Welcome to the St. Louis Scarecrows’ Season 50 Awards Ceremony!

I’m Danny Marston, your host for this highly delayed ceremony. Due to disaster on Black Friday, there were some adjustments required in the writing that led to the tardiness of this event. Trey Nets was supposed to join me as a host, but due to prior obligations he is unavailable. I’d like to share half of the credit with him (@KillaScrilla if the grading committee would be so kind).

For those that are unfamiliar with the way that we choose to conduct our awards ceremonies, the presentation is usually offered first to the rookie class. It’s a way to get the new ‘Crows learn about the team, to make us look at who came before us and encourage us to interact with our more experienced teammates. It hammers home, for me, what I’ve been fairly confident in since draft night a few weeks ago: the SHL community is, on the whole, excellent, and it’s a privilege to have found a first home here with St. Louis.
In this ceremony, I'll be posting everything all at once. Part of it is due to the time of posting; I know the early afternoon isn't the most convenient for a live event. I've also prepared some player portraits and awards trackers. I'm no professional, it's Paint.NET and a dream over here, but I hope that you all enjoy them.

So, without further delay, let’s get on with the show.

The first award tonight is the Kanye Summers Award, which is given to the Regular Season MVP. Overall, the Scarecrows had a solid Season 50; a final record of 19-23-3, a team total of 452 scored points, and good aggressive play backed by better penalty kill.

This season’s MVP has recently been called up to his SHL team. In Season 50, he set a new total-points record of 63 points in a single season, scoring 6 game-winning goals, 16 Power Play points, and averaging more than 22 minutes per game in ice time. It is an excellent privilege to present the Kanye Summers Award to Barrett Blackwood.

The Michael Haan Award is given to the Most Dedicated Player. The player that is constantly keeping up with league news, is in every point opportunity thread, and is a constant presence in the locker room.

This season’s winner should come as no surprise. We rally around him, as a team, and he always has a kind word and good SHL advice (real life advice results pending). Come on down, Fish, this one’s for you. The Haan Award goes to Aron Hernadivic.

The Marian Potoczny Award is given to the Best Two Way Forward. This play style is distinguished from other forwards in their focus on both the offensive and defensive sides of the game; the full two-hundred feet of ice. Any forward should be able to score goals, but it takes a lot of skill to block them just as easily. This is also one of two awards that makes me glad that I don’t have to read these aloud; I have no idea how to pronounce that.

Our best two way forward in Season 50 exemplifies the value of playing that all-ice game. He has a way of making plays work without the flash or notoriety of other players, and we have no idea where we’d be without him. This award goes to Jakub Bruchevski.

The Ondrej Rachitikov Award is given to the Best Defenseman. In the constant battle between goalies and forwards, some might place less emphasis on defensemen. It is important to recall, however, that plays begin for a team quite frequently on defense. The back lines are the buffer between the goalie and the forwards, and stealing pucks to turn the tides of a game is critical to setting up plays for their own team.

This season’s best defenseman posts big hits, critical goals, and, occasionally, saves the universe. FLASH! AHH! Winner of the Rachitikov! Our best defenseman is Flash Gordon.

We're at the halfway point for our awards this afternoon, with the Bradley Wingels Award, which is given top the Best Overall Forward.

This is a repeat winner, the first of a few tonight, and it's also kind of an obvious choice. The S50 Wingels Award goes to Barrett Blackwood.

The Jermaine Tennyson Award is given to the Team’s Best Goaltender. Goalies consistently make or break games and have completely different stats from the other players on a team. Some keepers may feel like their crease is an island, battered by storms of pucks and invaded by players screening shots at the net. It’s not an easy job, and good goalies can feel taken for granted. To summarize my tangent, Thank You, Goalies.

This year’s Tennyson winner quickly took on the bulk of the work between the posts despite being a rookie. She played nearly 2000 minutes through the season, saved over 900 goals, and had a respectable overall save percentage of 0.877. The Tennyson Award goes to Elizabeth Doyle.

The Luke Riggs Award is given to the biggest chatterbox in the locker room the Most Active Player in the Locker Room. It might also be called the Miss Congeniality Award.

This year’s winner always has a kind word and sage advice. With him around, everything gets on swimmingly. If I had to rate him on a scale from one to ten, I’d say he’s an eleven, but only because he’s up to his gills in all of the best things about the SHL. Aron “Fish” Hernadivic has caught himself this season’s Luke Riggs Award.

The Jarkko Kallestrom Award is given to the Most Valuable Player in the Playoffs and is the only award dedicated to post-season performance. In the S50 playoffs, St. Louis first won a hard-fought series against the Kelowna Knights in six games. In the second round, the team narrowly lost to the Colorado Raptors, taking the series to seven games with the deciding goal scored in the third period.

This season’s winner is no joke, placing third in total points scored, third in points per period average, and second in face offs won. It is a great delight to present the Kallestrom Award for Playoff MVP to Jakub Bruchevski.

The Vladmir Bodnar Award is given to the Season’s Best Rookie. Many of the SHL’s greatest players count this award as one of their first. In Season 50, contention for this award was tight as the draft class took in four solid members of the team.

For locker room presence, scoring prowess, and superior Soviet design, this season’s winner of the Bodnar Award for Best Rookie is Ruslan Zaporozhets.

Our final award of the night is possibly the highest honor that our team can bestow. The Tigole Dizzy Augustus Award for Excellence is given to the player or organization member who contributes to the team most extraordinarily. Previous winners include one of our current GMs, IIHF gold medalists, league-wide award winners, and top class TPE earners. No Hall of Famers yet, but the award was only established in Season 37, so it's a bit early yet.

Given other elements of his performance that have already been mentioned today, as well as his contributions to the locker room culture and development of our team, it is an honor to give Barrett Blackwood the S50 Tigole Dizzy Augustus Award for Excellence.
