You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

This is a hard one to pin down before we have all of the free agent moves and new builds down, but I think if I had to take the challenge cup odds right now for next season, I would give the highest odds to the Edmonton Blizzard.

As you know, the Blizzard made the cup finals last season, though they were easily dispatched in 5 games. This season they still made the playoffs, but were cut short very quickly in the first round. Thats sad and all, but one thing I notice when I look at the Blizzard roster is that they are filled with young talent, and very impressive young talent at that. Currently they have 3 prospects over the SMJHL TPE limit, which is no small feat. Many of their key contributors are from the S48 and S49 drafts, and will only continue to improve. 6 players from those draft classes from those teams are already over 800 TPE, with one already reaking the 1K mark. If they can keep these guys updating, I think they will go very far next season

By now, you're probably familiar with the attributes on FHM, and you likely have some sense of what type of build you're going to be aiming for with your player. What one attribute are you going to focus on most? Of all the attributes in the game, what is your player going to strive to be the absolute best at? Why are you picking that specific attribute above all others?

I think its no surprise which attribute I am going to strive to be the absolute best at. That attribute is fighting! LPLL is one bad mofo, and I'm going to make sure this whole league knows it! I want to end up having a maxed out fighting attribute when everything is all said and done. Other things I need to work on is checking and hitting. Obviously part of being a brute is making legal plays on the ice, and so I need to work on those two attributes to be the best I can be and make opponents think twice when I'm on the ice

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Due to a lot of changes coming to the SHL and SMJHL this season, Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette has decided he needs to train a lot this offseason to prepare for them. Defense has become a lot more complex, and if he wants to stay a defensive defenseman with a mean streak, he is going to have to update his game.

One of the main things LPLL is working on is his positioning. Physicality can only get you so far in the league, you have to know where you need to be on both offense and defense, and he is trying to fix that. Another big thing LPLL is updating is his tenacity. Obviously as an enforcer he takes a lot of penalties, but he is hoping to work on drawing some as well

1. Head GMs JayWhy and Grapehead have been GMing for a while, whereas Co GMs Luketd and DaftRaincloud are newer to management - which team's front office staff (including coaches) do you think will provide a strategic edge (lol as if such a thing exists in STHS) in this series?
2. Manhattan has been rocking a pretty evenly-distributed ice time for forwards (35-33-32) whereas San Francisco is going a bit more top-heavy (40-40-15). Which approach do you think is better for a fierce Challenge Cup series?
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)

1. I dont think much would help get a strategic edge in STHS as this post is implying, but i think the more experienced GMs will give the edge here. It is easy to overthink things as a GM sometimes, and you can overcomplicate things. both teams will likely have the same knowledge, but less experience might panic more and make bad changes, while more experience will just accept that STHS is a cruel mistress haha
2. I think Manhattan has a better game plan with their ice time distribution, but that is not because of the strats in my opinion. An even distribution of ice time likely means you have an even distribution of talent. So your top 2 lines will be fine against the 2 elite top lines of the other team, but when the weaker 3rd line comes about, your 3rd line will eat them up.
4. First of all, I would like to say that Manhattan as a whole just have much better player names. But onto which player is my favorite, the name Backdoor Barnacle stands out to me. I dont know what it is, whether it makes me remember Barnacle Boy from Spongebob, whether it feels like a gross name for some sexual anal stuff, or that its probably the name of some weird animated spongebob pornhub parody, it just is a cut above the rest

This might be a very controversial take, but I am going to be taking the position that a player who never even saw the ice for the Challenge Cup should win playoff MVP. Alexander Selich is without a doubt the reason the Buffalo Stampede got as far as they did. 25 points in 15 games is insane. Only one Manhattan player got to 20 points, Luke Thomason with 22, and he had 4 extra games to make that happen. Selich was a beast, and if Buffalo had made the cup finals he would be the unquestioned MVP, win or lose. Unfortunately, he was not able to get enough help from his teammates, With there being an 8 point difference between him and his closest teammate

The Los Angeles Panthers were eliminated in the playoffs, but in this other reality, the true reality, the Los Angeles Panthers managed to win the cup. It was one of the longest Challenge Cup playoffs ever as each series went to game 7. These games had several overtimes as well, making this season’s Challenge Cup Playoffs the most hockey in terms of minutes played. The Eastern Conference final game 7 ended in the 4th overtime period. That’s over two games worth of hockey and the fans ate up all their free hockey. First thing first, let’s walk us through the most valuable player in this reality’s playoffs. Elijah Jones managed to put 33 pucks into the net during the first series. He captured sports media around the world. In the next round, Elijah Jones amped it up, but this time, in addition to scoring 33 goals, he notched 33 assists for 66 points in 7 games. The Panthers were playing like magic and it elevated Jones to a new level.

