt as last year but we've got different cities! be creative! Don't re-use what was written last season)

156 words
Fiddler opens his envelope, golden light illuminating his face just like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Eyes wide, he reads the letter over and over, hardly believing that he would be invited to the finals in Tampa. What's even more astonishing is that he is playing in the finals in Carolina the same week. But a true fan would be at both. We're picking Tampa because its warm. And Nice. The bar is pretty low when Calgary is your other options, but we'll make the best of it. An afternoon on the beach, then drinks at a popular bar. Mai-Tais are a must. By now, it's time for puck drop and Fiddler is plastered. He orders ALL the shrimp, ALL the nachos, and showers women in Champagne. It is at this moment, Eggy realized: he fucked up. It was a great time for Fiddler, but the front office will have to rethink next year's sweepstakes.

After a slow start to the regular season, the Dragons have surged of late and have rallied around the #CalgaWe notion of togetherness. On the other side, the Barracuda battled through a difficult East and are led by a very strong young core. Which team are you personally rooting for to take home the Challenge Cup and why?

109 words
It's a tough pick for Fiddler. He has teammates on both teams. Alexi Rykov and Joseph Weston were drafted back to back by Calgary and Fitted was drafted by Tampa Bay. Fiddler is personally rooting for the Dragons. It's two to one, but it's still a tough decision because Fitted is the heart and soul of the Carolina Kraken and will not be denied easily But by a small margin, I have to go for Calgary. Plus, as a Detroit Red Wings fan, I have to root against anything affiliated with Tampa Bay. And the flames are a like-able team I think. So maybe the Dragons will be too.

Alternate Reality: Physicists and other smarties believe that this reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S50 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in this reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In this alternate reality, the Buffalo Stampede have reached the finals against the Calgary Dragons. Also in this reality, the Kraken have already won the 4 star cup and their players have been called up to their respective teams: Tom Fiddler and Hans Schweinsteiger to the Buffalo Stampede and Alexi Rykov and Joseph Weston to the Calgary Dragons. Rykov and Weston are proven scorers, but only Hans commands that one Combs the Chest, and they will. I predict that the series will go to 7 games, with Rykov and Fiddler fighting at least half a dozen times, and Hans with 5 goals and 62 hits. In game one, we saw Weston assist on a few power play goals and in game two he scored one for himself. They were fortunate enough to win both at home. but games three and four were all Fiddler and Hans. Although in different positions, their lines matched up frequently and combined for many goals. In the end, the Stampede reigned supreme.

Due to some controversial calls during the playoffs, the league is looking at updating the current rules(icing, offside, etc) What new rule or change to a room would you implement to better the game?
162 words
I think a new rule that would improve the game would be allowing slap shots. I know it sounds crazy, what with slap shots being incredibly fast and difficult to stop. My opponents will say that it can really hurt to block a slapshot or that it really stings the goalies when they make the stop. Well I say boo-hoo, it is time to embrace this fancy new technique. Tests show that a slap shot is 30-50% faster than a wrist shot and makes it through to the net 40% more often. This also opens up the possibilities for players who are ONLY good at slap shots. Imagine: you can pass to a player and rather than corral the puck to get some mustard on it for the shot, you can just let-er-rip and clap out a fat bomb towards the net. It would be unstoppable, but people would get used to it and invent entirely new ways to play the game.

As competition ramps up for the playoffs, players (both those still in and those eliminated) work extra hard to improve areas of their game that are lacking. What one area of your game do you really needs to focus on improving and how will this benefit the team?

161 words
I think my biggest struggle has been being strong on the puck and positioning. My puck handling isn't super high to begin with, and I've put a lot of work into face offs to help control the game. But really, being stronger and being better with my stick should help me maintain possession when hit or when they attempt to strip the puck. Furthermore, this will also improve my face off game. Secondarily, my positioning isn't the strongest,my defense is a measly 75. A strong positioning game requires at least 80 in the juniors and far more in the SHL. Thankfully, defense is one of my strengths, so in the end I will have a very strong defensive game. These benefit both my teams by allowing me to be a defensively responsible center who can ensure possession of the puck and make great passes to my scorers. In the end, this should give me the amount of assists I deserve.

E. I would hands down take the chicken parm sandwich from Esa. I don't know who Esa is, but I can only assume he or she makes a mean chicky parm and chicky parms are delicious. Task1

Marius will surely be going to Games 1 and 2 in Tampa Bay. There's no chance that he goes to Calgary especially because Calgary are full of stinky people in cowboy hats and Tampa Bay is filled with beautiful people and great weather even at this time of the year. Right now it is snowing in Calgary and although that is very nice hockey weather by no means is it appropriate for Victor Marius and his booshie desire to always be warm. Marius will be drinking only sparkling water and sparkling wines and sparkling desserts because he is worth it and he will be running up the tab just because he can. Marius loves to eat all types of steak especially bone-in ribeye and will likely be purchasing multiples of five every time he goes out for dinner me and lie because he can and he is eating out of being depressed from not being playoffs. although he's a two-time winner he should be a four-time winner and will eat as many steaks as necessary to be a three-time winner eventually.

Task 2
the Team I most hoping to become successful at the culmination of this series will be the Tampa Bay barracudas especially because lagerfield is one of the shining stars of the league and he was once a buffalo stampede draft pick. He only left because he saw opportunities to be the GM but truly his heart will and always be a member of the Buffalo stampede and even though he doesn't wear our colours he has done enough to stay active within our community and show that his first love will always be the stampede. calorie has won many cups in the past and their cheating ways are catching up to them in karma is a b i t c h.

