News anchor: “Hello and welcome to the Halifax Scout, the number 1 news provider for the region of Nova Scotia. Today the headlines of the news has been the massive protest in the city of Halifax, where many fans of the SMJHL competitor Halifax Raiders filled the streets surrounding the stadium Raiders use as their home rink in a fit of rage about their loss to St. Louis Scarecrows in game 3 of the SMJHL Playoff second round. We sent our reporter, Mike Holly, to investigate further.“

MH: “The protests have started in the evening of the game already, but their biggest force showed itself only in the morning of the following day, with many supporters of the local ice hockey team showing their discontent with the current state of affairs in the Halifax Raiders front office.“

Fan: “Personally I am sick of this organization. After long years of not winning a title and frankly being absolutely horrible, new management steps in, this goddamn British guy and his Slovak slave, and promise us the new beggining and a cup within 5 years. And what happens? Yeah sure they now can end 3rd in the regular season, but then they get to the playoffs and their entire roster just folds like a house of cards! I had enough of incompetent idiots in the front office and we want a change that really makes the difference!“

MH: “But the series isn’t even over yet? St. Louis only leads 2-1, the Raiders have plenty time to respond, regroup and fight their way through.“

Fan: “We all know those words, ‘They can win, they can fight.‘ Well, I haven’t seen much figthing did I? Last year, a rebuild. Year before, 3rd in regular season, and lost to the Militia. Year before, they barely scraped by into the 3rd round. When does the entire thing end?“

MH: “Halifax is long known in the SMJHL fandom as the worst team in the league, with jokes long running about the incompetence of the franchise. Hopes rose after the new leadership took over in the team and managed to create some promising results, but Halifax fans desire more. They desire to finally get to the finals, to get the 4 star cup and to finally stop being the butt end to all of the jokes. However, while Halifax managed to create a basic level of success, their runs have been shallow at best. We asked coach Balls and the Halifax co-GM Kubovcik for a comment, and while unfortunately coach Balls didn’t have the time for us, co-GM Kubovcik had this to say.“

co-GM: “We are obviously as frustrated as they are, I am surprised that’s not clear to the fans of the team. We both really want this team to succeed, and while we both believe that this roster has what it takes to go all the way, we are not the only team existing within the league and we have to count in the rest of the SMJHL. So we are doing all we can to ensure we can fight with the top teams, and all we ask the fans is to gather the last bits of their patience and trust us. We haven’t been here for all the time Halifax suffered their poor form, I think that personally we do have a pretty decent record actually, but we are not miracle makers and we need time to make this work.“

MH: “Will the fans of the Halifax Raiders want to have patience though? There are rumours of a relocation floating among the fans on the street, with some remarking that they would be glad to get rid of the team and their owners, however these haven’t been commented by Kubovcik at all. So now its all about the team and our hopes that the guys in black and gold can squeak the victory out of the jaws of defeat, and out of the grasp of the Crows. For Halifax Scout, Mike Holly.“