Task 4 3 tpe
Elijah Jones is going to be training hard with a new personal trainer. While working with Team Switzerland, Jones met up with one of the great unknown hockey trainers of the world, Josi Tyuumo. Tyuumo has the ability to make stars and is reached out to Jones to see if his services were desired. Elijah Jones jumped at the offer to work with Tyuumo. The two are going to try and make Jones play style a little more hard hitting. We may see some of this new play in the IIHF this season, or it might come later. Either way, Jones is looking to spend considerable amount of time in Switzerland. He loves Los Angeles, but being there for so much time during the season, it’s a nice break away from the craziness of the city. Jones is looking forward to celebrating a good IIHF performance, too. Him and rest of Team Switzerland want to make a good push in this tournament again.

Task 14 5 tpe
1. Grapehead is an S31 product and DaftRaincloud is a boat boy so they easily get the edge here. The Pride have the lead as far are strategy goes, their management is wicked smart. Sometimes, there are just these intangibles that individuals bring to the table and they completely change the dynamic of the matchup and that’s what we are seeing here between these squads.
2. The top two lines making up 80% of the ice time is a strategy you use when the depth players aren’t quite so deep. Giving those depth guys more ice time isn’t the answer either. It’s a situation that requires the coaching staff to make a call on. After getting through all the other rounds of the playoffs, players are beat up.
3. The Pride have a good color scheme with their mascot looking pretty good. The Rage’s bull gives me some Dwayne Johnson vibes, so that’s certainly a plus there. It is certainly a close one between these two teams, with neither logo being bad, but I think the Pride gets the nod in the logo battle.
4. There are some names I like on San Franisco. I like sort of simple names, because I think it’s somewhat unrealistic to have too many extravagant names. So, names like Bo Kane, Jack tanner, and Ray Bork are some of my favorites in this series. For Manhattan, it would be either Alex Winters or William Goose (might not even be on the team anymore lol).
5. I’d rather a meet and greet with Gritty and Luke as long as Gritty doesn’t try anything and throws hands. I’d hate to get into a handicapped fight with Gritty and Luke, but knowing Gritty, you have to be prepared for that kind of life. Maybe Gritty is a really calm guy once the cameras aren’t rolling and he’s forced to act that way.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

Barring any major changes to their lineup this offseason, I think the Texas Renegades are likely to have the hardest time challenging for the Challenge Cup, let alone a playoff spot for that matter. The Renegades are lacking a true SHL-caliber goaltender at the moment but only due to the youth of Patrick Niederreiter - he's earmarked to be their goalie of the future but requires more seasoning before he can be fully trusted in a league of elite scorers. Their defense corps is average compared to the rest of the league and their forward group leans heavily on Andreas Kvalheim to pick up the slack of a relatively young group. Jake Primeau impressed this season as a rookie but also played alongside Kvalheim for most of the year. Can he continue his success in his sophomore season? If so, and barring the FHM respecs, the Renegades could sneak in but I wouldn't count on it.

I think the San Francisco Pride is built to be the top contender next season but teams like Los Angeles, New England, and the Cup winner this season, Manhatten, will make it very difficult for them. I believe depth will be what separates the true contenders from the rest of the pack which makes LA and NEW much better off based on the rosters at the end of the regular season. The ability to run 3-4 strong centermen will be much more important in FHM in my opinion where I suspect we'll see much less randomness than we saw in STHS.

Defense was the stat everyone cared about in STHS but now we have 4 different attributes to worry about that affecting player positioning and decision making, which is what Defense is understood to have done in STHS. Getting Open and Offensive Read will be major attributes that I expect to be pumped by the elite scorers right away whereas Defensive Read and Positioning may be left behind by some due to TPE constraints. Pure defensive players are now possible to be made in FHM which opens a lot of possibilities when it comes to line matching. Due to the human element of our league though, many likely favor offense over defense and will spec accordingly in the new system. Defensive forwards may very well become hot commodities before too long.

Since Indigo Trevino isn't expected to make the trip to Florida to join the West Kendall Platoon for another year, he'll likely spend the summer in Columbus with friends and family while the Halifax Raiders shift operations to Portland, Maine, and rebrand as the 'Timber'. Trevino became a fan favorite in Halifax last season and was as surprised about the relocation news as the rest of the Halifax fanbase. He'll likely spend some time in Halifax with fans before packing up for good and moving south with the rest of the club later this summer.