Task 3
I'd like to see the playoffs change so that the Buffalo stampede can automatically make the finals I'm tired of them being the best team and not making the finals because they come across a hot goalie I think that the playoff format should benefit a teams that do well in their build and not just fall lucky and the playoffs. It would be all so cool to see a non-conference based playoff format where the number one and number 8 seed play each other regardless of whether they are in the same conference or not. this will increase the likelihood that teams play unique opponents and increase the rivalries where has currently the same teams are playing each other every playoffs and it's getting kind of boring when we see the same teams in the finals. There are a lot of good players who don't make the finals because there isa team who is a powerhouse and makes the finals every season we're in the new system it would create more chaos and would force the good teams to be good in the regular season rather just get lucky in the finals. this adds pressure to the GM's and players to be good during the regular season and continue to make trade so that the regular season matters.

Task 8:
flacko Lagerfeld is a perennial MVP candidate because he plays on a bad team even though they made the playoffs. He is a checking forward which gives him the darn domination but at the end of the day he is playing on easy mode with the team he's assembled that will just give him the puck for to let him score so giving him an individual award is kind of bogus whereas his goaltender been blue is one of the best goalies in statistical history and making sure that his team is always competitive every season and is deserving of multiple trophies but has yet to receive all the trophies in the world that he has been deserving for.

I do not know what to say. The Commissioner is finally giving me recognition for my good deeds. Being a hero and fighting bad guys is tough. I like to think I am doing a damn good job though. With that said, I asked for tickets to game 4. I do care for either of these teams as they are not my club in California. Having good faith, I will attend and see how some of the big boys play. I cannot wait to start throwing my body around on some of these guys. Any ways, the Commissioner gave me a credit card to use for all my expenses. I bought two kegs of my favorite beer to enjoy at the game. Unfortunately, security would not let me bring them in. I tried to bribe them but ended up being escorted out of the arena and thrown into the nearest alley. Why is it that every time I go to a club event or a league event I am thrown into an alley? Like the fuck?

Are there any changes to the playoff format you'd like to see implemented? More wild cards? Move to a single-elimination to bring about even more chaos? 999-game series to minimize chaos? Be creative!

Oh I got a good one. I want to see a juniors team play a series against the first wild card loser. Tie breaker can be whoever lost in the fewest amount of games. Basically I want to embarrass the lowest playoff contender by forcing them to play a team that is in a developmental league. Plus it is good experience for the young players to really get a test of their skills. While this would be a great thing to do, I think we all know the SHLers will tear the junior players apart. A little bloodshed would be good for the sport. As the savior of the universe, I am constantly being contested by different villains and and evil doers. A sink or swim situation would be fun to watch.. hey what are you doing in my house? What do you mean "Let's go."? Fuck. I am being escorted out of my own house for my idea. Oh look, another alley I am being thrown into. I swear this league just like throwing me on my ass. Maybe they are the evil doers I am looking for? hmm.

Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S50 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in this reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

Wow. This is a strange place. I have seen and been to many different realities. I am the savior of one similar to this one we are currently in. hence while I claim to be the savior of the universe. I peaked into another universe and I could not believe my eyes. There was a version of me that was not a big tough defensive defenseman. I was a high scoring right winger. Of course my name was different. It was Jerry Larry. Strange, a man with two first names. It made me wonder what his middle name was. He was playing on the Winnipeg Jets and was up against the Los Angeles Panthers, which of course is my team in the other reality. Larry was quick and has an excellent shot. So good in cracked the glass behind the net. I wish I had the powerful of a shot, but I am a mere big bodied defensive boy. As I was distracted by the alternate reality, I felt someone tug on my shoulders. Dammit, I am being thrown out of here. Oh look, an alley conveniently next to the lab. Apparently you cannot be trespassing in a scientific laboratory as the savior of the universe.

Which player from Calgary or Tampa Bay would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

There are some good choices for future award winners. Austin Roenick seems to be the best candidate with 43 points in his rookie season. Besides that I see Aleksi O'Koivu-Volkova on Calgary being a really good goaltender in the future. It is too bad I am not playing in the playoffs in the SHL, I believe I would be considered one of the best defensive defenseman out there. I would probably take over a lot of hardware then. Dammit, can I get through one interview or anything without being escorted out? Like damn I am sorry I like to talk about my self.. This alley is new, they must have built it just for me. How nice of them to add to the environment.

A. Each team enters these finals with a red hot superstar - longtime league legend Mike Izzy for Calgary and surprise breakout star Gunnar Soderberg for Tampa Bay. Which of these players will have a more dominant finals?
Mike Izzy is one of these players to ever play the game. He does it all. He shoots, he pass, he attac. For real though, Izzy is a beast of a player and it is no competition to name him the superstar of the playoff series. Watch him tear the Barracuda up. Wow. It finally happen, I said something and no one is around to escort me out. Maybe they are giving up?

B. Kata Vilde and Benjamin Blue are two of the best goaltenders in the league - which team has the advantage in net?
This is a hell of a match up and us fans of the game should be excited for this. Vilde is an excellent goalie who can turn into a brick wall, like seriously, I have seen him do it. Blue on the other hand is a puck sponge. He literally gets all the pucks thrown at him and covers them up for the easy whistle. I could get used to this not being thrown out thing..

