Today, the Canadian IIHF Federation has unveiled their latest transfer, their first player brought in from elsewhere since Connor Tanner in S49, and first transfer made since GM Moe S. Knuckle took charge.
The player in question is none other than Los Angeles Panthers netminder Nolan McMahon, who joins in a transfer from Switzerland via a Commissioner-approved Active Backup Transfer.
McMahon, currently in his rookie season in the SHL playing backup to Ex-Canadian Knox Booth on a West-leading LAP, enjoyed a very strong juniors career with both the Lethbridge Lions, and Carolina Kraken franchises.
S48 (Rookie Season)
Having been drafted in the depths of the S48 draft, at 37th, Lethbridge trusted McMahon as the backup, and potential eventual heir, to franchise goalie Harry Carpet. He had a solid 4-2 record in his 6 backup starts, along with a respectable .893 save % and 3.05 goals against average.
S49
McMahon's draft stock rose immensely from his SMJHL class, having been selected 18th overall by Los Angeles, and Lethbridge were prepared to give him the reins as starter for the team. However, McMahon saw his form take a dip, and midway through the season he lost his starter job to a hot rookie in Markus Tegernako. He finished the season 12-13-2, with a .876 save % and a 3.4 GAA.
S50
After his rocky S49, McMahon was
traded by Lethbridge to newly-relocated Carolina, formerly the Montreal Militia, to get a fresh start on a team where he would once again be an out-and-out starter. Having commanded a second and third pick, McMahon still had high expectations from Carolina despite his shaky S49, and it paid off. His numbers in the regular season were decent, as he went 25-10-3 with a .882 save % and 3.1 GAA, but in the playoffs he really caught fire. Going 12-4-2 en route to Carolina's cup win, his .909 save % and 2.33 GAA on the run earned him a nomination for the Brodie Witzel Award for playoff MVP. All in all, S50 was a huge bounceback for young McMahon's confidence.
S51
Playing his last season in juniors, McMahon made sure his playoff heroics in S50 weren't a flash in the pan, as his performances in S51 were far superior to his S50 regular season. With Carolina stomping the SMJHL, McMahon had a whopping 30-9-3 record for the Kraken, posting a .899 save % and 2.59 GAA. These numbers put him on basically level terms with Ian Venables of Anchorage (and also Canada
), who just about edged him out for the Tom Corcoran trophy handed to the best goalie. Unfortunately, despite the stellar season, the dominant Carolina would fall to underdogs Vancouver in the second round despite McMahon continuing his solid performances, to mark a disappointing end to his juniors campaign.
Despite the bitter end to his four-year career down in the minors, McMahon can look back very positively on his accomplishments in juniors as he walks into the starlight of the SHL, having 3 major accolades to take home.

S52
McMahon has carried his positive play with Carolina into the SHL decently thus far, sporting a 3-2-2 record with a .897 save % and 3.24 GAA with the Panthers thus far, as him and Booth aim to create a brick wall tandem between the pipes out West.

McMahon will be immediately joining Canada's squad as the starting goalie for the S52 IIHF Tournament, as Canada once again aims for medals with their young and very talented core of players hungry for silverware.