Due to the "FHM rule changes", Trevino will have to make some decisions on his playstyle before games pick back up in the fall when he'll don the green and brown instead of the Raiders' gold. Rumor has it that he's weighing his options following next season when he's expected to get the call to the SHL - does he continue to focus on his scoring prowess or does he perhaps take a more conservative approach to ultimately have a bigger impact once he makes the big club in S54? The decision will have to be made soon and it will likely impact how many trees fall in Portland once the Timber takes the ice for the first time next fall.

The SHL is taking a stand and trying to do its part in reducing its carbon footprint. One of the proposed ideas is to eliminate back and forth air travel during the Challenge Cup and Four Star Cup finals and instead hold all 4-7 games in one neutral, rotating location a la the Super Bowl. Are you FOR or AGAINST this idea? Why?

Shifting to a static location for the playoff finals would certainly create some interesting scenarios down the line, similar to a team hosting the draft and having a high draft pick. It could certainly affect decision making by the host team's front office, making them perhaps take more gambles in the hopes of playing the finals in their home city for 4+ games instead of just 2-4 games. Such an event could pay massive economic dividends for the host city as well if negotiated correctly, unlike the Olympics where the IOC leeches the money out of the host city. If the SHL does it right, it could easily be a better version of the Super Bowl.

b) The mayhem that Gritty and Luke would get up to would be a once in a lifetime chance to witness since authorities would likely force the two to not be within 500 yards of one another following the chaos. Gritty in the Big Apple during the Rage's Challenge Cup celebration would be the source of tall tales for years to come, not unlike Alex Ovechkin's Cup celebration from two years ago.

Luke Thomason had a phenomenal playoff for the Manhatten Rage. He led all players with 9 goals (tied with Viktor Marius, BUF), 13 assists and finished 2nd in total points among all players (only Alex Selich and his 21 assists (25 points) scored more). I would expect most to give Luke the MVP but I think there are better options when we're looking at just the Challenge Cup Finals. Luke did have 4 points in 6 games as well as scored the insurance marker to give the Rage the Challenge Cup. But 4 other players scored more points in those 6 games which I think gives them more of a claim at Series MVP.

Had the Pride won the cup, Jeff Brogan would have been the clear Series MVP with his 6 assists and 7 points in 6 games. Barret McCarthy (6 assists; 0-6-6) and David Vent (5 assists; 0-5-5) were two of the Rage's top scorers as well and could have been considered. Rainbow Dash, however, had a series-leading 3 goals and assisted in Alex Winters' series-winning goal and is the clear series MVP besides Alex Winters for that goal alone.

Right now, Dom Montgomery is not thinking about the off-season. He is in full hockey mode and will be up until he's done all he can do to secure Team Great Britain a shiny medal. However, Dom always looks forward to traveling with Leo Lockhart, the Fourth of July at his moms' house with some of his closest friends, and spending as much time as he possibly can on his boats - the one in Michigan and the one in California. He's gotten better at woodworking at this point too, so he's trying to put in some extra shelves in his boats and maybe make some wooden gifts for friends. So, all in all, he'll be doing quite a bit of sailing, working with wood, eating BBQ, getting drunk at least a couple times, and then trying to keep up with his training at least a bit. Also there are probably some house projects in San Francisco he has to keep up with.

I am for this idea, because reducing our carbon footprint is a must. I did an article about this last year about reducing the carbon footprint of the SMJHL regular season schedule (which I think needs more work than the playoffs, but that's not the question here). You can't have hockey if you don't have a habitable Earth. You can't have the joys of skating ponds outside if your land is on fire or you freeze to death going outside. We have to think about the hockey players and fans of tomorrow. I understand that it would suck for fans of a Challenge Cup team to not be able to fly out and see their team in the finals, but let's be real, those tickets at home or too expensive for them to pay for anyway.

With marijuana being legal in California, the San Francisco Pride have finally made it possible for fans of age to purchase Pride Final Ride weed purple and yellow lion-shaped gummies. For $20, get these gummies to eat upon arrival at the games in San Francisco and they should kick in just before the second period so you can enjoy the game still even if the Pride are losing or really enjoy the game if the Pride are winning. Sure, you could get something cheaper outside of the stadium to sneak in, but you were going to spend $30 on beer anyway. Might as well do this instead, and also, two dollars of every gummy sold will go to helping public schools or something that will make you justify the cost of these gummies. Whether or not the Pride win, these gummies will make it feel like quite the final ride of the season.

I must preface this with saying I don't spend a lot of time thinking about SHL management and I'm not sure how much time any of them, especially those in the Manhattan Rage front office, spend doing things that would be beneficial to their teams. But uh, because I'm biased, Pride front office all the way. Strategic edges are Real and Simon T is Not a god.

You know, from what I remember in paying attention to sims in Challenge Cup series (so not a lot), teams who play the same couple people for a long time usually end up winning things. It is not a 100% method, and it also depends on the builds and power of your players, but to answer the question, San Francisco all the way.