C. Do you expect this to be a high-scoring series or a low-scoring series? A mix? Do you think it'll be competitive or will one
team run away with it?
This will be a low scoring all out goalie series. I expect the superstars form each team to get their goals and make great plays but the tendies are way to good to let a ton of goals in.I will say one game will be high scoring but it will mostly come down to the goal scorers to come up with some real creative plays.

D. What's your favorite player NAME on either team? why? (note: not who's your favorite player. which player name)
Rainbow Dash. Dash has hero material written all over them and I can relate to that. Anyone who can be a hero and save the day with magical powers or brute strength is okay in my book. With a name like Rainbow Dash makes it seem like some girly pony or something, but damn is Dash a good name.

E. If you could choose any one of the following four options, which would you pick? 1. A chicken parm sandwich from Esa 2. A
tray of cookies from c00kies 3. A custom feet pic from JSS 4. An hour long stick and puck session with Jepox
A chicken parm sandwich from Esa would be legendary. I am in love with food and anything that gives me nourishment to save the day. I hope it is good as people say, I hear Esa only gives them out to people that do impressive things. Is saving the universe good enough for one? I sure do hope - What the hell man, I made it through a few questions and now you are back to throw me out? Like seriously what the hell? Another new alley? Huh. Maybe the were building this one and that is why I haven't been thrown out in a while.

Karl is going to Calgary and painting the red mile red! He's starting by spending many of Eggy's dollars at Atlas's bar @Rublic, the Pr%f Cocktail Lounge. After that he is meeting up with Esa @Steelhead77 and having some of his world famous parms. From there it is straight to the arena for some tailgating pre game with Adam Barron @charlieconway. During the pregame Karl and Adam were spotted hanging out in the Zambonie entrance, and they got put up on the jumbotron to a spattering of applause.
After the game Karl hit up the red-mile, Adam wanted to hang around and catch up with some of his former teammates. Karl ran into a Taco truck outside the arena and purchased 100 tacos for anyone around him who wanted to grab one to help get this party started!
From there it was hitting up every bar on the street for a drink before moving on to the next one. Occasionally some fans would spot him and take a photo or just cheers a drink, some even just wanted to shoot the shit for a minute or two.

I'm rooting for Calgary to take home the cup (Sorry Kalakar). I have more former teammates playing with Calgary and Tampa Bay is the other team from Florida, so it is in the water to cheer against them. I think Calgary is at their pinnacle now, and Tampa still has room to grow, so I have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot of Tampa Bay in the finals coming up.
Maybe I think that Tampa has a dynasty that they are just beginning, and Calgary might not be back here for a few seasons, so I want them to win and complete the Alberta back to back.

I think a fun change to the playoff format would be to throw in some wild cards, but these would all be single elimination. You could expand the brackets to have some single elimination games for the lower seeded teams because chaos is entertainment! I think keeping the regular series at best of 7 is a good medium of better teams should win, but also short enough that a hot team can take a series.
A fun change I think could be some kind of change to how draft picks are given out. Lottery balls are fun and all, but there could be some kind of tournament for the bad teams, maybe any team who doesn't make the playoffs (current lottery teams) are in a secondary tournament and they playoff for the top draft and the picks are given out based off performance on that stage. This might have a secondary benefit of reducing tanking for picks, not really sure if that is an issue yet though.

Due to some controversial calls during the playoffs, the league is looking at updating the current rules(icing, offside, etc) What new rule or change to a room would you implement to better the game?
I think the best rule change that the league could implement would be to remove the ability for a penalized team to ice the puck. I think this should follow the current icing rules and would come with the added benefit of improving scoring as well. If you think about the situation critically, I'm sure you would come to the same conclusion that it does not make sense to change the rules for one situation, especially if a team does something bad, why would they gain a rule difference to make their kill a little easier? This would make the game more entertaining for fans as powerplays should explode in efficiency especially if a killing team takes an icing and can't change and gets stuck in their own zone.
As an alternate interesting point, I think this would also change up penalty kill dynamics as faceoffs would become more important. Maybe teams start deploying 2 centers on penalty kills, or at least 2 players somewhat trained in the art of faceoffs to win the crucial draw down low after a poorly timed icing where the main center is on the off hand, or exhausted?

Which player from Calgary or Tampa Bay would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?
I can see Benjamin Blue taking home the top goaltender award in some future seasons. I think Tampa Bay is just starting their reign on top of the league and he is early on his regression, so he should be in a starting position for a while. His stats this season have been fantastic, and his play in the playoffs has been phenomenal from what I've seen in the PBP's for the finals.
As a S41 player, Benjamin should just be starting his regression this offseason, so I think that as long as he stays with Tampa that he could have another 5 or 6 seasons of good chances for some additional hardware.

I personally root for Tampa. like mentioned above, they had a really tough division. Still they managed to seperate themselfes from the other teams in their division. They were the second best team during the qualification and battled hard during the playoffs showing why they deserve to be in the finals now. Besides this their spirit is awsome. I was out drinking in a bar when i met some Tampa players. I just realised how tight of a group they are. This was such an inspiration for such a young gun like me. Just shows me why a good atmosphere in the locker room is important. Hope one day we will achive this in toronto !

The most awsome addition would be a drinking game before every game. Then everytime your team takes a penalty or gets a goal you have to pour one to get punished. Would award the team which tries to play the most for the rules. Also would i prefere some hot chicks in really tiny clothes on the ice to motivate the players even more. For their security they would be in a full cage. Maybe would slower down the pace from the game a bit cause everyone is glaring at the girls but would be really fun to watch. We could also put in some males for the womens in the rink.
Another good addition would be a boxing rink in the middle to battle out the fights you have with the opponent. Just getting into a real hot box fight during some intermissions would give the whole game another factor of heat.
Nah to be honest i like it as it is currently but jeah some of these additions would be fun.

