Turku, FI - The weather is brisk this winter day as we sit down to chat with up and coming goaltender Jason Voorhees. Before we get to the questions, we will chat a little bit about this young man.  Jason was born on a cold January morning in 2003 in the Finnish city of Turku.  Turku is a moderate sized city on the southwest coast of Finland, which boasts a population of nearly 200,000 and plenty of hockey talent is home grown here.  Straddling the Aura River, where Jason grew up playing hockey with his friends in the frozen winter months, Turku has produced such talented hockey players such as Rasmus Ristolainen, Mikko and Saku Koivu and Kaapo Kaako.

Jason started playing skating and playing hockey when he was five years old, instantly drawn to playing goaltender and the task of keeping the puck out of the net.  Immediately he showed great ability and was usually first picked among his peers when they were choosing teams to play a quick game of shinny on the frozen river.  Jason began playing goaltender with an old style goalie mask, the likes of which you would have seen on legends Bernie Parent and John Davidson. When giving the opportunity to change to a newer style mask or cage, Jason chose to stick with the old style mask. Stating there were two reasons for this.  One was that he seemed to play a little off while attempting to wear the newer style helmets and stats they just didn't feel right.  The second reason being that Jason became a horror movie fan at a young age and among his favorite movies was Friday the 13th.  The main character of that film being a hockey mask wielding maniac which shared the same name as this talented young goaltender.

We caught up with the talented young net minder Jason Voorhees and were able to ask him a couple questions.

Q:  First I have to ask.  So Jason Voorhees is your favorite horror movie slasher, Why?

A: Well the hockey mask! *laughs* I mean, plus he is super powerful and intimidating, I like to think when I am in net I am just as intimidating. My father used to watch the scary movies after I went to bed.  What he didn't know tho, was that I would often sneak down from my room and sit on the stairs, watching those movies.  I've seen them all.  Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, I just find them kinda funny, but by far the franchise I fell in love with was Friday the 13th.

Q: So Jason, are you excited for your future as a professional goaltender?  What major league team do you have your sights set on?

A:  Oh yeah, for sure.  I mean I've been playing hockey all my life...it is my life!  I hope to one day make it to the SHL and play for my favorite team, the New Orleans Specters.  I would love to one day take over the starting job from Aleister Cain.  I really can't imagine playing on such a large stage in front of so many fans.  It definitely has me excited.

Q:  Ah the Specters.  They are a great organization and Aleister is a great goalie, however; to get to the SHL you need to make your way up through the SMJHL, any thoughts there?

A:  I am actually quite excited to start my professional career in the SMJHL.  I grew up following the Carolina Kraken and my dream is to get drafted by them and start my career playing there!  Also, have you seen their logo?  It's pretty sick.

Q:  The Carolina Kraken eh?  Do you have a favorite player?

A:  Happy Gilmore and Heikki Jaakola are great players and so fun to watch.  I would love to be share the ice and the locker room with those guys.

Q:  Lastly, I heard that the league is allowing you to wear the hockey mask you have become accustomed to, how does that make you feel?

A:  I was so happy when I was told I would be aloud to wear my distinctive choice in helmet.  It's funny but when I was younger I remember I would do everything in that mask.  I would wear it everywhere, even falling asleep sometimes while wearing it.  It is part of me and I hope to represent the greats that have come before me in wearing the mask that started it all.

Well those were some quick questions that we threw at Jason Voorhees.  A young bright goaltending prospect from Turka, Finland.  Jason will be a part of the S53 season draft class.  He is hoping to be selected high and he feels like he has a lot to prove at the next level of hockey.  He has a promising future and I know I cannot wait to see what team he starts his professional career playing for.