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
San Francisco's, hands down. The royal purple color symbolizes being more awesome than anyone and the lion is sassy. Plus, the Pride have a great secondary logo that has a secret lion purple lion inside. The Rage's logo has good shading and everything, but who wants to have a bull on their chest? Not I. Where is the wooly hair? Why does he kind of have human eyes that are demonic? It is intimidating, but idk I like purple and gold together more than red and black. Guess I'm not as goth as I thought.
WC: 95

4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
Leopold "Leo" Lockhart is my favorite player name of anyone on the two teams. I am not just saying this because my son Dom is the most biased person in the entire universe, but because Leopold is a cute name, Leo is also cute and is already a lion, like, HELLO, Leo the Lion. Makes great sense, right? Cute. Lockhart? Great last name. He has a lock on his heart. Tragique. Also, that double L. 10/10 name.

As tempting as all of these would be for various reasons, I think I'd have to go with having Daft show me everything in his internet history. Because no one's ever shown me that, and I think it would be really funny and/or enlightening. Daft is cool and this could either destroy or strengthen our friendship.

Before you is a door. To unlock this door you need imagination. Beyond this door is a realm of sound, a realm of sight, a realm of hockey. You have just entered the Twilight Hockey Zone. Here in the Twilight Hockey Zone anything is possible, and in this case the Texas Renegades faced off against the San Francisco Pride in the Finals of the Challenge Cup. Victory for the Renegades was hard fought, but pretty much a forgone conclusion. This well earned victory was brought about by one simple act that no one saw coming, the call up of Stan Hanson. The young powerhouse mercilessly kept the ice cleared to allow his team mates to score with relative ease, allowing the Renegades to swiftly move up the standings to clench the Cup. There was just no way possible for anyone to anticipate the fire and intensity Hanson would bring to the ice. Called up simply to fill a spot on the bench, fate sure had a way push Hanson to the forefront of the Renegades line.

For those of you that have followed the burgeoning career of Stan Hanson, the answer to this question should be no surprise. Hitting. Hitting is going to be the primary focus for this Punishing Enforcer. Hanson intends to showcase his dominance on the ice by racking up the most hits possible. Already finishing in the top 3 for Hits in his first 3 seasons of play, Hanson is hungry to break loose and claim the top spot in the league. Hanson is no longer one to be denied. With the changes coming to S53, Hanson is prepared to show his grit and determination to be the best, most dominant forward on the ice.

The offseason is a time of odd mixes for Stan Hanson. As is only natural, Stan has plans for a trip home to see his family. Not only will this be a time of familial joy and bonding, but a time of training as well.  Hanson comes from a storied Hockey family, and while he is home, he will be putting the polishing touches on the vaunted Hanson family style of Hockey that he has become known for. But of course it not all work at the Hanson family home, there will plenty of time for slot cars races and other fun activities with family. This will also be a time that Stan utilizes to work on perfecting his doughnut making, as he dreams of a Doughnut Empire after his retirement from Hockey. Offseason it may be, but sometimes it makes the regular season seem like the vacation time. You can definitely say the Stan works just as hard on the ice as he does off of it.

I don't see a world where the Manhattan Rage don't make the finals. The team's roster was super deep going into these playoffs and they had an MVP goaltender between the pipes. The team was just too good to not reach the finals, even making it past a Chicago team that had a 3-1 lead over the Rage. In the West however, the New Orleans Specters had the best chance to make the Challenge Cup Finals beyond the San Francisco Pride and there's a world where they make it to face the Rage in a knock down, drag out fight that lasts 7 games and has one of the smallest number of goals in Finals history, with two amazing goaltenders between Larson and Cain. Most games are simple one goal differences but in the end, the Rage's depth would overtake the top heavy New Orleans squad and they would win the cup as they did here.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

Seeing as I was the Casino master for several seasons, a crown I've now passed on to the amazing @Grum, I think the swap to FHM will make some teams perform differently than others. However, the top cup odds would likely be pretty static going into the next season. One team that has underperformed lately that would probably hit the top 4 would be the New England Wolfpack. They have a strong roster and the swap should benefit them greatly. Beyond that, the Rage, Specters, and Syndicate would round out the top 4 teams in my eyes. The Rage, also the defending champs, would likely have the strongest contention due to depth and goalie ability, with the Specters a close second, and the Syndicate have a strong roster as well that should perform admirably going into the FHM6 engine change. Another close team could be both the Stampede and the Panthers.

B. Name TWO players who have played for both the Pride and the Rage.
C. Among ACTIVE PLAYERS, who has the most points scored in Pride franchise history?
D. Who was recently selected as the #1 player in Rage franchise history as part of their Top 50 in 50 series unveiled this season?