Alternate Universum 6942069 is where the Annaheim Outlaws won the four star cup and got qualified for the challange cup as well. Coming into the Challenge Cup as newcomers they surprised everyone with winning against every team in their way to the finals. With their prayers to the big simon and the even bigger outlungus and his master the glibberi gibble they even went on to win the challange cup. As Ivan Maximus shot the series deciding goal an outlungus appeard in the center of the ice and gave every player of Anaheim a gold medal and some magic sticks with which every shot would go into the goal. With this the outlaws will go on and win every cup in the future seasons. if this was not enough the Outlaws decided to contest in the IIHF tournament and to no wonder they won the IIHF tournament as well. As the almighty Outlaws realised no one was a match for them they asked the big Outlungus to get them a good competing team. Which wish he followed and created an awsome team so the Outlaws had to battle a bit for their wins.

Quote:13)
A.
That has to be Gunnar Soderberg from Tampa Bay. Gunnar is a real leader on and off the ice. I watched some games from Tampa this season and everytime Gunnar was on the ice the team was better... He just showed everyone that he is the best leader. He is also an awsome dude off the ice. I hit a bar with him and man he is such a chill and fun dude.

B.
For me Tampa has the advantage in net. Benjamin had a 0.92 save percentage that is really good. To be precise the second best save percentage in the league. Also did Benjamin face 41 shootout attempts. There is no goalie besides him who faced that many shots. And he hold 75% of these shots. Man as a defender to know that you have such a good goalie behind you has to feel awsome.

C.
Personally i hope the series will be strongly dominated by Tampa. Just because i set on them to win it all! But Calgary played really good the whole playoffs so I hope they get a fair chance at winning the cup. And for scoring i think it will be a mix some games the goalies will dominate and some games the players keep on scoring. Around two to four goals a game per team will be normal i think.

D. For me thats Maui from Tampa. First off Maui is a beautiful island in Hawaii. Just look at it on google it just looks awsome. But to be honest the name Maui for me stands for vaiana and i love that movie, mostly because of the soundtrack, and jeah in german the fat dude in the movie is called Maui.

E.
That has to be an hour long stick and puck session with Jepox. I cant eat any products made with farine which kills one and two. I dont really like feet. So the logically awnser is four. And jeah which hockey player does not like stick and puck? I could do it everyday. And jeah it helps me develop and be a better player in the SHL.

(This is the same prompt as last year but we've got different cities! be creative! Don't re-use what was written last season)

No offense to the great city of Calgary but if I am going on an all expenses paid trip it is going to be to Tampa. A warm climate, not far from the beach, plenty of hot chicks wearing bathing suits (I don’t care that it is November, this is my dream and in my dream it is warm enough for them to wear bathing suits year round), what more could I ask for? To run up Eggy’s tab I am going to hit up every club within 50 miles of the city and start raining money on anyone and everyone. Then, once I have sufficiently recovered enough from the revelry, I am going to sell my front row seats and have Eggy pay for me to be the in the luxury box with @CementHands, @Flareon, @Citizen of Adraa and of course, my boy @slothfacekilla. We are going to get straight up lit on 4Lokos and probably cause such a disturbance that we get thrown out of the arena… but hey, what happens in Tampa stays in Tampa.

Honestly, I know that as an Edmonton guy I should loathe Calgary, but I really like Mike Izzy and I don’t want to root against him. But I also actually like some of the Tampa guys so I don’t want to root against them either. How about I just root for the guys that I think are great instead? Mike Izzy is just a class act and Esa Parmborg (@Steelhead77) and Atlas Rush (@Rublic) are two former teammates who I love to death and are some great dudes. For Tampa, two of the reasons I am even in this league are on that team in @Jepox and @Noble and I can’t help but root for those guys. They are absolutely genuine in their passion for hockey (and lacrosse) and I owe them a lot for introducing me to such a great group of people here on the site.

Are there any changes to the playoff format you'd like to see implemented? More wild cards? Move to a single-elimination to bring about even more chaos? 999-game series to minimize chaos? Be creative!

I would love to see several changes, although I will be the first to admit that I have done absolutely zero research on the feasibility of my suggestions, nor have I seen if anyone even agrees with me, so take EVERYTHING I put here with a rather large grain of salt.

First, to absolutely maximize chaos and make it a best of 501 or 999 game series like reference above. I actually think that would be a pretty great and fun idea. Just throw away the PBPs all together and throw away some of the chance that is SimonT with a7-game series and clearly show who is the best. I think my expanding to a 501 or 999 game sim you can decrease the level that chance plays and show who the best team is more clearly (or show how truly close the teams actually are). Just a wild ass thought but I actually like it. The issue with doing that however would be the playoff stats would be all out of whack.

Second, the play-by-plays can be fun, but they also make the playoffs even more brutally long for the teams that have been knocked out. I know it might be asking too much but maybe we can actually have two PBPs per day (day and night) like the schedule suggests and move the Finals along.

As competition ramps up for the playoffs, players (both those still in and those eliminated) work extra hard to improve areas of their game that are lacking. What one area of your game do you really needs to focus on improving and how will this benefit the team?

The area I absolutely need to improve upon is my defense. I am a defenseman for god-sakes and, while I am ok at the position, I am not great. All too often I disappear when the team really needs me in the tough games. At least that is what I think. I do not think I am being too hard on myself by saying that taking stupid penalties, not hitting and being physical enough and not throwing my body on the line blocking shots is NOT the way to go for a defenseman trying to become a stud (lots of negatives but you get the point). I absolutely need to work on my defensive presence and remember that points are great but without defense you can’t win championships (fuck all these double negatives but you still get the picture). If I improve my defense (what out updater for my next update where I unbank a bunch) I think more good things will follow and I will be able to actually help, not hinder, Edmonton back to the Finals.

Which player from Calgary or Tampa Bay would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

I have no doubt in my mind that Atlas Rush @Rublic is a future Hall of Famer in the making. He is a checking god that does not mind doing the dirty work on the boards and stealing extra chances from his gritty style of play. He is an absolutely grinder who just makes things happen and more importantly makes everyone around him better. Atlas leads by example in every facet of his game and is without a doubt going to win some individual hardware in his future. I personally will see to it that he is recognized, if not by the SHL awards committee then by the Center for Hockey Players that Know the Value of Other Hockey Players (CHPKVOHP) with the Best Player that Doesn’t Score All the Points but Plays Super Tough Trophy. He is absolutely a stud on the ice and a greater person off it.

Well, obviously I will already be at all of these games because I am playing in them, but it’s very generous of the commissioner to give me these tickets, so I’m going to fly my mom and dad in from Sweden and let them enjoy these perks instead. They will come to the games in Calgary to support me and my teammates (since I can probably already get them tickets for our home games, and they can stay with me while they’re in Tampa). Knowing my mom, she won’t buy anything too expensive but my dad is a big fan of fine dining and fine alcohol, so he will probably arrange for them to go out for some delicious food and he will probably be ordering top shelf alcohol all the way. Also, if this ticket is actually only one person and not a bring a guest sort of situation, I will cover my mom because she’s going to be way less expensive to host and I am not made of money.

I am rooting for the Dragons because- just kidding, I am obviously rooting for my own team. This has been my dream since I was just a little kid and it would mean so much for us to be able to take home the cup. This team has become such a family to me, and the city of Tampa has become a second home and I would love to be able to win a championship for me, my teammates, and for the fans who have been behind us all the way. Also I made that bet with Ford and it would be cool to win that.

I want a single-elimination wild card game like they have in baseball. People already complain about how long the playoffs are (except for the two teams who go all the way, of course) and I think having a one-game play-in would shorten that time. It is true that SimonT is a fickle little asshole and that game might not be reflecting of the actual talent or skill level of the two teams, but that is going to be true no matter how many games are played, so I think this will just make things easier on everybody. We should also have a losers trophy, and let the bottom four teams in the league battle it out for some kind of booby prize that they are required to put in their signature for the entire following season. Perhaps a bracket of four teams - the losers from the first two rounds meet up in the ultimate loser bowl and the loser of that loser bowl possesses the loser trophy for the next season.

This season has been a really interesting one for me. I think the sophomore season is always a high pressure situation. You’re not a rookie anymore, but you’re still way less experienced than a lot of the guys who are at the top of their game, so you really want to get things right. That’s what I’ve been trying to do, and I think in a lot of ways I’ve brought my game to a much higher level than I have in the past. But I still have a lot of work to do. I need to be more consistent, I tend to go on hot streaks and then get cold for a while, and I think I’d be more useful to the team if I was just a steady producer of points. Getting a lot of points in a blowout game still only helps the team win one game at the end of the day. I’m not sure what stats need focus to improve that, but I’m going to work really hard with the coaches during the off season to see what I can do to elevate that aspect of my game.

Our goalie Ben Blue is just an absolute rock star, and there have been lot of games in the past where he has been the best player on either team. I think he has been snubbed in the past when it comes to regular season awards, but after this playoff run has let him show off his talent on the bigger stage, I think maybe there will be even more opportunities for him to win awards. I think he could win a Honcho, a McBride, and even maybe both MVP trophies because I think he’s the best goalie out there and he’s one of those goalies who can really steal a game when things are close.

Well, this reality starts the same as well. The Dragons beat the Panthers and the North Stars beat the Rage. Round 2 goes as planned with the Dragons sweeping the Pride, the Specters taking care of the Blizzard. The North Stars are stopped by Tampa and the Stampede run into the Steelhawks. But here's the twist: Cain doesn't become dogshit against Calgary and they pull out the series in 6, winning 4 straight after losing the first two games. He posts a .927 against the Dragons, only losing the first two by a goal. The Barracuda take the Steelhawks to 7 before reigning triumphant and match up against NOLA in the Specter's second finals as a franchise. Cain continues his magic and shuts the Barracuda out twice in the first two games before losing game three letting in 3 goals on 58 shots. Game 4 and 5 are victories as well and Cain finally hoists the cup. And then I woke up.

Who's the best player that you have witnessed in the SHL never to make it to the Challenge Cup finals? Or what player that hasn't made it to the finals is most deserving and why? Were they close? Was theirs a story of hearbreak? Is there still hope in the future? (150+ words)

I'd go with Luke Thomason on the Rage. It's gotta be frustrating being the TPE leader in your class and never making it to the finals, stopped short at the conference finals numerous times. He's put up some decent pt totals but never gotten a whiff of the cup, shackled to a young Rage team that looks good on paper but has never quite put it together. He has the makings of a superstar and has been very loyal to the rage but you might wonder if he will go cup chasing at some point, going to greener pastures and maybe helping build a super team. You may say the Rage are as promising as any young team but they have been since s46 and show no signs of actually making a splash in the post season. Even an expansion team made the finals before they ended their drought and it may be time for a shakeup in the lineup.