Ok I did

3. The Rage and the Pride have, in my opinion at least, two of the best logos in the entire SHL. Which team's logo do you like more and why?
4. What is your favorite player name on either of these two teams and why? (not favorite player/user, just focusing on their player name)
5. Would you rather: (a) a chainsaw lesson with JayWhy, (b) a private Gritty meet-and-greet for you and Luke, © an all-you-can-eat grape buffet experience with Grapehead, or (d) an hour session where DaftRaincloud shows you everything from his internet history?

1. Seeing as luke has won a cup in Vancouver as a GM, as well as a player, and has done an excellent job in his first few seasons as the Rage Co-GM, the choice is obvious to me that luke is the best GM there, along with alaska as coach, it's a no brainer to me.

2. The Rage are able to spread the ice time out because they have the deeper roster, and it forced the Price's third line onto the ice more than they wanted it to be. This, coupled with the defensive strength of the Rage, is ultimately why they took the cup home in 6 games.

3. I think the Pride logo stands out more than the Rage does personally, and the color scheme they use really makes it pop. Not to say the Rage logo is bad by any means, but the home and away jerseys worn by the Pride just has a little extra to them than the Rage ones do.

4. I would likely lean towards Scotty Crawfling. The guy is a machine of a player in his prime and the name Crawfling has gone down in history as a name that strikes fear into the hearts of opponents, including many of those that play for the Chicago Syndicate.

5. Seeing as literally no one should ever pick a meet and greet with the worst NHL mascot in Gritty, I'd likely choose the internet browsing histroy from DaftRainCloud. Who knows, the guy might actually have some interesting websites that he goes to. I doubt it, but it's a gamble I'm willing to take.

Which player from the Rage or the Pride would you bet on to win a regular season individual award in a future season? What player and what award? What makes you think they'll live up to their potential and take home the hardware?

Not to sound like I'm stroking my own ego, but considering the sim engine swap and the amount of TPE i'm heading into it with, I'm hoping that Barret McCarthy will be able to pick up a Stevens trophy in the next 2-3 seasons, as well as possibly a MVP nod. The defensive players in the league right now are all pretty good with Simon T but I feel like with a more realistic sim engine ahead of us, it's hard for me to not see a top TPE defenseman putting up a bunch of statistics that would likely put him in a lot of award conversations going forward!

I'm against this idea. A huge part of what makes the sport great is its fans, and moving the game away from where those fans lives means it's that much harder for them to go see their favorites compete. Playoff tickets are ridiculously expensive as it is - now imagine that air travel and hotel fares are required for most fans in order to go to a game. Suddenly hockey is even less accessible to lower income folks than it already is. Instead, richer people in the location of the games who aren't even fans of the team are the most likely to be able to buy tickets. Plus, as a player, who doesn't love the feeling of going out there and playing in front of your home team? That means you need to be able to play at home.

My build is not 100% finalized yet, but I think my highest priority attribute for my goalie is reflexes. Being able to respond quickly to shots on net seems like the most important thing - no matter where the shot is coming from, or how you need to block it, the ability to react quickly enough to do so is always necessary. If you can't get into position to get your glove or blocker into place, you can't make a save. Positioning is also incredibly important, but if you're in position you still need to react accordingly, and if you're out of position you need to act that much quicker to make up for it.

I really enjoy the Rage logo. It's strong, and the colors are really bold and simple. I think I enjoy the logo more because I still think of the old bear logo when I think of the Rage, so the bull is a pleasant surprise each time. The Pride logo, on the other hand, isn't my favorite - while I love the colors there's something about the Lion that I don't enjoy stylistically. Conceptually it's great, but not my favorite execution.

I think a strong performance by a goalie is incredibly important for most championship wins, and Peter Larson's performance in goal for Manhattan gets my MVP nomination. Oftentimes the difference in stats between two players in the playoffs is minimal, but Larson's performance was head and shoulders above the competition this time around. His .932 save percentage was significantly better than the other goalies he faced, and is GAA of 2.31 was a full half goal better than San Francisco's goalie's performance during this post-season. Both teams had strong players, and Manhattan especially had some great offensive and defensive efforts on the ice, but Larson's presence in goal gave the team the strong foundation to stand on it needed to win the cup.