Which player from Calgary or Tampa Bay would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

I'm going to go with Nickolas Klaus from Tampa Bay. He has played really well in past seasons, exceeding expectations and I think he will be a 30+ goal scorer in the future. He just seems to click on the Barracuda and has the makings of a superstar in this league. He makes an impact on the ice and I can see a scoring title or perhaps a MVP award on the way, especially once the young forward hits his prime in 3 or 4 seasons. He is definitely a player to watch on the Barracuda and for the forseeable future as Tampa has built a contender and looks to win many team and individual awards in the coming seasons.

A. Each team enters these finals with a red hot superstar - longtime league legend Mike Izzy for Calgary and surprise breakout star Gunnar Soderberg for Tampa Bay. Which of these players will have a more dominant finals?

B. Kata Vilde and Benjamin Blue are two of the best goaltenders in the league - which team has the advantage in net?

C. Do you expect this to be a high-scoring series or a low-scoring series? A mix? Do you think it'll be competitive or will one team run away with it?

D. What's your favorite player NAME on either team? why? (note: not who's your favorite player. which player name)

E. If you could choose any one of the following four options, which would you pick? 1. A chicken parm sandwich from Esa 2. A tray of cookies from c00kies 3. A custom feet pic from JSS 4. An hour long stick and puck session with Jepox

-----

A. Mike Izzy has been unstoppable. Arguably at the tail end of his prime, he can still hang with the best of them and pot genos all day and all night. Shooting at a 25% before entering the finals, if he shoots 4 shots in a game, one of them is going in and that's incredible.

B. Kata Vilde is the best goalie in the league, bar none. Countless great seasons for the goaltender and a couple of individual awards as well. He is unstoppable in net and can bail out a team all by himself. Shutting down the league's top offense on route to a sweep, Vilde gives the Dragons a definite edge in net.

C. I think the Dragons have all of the upper hands in this series. Offense with Mike Izzy, McGavin and others, defense with Driftwood, and goaltending with Vilde. It will be a tough battle for the Barracuda and it is up to Blue to keep his team in this. If Blue falters, it will be high scoring. If he doesn't it'll be low scoring. The series rests on his large shoulders.

D. Michael "Augment" Izzicus is by far the most iconic name and face in the SHL. Synonymous with winning, Izzy is the face of the Dragons franchise and a legend on a legendary Calgary team. He has my favorite name and nothing will change my mind. My least favorite name is Flacko Lagerfield on the Barracuda. What kind of name is Flacko. Stupid.

E. I'd go with the hour long stick and puck just because I like practicing and I assume it's free which is awesome too. Free ice is hard to beat and I could sure use an hour of skating and shooting practice, even better if I'm getting pointers from someone more experienced with the sport than I.

What a crew to create havoc within Florida while getting paid to watch hockey and have a good time. Biz is just a kills magnet so hanging around with him with will help your boy get some luck if you know what I mean. The tab would be crazy for this trip, booze, booze and more booze for the boys. I think our crew would be rowdy but again at the same time it would be a great trip and maybe the SHL can get a shout out on the podcast someday.

On the other hand, though, Tampa Bay has had a dominant dominate playoffs and Mike Izzy has been great like always. It’s going to be a great final and may the best team win and take home the cup.

I have a few suggestions to make playoffs better, I’m a second year send down, so I have a few ideas for the SHJML playoffs. First off, my Colorado Raptors just made it to the finals and lost but I think the PBP system has to be changed a little bit. It is a good idea in theory, but I feel like it kind of takes the hype out of playoffs since it takes a while to get going in the finals. I know a lot of people have complained about PBP’s but I personally don’t want to get rid of them but just have some tweaks to it so they go easier. Another fun suggestion for the playoffs could be a mid-season tourney to figure out who gets home ice advantage in the finals. Maybe something like what the MLB does, but then again a lot of people have complained about that way of doing it.

One major part of my game I would like to improve going into next season is my offensive touch. I had a decent season this year playing on the 3rd line on the Raptors but I feel like I should be providing more to the team. Granted, increased ice-time would likely raise my offensive game as I was averaging only about 14 minutes a game this year. This offseason, I hope to iron out the kinks in my offensive game and provide more scoring help for the raptors in my 3rd season. I am hoping to make the jump and have a big breakout year. With that being said, I think I need to improve my passing and scoring to where I can set my teammates up but at the same be a dominant scorer. We lost in the finals this year, and I think if I was providing more help we could have had a decent shot at winning it all, so I think improving my offense will help everybody as it will take the scoring burden off our top guns and that trickles down to the whole lineup.

I feel like it would be a crime if I did not pick Mike Izzy. He has been dominating this league and puts up amazing numbers and I am all aboard the Izzy for the Onoprienko. This past season Izzy put up a hair over a point per game and was winning 50% of all draws; utter dominance and persistence. His dominance is very intriguing to watch, and he has become one of the best players in our league. Dude’s a stud and is going to continue to improve so Izzy is my pick to take home an award.

A. Mike Izzy; as I said before, Izzy is having a dominant season and I see no reason for him to slow down now. I expect Tampa Bay to have their hands full trying to deal with Izzy. With that being said, I also think Gunnar is going to have a massive series too, just not as good as Izzy.
Word count: 59 1 TPE

B.
I think I am going to give the advantage to Kata Vilde who is standing on his head these playoffs. So far before the finals he is 12-1 with a 0.931 SV%. He is on an insane run and I think he is going to continue in the finals with the cup in sight. So, if I was a betting man, I would go with Vilde to have a spectacular series.

As Moore did last season in Boston, he plans on going to a bar tour, and as Moore hates hot and humid weathers, he will be going to the city of the Parm, Calgary. He plans on heading to at least 4 or 5 bars before each game and he's bringing the heat this time, as instead of just having one beer at each place, he will have one beer and one glass of whiskey at every bar. Hoping to be in prime hockey fan mode by the time he gets to the games. He will be staying at the most expensive hotel in town and will not shy away from clearing the minibar each day, as mentioned, it's Eggys money so better go all out. For food he will be trying the best chicken parm places in town to see what the big deal about them is. Along with a few burger joints to see which place can be growned the best Bacon Cheeseburger in Calgary. In addition to what was mentioned above, Moore will try to get VIP access to backstage so he can challenge Mike "Augment" Izzy to a fight as he's tired of Mr Izzy scoring on him and the Chiefs every damn game. Benjamin Blue from Tampa bay is a great choice, he's a great goalie who's in his prime still and has already shown before that he can carry a team when the situation calls for it. I wouldn't be surprised to see him bring home the Mike Honcho trophy or the McBride. Ron Mexico or Sarmad Khan aren't out of the question for him either. A. Mike Izzy is my bet, just because he's too good of a player and despite getting older is still an elite forward. Not only does he have incredible offensive skill but he plays hard, very physical and is excellent on both ends of the ice. He thrives in the playoffs and will be the player to watch.

B. It's a tough one, both goaltenders are some of the SHLs elite, but i have to go with Vilde of the Dragons here. She's been a rock for Calgary and will most likely be a deciding factor in at least one or two of the games. It will be a good goalie battle and goalie fans should pay special attention this series.

C. I think it will be in the middle, with how good both teams are and how excellent both goalies are, i expect a lot of tight games but because there's so much firepower i still expect some goal scoring between these teams. I don't think they'll be 2-1 or 1-0 games but somewhere in the 3-2 or 4-3 final result area.

Also the barracuda have a nice teal colour scheme that would probably look really slick on the site, eh? Its close to Edmonton's blue, so i wouldnt have to completely change my colour palette from the last banner

Heading to the game in Tampa as I already have a lot of experience in this city. I've been to a game here alone when I was a teen (even flew by myself and took a bus downtown) , just so I could experience a live game for cheap and enjoy the sun while I was at it. To be honest I don't really care about the game at all, I just want to enjoy the Florida sun. I'm going to invite all my buddies and just chill on the nearby beaches all day, then go get hammered at the game in the evening. We'll sit front row seats right behind the Dragons bench with our Dragons jerseys on, and cheer as loud as we can. No doubt in my mind that Calgary takes this game, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the back to back to back sweeps for the dragons, or at worse, a reverse sweep for the Dragons Wink . After the game we'll head down to the bars and put as much as we can on EGggys tab, Koraoke will be the main focus of the evening.

Are there any changes to the playoff format you'd like to see implemented? More wild cards? Move to a single-elimination to bring about even more chaos? 999-game series to minimize chaos? Be creative!

I'd like to make the wildcard game a one game elimination game, just like the MLB. I think if you make the wildcard, it's pretty much a coin flip anyways, so why not just make it a one game elimination to make it go as quickly as possible. No one enjoys the wildcard game except the people in it, which is such a small percentage of the league base. Just get this over with as quickly as possible and move onto the real playoffs that more teams are participating in. Don't get me wrong, the idea of the wildcard matchup is still good, just make it go quicker in my opinion. I think this is a deadspot in the league when this time comes around, like I said not many members particiapte in it, so most of the league is just sitting around not doign much, it's even worse for the members that didn't make the playoffs at all.

Who's the best player that you have witnessed in the SHL never to make it to the Challenge Cup finals? Or what player that hasn't made it to the finals is most deserving and why? Were they close? Was theirs a story of hearbreak? Is there still hope in the future? (150+ words)

I'd say Parker Smeb for sure. Although he's still a relatively young player, he's still one of the best in the game. Recently a powerforward moved to defense, he's been absolutely killing it as a dman. Look for him to win the Norris trophy very soon, honestly he's my pick for Norris as soon as next season. Take this guy in fantasy as he picks up hits, shots blocked, points, and everything you need to win your fantasy league. Definitely a sleeper pick in next seasons fantasy later rounds. I'm quite shocked he's never even made the playoffs. Maybe I'll give him a few more years as he plays for an expansion team and has some pretty awful teammates such as Kit Smeb and Daniel Smeb. Get rid of that deadweight and Parker Smeb makes the finals every single season. It's just too hard to carry players like Kit and Daniel to be honest with you. Best of luck to Parker Smeb next year

Which player from Calgary or Tampa Bay would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

I really think Kennedy Jr is on the verge of breaking out into one of the league's best defenseman. His TPE is skyrocketting and no one really talks about him. I expect him to compete for the Norris every season from now on, and he's now approaching 1200 TPE whcih seems to be the sweet spot to become a superstar in the league. He's also played bottom 4 minutes all his career, and I expect him to be on the top pair, top PP, and top PK next season and he's our second highest TPE defenseman. Maybe he'll be sharing ice time with similar TPE Chico Smeb, but he does have that small edge in TPE that should get him higher up in the minutes. we'll see.