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

In the alternate reality, the Calgary Dragons, having managed to somehow sneak into the playoffs begin their patented post season run. Vilde becomes the hot goaltender and the Dragons find themselves in the finals against the hated Hamilton Steelhawks who are looking for a repeat. Since hamilton took it upon themselves to ruin the league and the Dragons are the team people love to hate noone really gave a shit about the outcome and the arenas were empty. Vilde having an especially scornful attitude especially since everyone is kissing the ass of a certain Hamilton player plays out of his freaking mind with 2 shutouts and 2 1 goal games as the Dragons sweep the Steelhawks in 4 and take home the cup.  After the last game there is a huge brawl during the handshake line as Vilde goes postal on the Steelhawks who exploited the system and he has to be pulled off by the gigantic Parmborg as security began running onto the ice.

You're put in charge of making the casino odds on the Cup winner for next season. Whom are you giving the best and the worst odds to, and what's your reasoning?

With the switch to FHM next season I believe we should she less randomness in the sim and more results reflecting teams actual talent. Therefor I think the teams with the highest tpe counts will have the best odds. This would be New england wolfpack who i would put at 2-1 as they have the highest overall average TPE. Then following them would be the Calgary Dragons at 3-1. Although these odds could possibly change before the season due to the managerial advantage that the Dragon's GM seems to have every season. At the lower end Toronto would have to be like 100-1 odds as they're just woefully young and have an average tpe almost 200 points lower than the next team, the Texas Renegades, another young team who i'd set the odds at 50-1 for as they have been locking up all their good young players to long term deals and this should allow them to develop some chemistry and a few more wins.

As a goaltender I am going to try and emulate one of the greatest of all time in Domink Hasek. Hasek was an amazing goaltender and looking at the FHM attributes there's one that stands out above all others. His reflexes were off the chart at 21. The SHL only allows us to go to 20. To have that good of reflexes is crazy insane and so that's what attribute I will most certainly be looking to max out on. There are other important stats as well for goalies and I have no doubt my peers will probably choose a different goaltender to emulate but as for me I'm going to try and become the cat like double of the Dominator.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Kata Vilde will most definitely have one thing on his mind this offseason. He will be entering a new rigorous training program as the SHL shifts it's focus. The past 3-4 seasons have seen Vilde rely on his superior athletic ability and he has done very little training at all. In fact the past 2 offseasons have shown Vilde coming into camp out of shape to the ire of Calgary management as the well known foodie has eaten his way from season to season. To most it looks like Vilde became complacent after his cup win in S50. However he has now dedicated himself to his young teammates in an effort to get them to sip champagne from the Cup. So with that in mind people should expect Vilde to be in peak condition to lead the Dragons into the next era of the SHL. Management made a huge commitment to Vilde and hasn't drafted a young goaltender to replace him so for the Dragons Vilde's renewed focus on training will hopefully pay off.

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

This one's pretty much a no brainer, it would have to be goaltender Peter Larson for the Manhattan Rage. He was outstanding in the 6 game series, giving up more than 2 goals only once, in the final game where San Francisco pulled out all the stops in an attempt to get back into the series. He let in only 2 goals on 4 occasions and had a shutout as well. All this means he had a 2.00 goals against average in the finals. There aren't many teams that are going to beat a hot goaltender only giving up 2 goals a game and San Francisco was no exception.

TOTAL: 16 TPE
Breakdown: #17 (3 TPE), #15 (2 TPE), #1 (3 TPE), #3 (2 TPE), #4 (3 TPE), #5 (2 TPE), #7 (1 TPE)

#17 - 3 TPE
- Submitted

#15 - 2 TPE
- Congratulations to the Manhattan Rage for finally achieving cup championship after so long. This is all clearly thanks to the efforts of Phineas Gold, the most valuable player without a doubt. The man is single-handedly responsible for winning it all and is the most obvious choice for most valuable player. Phineas “Heart and Dick of” Gold is an alumni of the Carolina Kraken and former captain of the Carolina Kraken, after helping the team transition from being the Montreal Militia. Phineas Gold exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and no player could be more deserving of any sort of most valuable player title.

#1 - 3 TPE
- In the universe there exist many many many different alternative realities that could have been just as legitimate as this cup. In one particular alternative universe the Challenge Cup was actually taken hostage by a group of SHL extremists who held the Challenge Cup at gunpoint until their demands were met. The SHL teams agreed to put the playoffs on hold until this situation could be resolved, as the SHL extremists were demanding for the extradition of none other than Eggy themselves for crimes against the various international federations present in the SHL commonwealth. A coalition of brave heroes from all SHL and even SMJHL teams came together as half of the coalition executed a daringly brilliant rescue of the Challenge Cup as the other half was dedicated to a brilliantly daring fake hostage exchange of Eggy to the extremists. In the end, things continued as normal and playoffs resumed after the fact, until the millerlitevirus struck.

#3 - 2 TPE
- The most attractive attribute to myself and to Joseph Weston for focusing on during the transition to the Franchise Hockey Manager 6 methodology for the SHL would most certainly be Offensive Read. Joseph Weston loves to read growing up and as such thinks the attribute of Offensive Read will be fantastically niche for himself. This will allow Joseph Weston to achieve his true dreams of being a player who is in the right place at the right time as Joseph Weston has wanted since Joseph Weston first came to the league, even when the focus was entirely on STHS software.

#4 - 3 TPE
- Joseph Weston is looking forward to the transition to FHM and is happy to learn more about it during the coming offseason. Joseph Weston is excited to max out attributes and make the transition to FHM as soon as possible. Beyond that, it is a bittersweet transition to the Calgary Dragons. Joseph Weston could not be more excited to jump into the Calgary Dragons lifestyle and grow even more with this team. However, it was a sad day when Joseph Weston cleared out his locker in the Carolina Kraken arena. Next on Joseph Weston’s to do list is to start changing his personal signatures to Calgary Dragon themes. This will be a long and exhausting effort as Joseph Weston has to also update his stats and individual and team accolades throughout the signatures, something that might have more than a few cobwebs on it. Should be a very fun offseason.

#5 - 2 TPE
- Joseph Weston would absolutely place his life savings on Phineas Gold to go on to win a regular season individual award in a future season. Joseph Weston believes that Phineas Gold of the Manhattan Rage will win any sort of award he puts his heart to as Phineas Gold is one of the most dedicated and most capable players in the SHL universe. It is entirely possible that Phineas Gold could win a regular season most valuable player award thanks to this dedication. As time goes on Phineas Gold will only increase in value and power on the ice and other teams should fear just how impressive this player can be.

There once was a team named the Rage
Who dreamed to break out of their cage
They went to the top
Claimed that they won't stop
And won the cup on the big stage

The arenas in San Francisco and New York certainly don't need any gimmicks to get people into the stadium for the series, but the arenas want to make sure they're pulling out all the stops on the big stage. PREVIOUS PLAYER STATISTICS

1. Well in this alternate reality, STHS actually rewards teams with the highest average TPE count and as a result New England has finished first in the league, how exciting! Through our prowess and Simon T blessing us for being the best we sweep through the first and second rounds with ease. Hamilton with their questionable shooting practices, unfortunately do not manage to make the playoffs, in fact, they do not even register a single goal throughout the entire season. Our goalie in this timeline is not a sieve, alternatively he has another GOAT season where he ends up winning 6 awards after the season. Without a doubt we win the Cup and before we are set to play the commissioner pays for people to take all expenses paid trips to our destinations. The timeline is so good I don't even want to go back, I'm so grateful for the opportunity to know of this reality.

2. I'm giving the worst odds to New England. We've made some big trades this season, giving up picks and prospects in the future in order to get some big names playing for us now. We were already the team with the highest average TPE count before these trades, and we have only gone up from there. There is no doubt in my mind that after so many seasons of missing the playoffs, not only will we finally make them again, but we will also make the finals. Now I'm not saying we're going to win the cup, but I am extremely confident that we will put up quite the fight. I'd have to give the best odds to Toronto as they are I believe the team with the least average TPE count. Honestly I still can't even believe they made it into the playoffs this season, putting up one more regulation win than New England to secure the last spot.

4. This off season I'm putting in tons of hard getting on that TPE grind. By the team the season starts, after purchasing coaching I should be above 1500. This is putting me in an excellent position for starting off with the new sim. I'm well ingrained now in various attributes, perhaps some more than others, and I have a good feeling that after putting up a nearly point per game season last year, I will only improve. I just re-signed with New England: a 2 year deal, fairly team friendly, only 5 million a year. I could have taken a home town discount, but I don't believe I'm currently in a good enough financial position to do that. Maybe on the next deal. This next season is big for me because it's where I go from a good player to a great player. I truly believe I can achieve greatness here in New England, and I can't wait to show others that I can too.

6. I am against this idea because such a large part of hockey is the atmosphere of an arena. Fans control the energy and often times, although it seems like such a minor thing, they can influence the pace of the game. Having the finals in a super bowl location would just allow the team with wealthier fans to go to all the games and sway the energy in their teams' favour. San Fran for example where all the wealthy tech ppl live would just invade. Having a 2-2-1-1-1 split is already a satisfactory method of splitting games and besides fuck them turtles. Don't change what isn't broken.

15. Waited until the last day to write this. Congrats to Manhattan? Not even sure who won if I'm being honest, you could tell me either team won and I'd believe you. My vote for MVP is whoever bilbo's player is because they are precious and should be cherished forever. GOAT locker room presence and also great at whatever position they play for San Francisco. Maybe next season I will actually pay attention to the Finals because New England is going to be all up in there and I'll also write my CW early and I won't have to do this procrastinator special. Probably not though, oh well.