After a slow start to the regular season, the Dragons have surged of late and have rallied around the #CalgaWe notion of togetherness. On the other side, the Barracuda battled through a difficult East and are led by a very strong young core. Which team are you personally rooting for to take home the Challenge Cup and why?

Easily the Dragons as I play for them, but honestly the Barracuda are my second fav team in the league. They have a great GM and some great people over there on that roster. I wish them nothing but the best next season, and if we go out early I'll be rooting for them in the finals everyday of the week. Maybe one day I'll even play for this team in my later old man years. If I played for any other team I'd probably still play Calgary as I have a ton of history with them in this league, winning their first championship as GM back in S8

After visiting Edmonton last year for the Finals, this year I'm going to live it up in Tampa Bay. It's a pretty easy decision to be honest, Canada in early November or warm Tampa Bay. Since this is all expenses paid I will be staying in the nicest hotel, while partying with some teammates and old friends while watching my Russian national team teammates Nikolai Evans and Anastasia O'Koivu hopefully get on their way to win the Cup. While I'm there, for atleast one day I would like to make down to the beach and just relax for awhile, and then spend a night at the casino. With all the fun though I'll have to find a gym and a rink to keep myself in game shape as the International tournaments are right around the corner. Finally considering this is the Finals I'll go check out the shows that are going on for the festivities.

As competition ramps up for the playoffs, players (both those still in and those eliminated) work extra hard to improve areas of their game that are lacking. What one area of your game do you really needs to focus on improving and how will this benefit the team?

After exploding for 61 points and a +/- of +22 it's safe to say that I have the offensive game down at this level. Also having over 50 hits and another year of being top 10 in faceoff % it's safe to say that I'm no slouch on defense either, although there is one area of my game that I need to focus on, which is I was top 10 in hits taken, which is unacceptable. Luckily I haven't had a big time injury which means I really need to focus on my skating to make sure it stays that way. Once I get more shifty on the ice it will take my game to a whole new level, my offense will be better and should create more outlets for my team. Looking at all of these top Centers they either have the strength to grind it out along the boards or the skating to make magic out of nothing. The great players can do both and at the end of the day I want to be considered a great player.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

It was an insane series as Calgary pulled off the reverse sweep to beat Tampa 4-3 in game 7, big time congrats to Calgary on the amazing comeback. My Finals MVP is Calgary Captain Mike Izzy who finished the series with 9 points, which included scoring a point in every game! Not only that, he matched a pretty physical Barracuda team with his own physicality, including landing 5 hits in game 7 even his team needed him the most. He is the heart and soul of that Dragons team and easy to see during the whole series. Izzy is one of the best to ever step on the ice and he showed just how much he has left in the tank.

13. Written, up to 5 TPE Pick up to 5 Challenge Cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth 1 TPE. Each answer must be 50+ words to qualify.
A. Each team enters these finals with a red hot superstar - longtime league legend Mike Izzy for Calgary and surprise breakout star Gunnar Soderberg for Tampa Bay. Which of these players will have a more dominant finals?

Both are very good players, but I'm taking experience over youth in this case. Izzy has been in this situation before and knows exactly what it takes to succeed when the lights shine the brightest. Plus he's been on fire this playoff season has he leads the playoffs in points. Give me Izzy to once again show why he's already a legend of the game.

B. Kata Vilde and Benjamin Blue are two of the best goaltenders in the league - which team has the advantage in net?

Give me Benjamin Blue, the guy has been on fire all year and hasn't stopped in the playoffs. Vilde is a very good goalie in his own right but his play isn't at were Blue's has been all season. It wouldn't be too far of a stretch to say that the Barracudas might not be where they are at without Blue's performance this season.

C. Do you expect this to be a high-scoring series or a low-scoring series? A mix? Do you think it'll be competitive or will one team run away with it?

Due to the qualities of the goalies I'll say it will be a rather low scoring series. Both Vilde and Blue have been great this season and there will be no exception in this series. Although I do think there will be one or two games that will end up in a high offense shootout type game, and when that happens it could be anyone's guess on how it will turn out.

D. What's your favorite player NAME on either team? why? (note: not who's your favorite player. which player name)

Shooter McGavin II, and there are two main reasons for this. Reason the number one Shooter McGavin is one of the best sports villains in the history of sports movies, plus the second is always better the the original right? Reason number two why I like this name so much is that the original Shooter McGavin players for the other team.

E. If you could choose any one of the following four options, which would you pick? 1. A chicken parm sandwich from Esa 2. A tray of cookies from c00kies 3. A custom feet pic from JSS 4. An hour long stick and puck session with Jepox

Gotta go with cookies from c00kies, with a name like that I feel like I can trust him to make and deliver some mind blowing cookies. The only question is do I have to share the tray of cookies or can I keep them all to myself? If I have to share my answer might change, although all of a sudden I'm very hungry for cookies.

15. Casual Member Special, 3 TPE max - 1 TPE for participation, 0.5 TPE for each correct answer - SEND ANSWER IN PM TO "PT DIRECTOR" (tagged below)
A. As defined by draft class, who is the oldest player in this series?
B. What is the name of the Calgary Dragons' Arena?
C. Name 3 previous names of the Tampa Bay Barracuda franchise
D. From these two teams, which player had the most PIMs in the S50 regular season? (Look, I'll even give you a link to the index right below this code box. When I posted the link directly, it auto-corrected the colon + slash into a partial frown face; it looks funny and the link still works so i'm leaving it)