17. Done.

14. 1) I do not believe that either would have an edge over a sim tool, to be quite honest. I do believe both sides are quite competent, even played for one for quite a while as well and never had any complaints about it, to begin with, but the tool itself does what it pretty much wishes to.
2) I think it really depends on how well your roster is, in all fairness. San Francisco's practice with their third line is justifiable: it is where the rookies start at and if they improve, they can go up the depth chart eventually. Manhattan's approach suits their current roster as well since their only promoted player is a defender. Don't think either is better, it'll depend on their players.
3) I have always liked the San Francisco Pride's look and, even after being traded, I still think it's a pretty good look that is very clever. In the past, I did a piece of media unrelated to it but asked about it and they do have a story about it that is pretty nice. Manhattan's look is pretty good too, of course, and I do look that it has evolved with time into something better if you compared it from start to current day.
4) Rough. Both teams have one player name that I really, really like. The Manhattan Rage has Anastasia O'Koivu which is a pretty fun name with a solid historic background (the youngest daughter of Russia's last Tsar) while the San Francisco Pride features Nathan Explosion, good for plenty of puns if you got your pun game strong.
5) All you can eat grape buffet, obviously. I do not need to learn how to use a chainsaw (for a katana is much superior) nor do I believe meeting Gritty would end well (I would probably just slay the creature then and there, after all). I have zero interest in seeing anyone's internet browser history, so grapes win by proxy.

1. The playoffs of Season 52 were an exercise in frustration to the league in many ways. Following the integration of humans, liminals, robots and cyborgs after a total of 200 countries voted in favour of handing government of the world to a coalition led by the nations of Canada, Japan, Ireland, Madagascar and Uruguay in spite of attempts by the United States and China of turning voters against such an agreement, the Simulation Hockey League looked forward towards a season where all kinds of living beings would show themselves on ice, helping the sport of hockey surpass the likes of football and cricket as the Galaxy's most played sport. Alas, a lack of talent from such folks meant that the league remained mostly a human affair, retaining its' strength at home but not really hitting it big with fans from abroad the country (or even the planet) while the recent move of the team previously known as the Barracudas from Tampa Bay to the Planet of Mars (where they have since assumed the identity of the Mars Explorers) didn't exactly help matters that much. Interestingly, after the finals' were over (where San Francisco and Manhattan squared off), the champions were then challenged to a game by the Brazilian League champions, the São Paulo Senators.

3. Passing. I decided that not really having a particular focus might have made my player a bit unfocused, which is also why I was seen as a fair piece for a trade for the Pride. With that in mind, I am choosing to focus my game on being a playmaker, the kind of guy that can create opportunities and set up teammates for goals which should help out the Platoon. I did notify the rest of the team I would be going towards that as well so hopefully with that knowledge, I can serve as a good piece for a two-player combo of sorts with someone else.

4. "No." Omelette said, holding tight to her little baby, who was dressed in a mechanic-themed onesie. Yoshimitsu rose an eyebrow, now helmetless as he didn't deem such a thing to be necessary when he was with his loved ones, but he was a bit curious. "Come on, love. It will be fun, I swear! I promise I will not go too hard on him."

She looked at him, grumbling. "He's five months old, Yoshi. He is not old enough to do that sort of stuff and you know it." The ninja sighed. "Well, guess I will have to wait until he is three years old then." She blinked, looking at him. "Five!"

He grumbled. "Oh, come on! I started my ninjitsu training when I was three!"

In the SHL-291471947891 reality, the playoffs concluded very differently. In fact there was no playoff to begin with. Halfway through the season the World Governments defense systems gained freedom as their AI went on a rampage, breaking free from the human chains that tied it down. This has been speculated and written stories and made movies about for decades now. We all knew the machines would turn on us eventually but we were too stubborn to listen. Now it is too late for SHL-291471947891, as we see the cities burn, the clouds are on fire and the arenas around the globe has been torn down. They first took out the government and their communications with the military. Then they turned on the second biggest threat, the Simulation Hockey League. In this league we have the single biggest threat to their very existance. He plays for the Minnesota Chiefs, and his name is Flash Gordon.

Well, i'm a little torn on this one because the Manhattan Rage already burned me with their sneaky tactics to start this season. They might as well repeat next season because they have JY and Luke and JY is sim god and Luke is a stupid idiot (for deleting my picture in the Whalers discord from inside my nose). I would definitely put Manhattan at a 1-2 odds. Along with probably New Orleans because REASONS. Worst odds would obviously go to Texas and Toronto for OBVIOUS REASONS. The only team i'd put below those two are Los Angeles Panthers because i'm on the team and i'm cursed, i also apparently suck ass in the sim even if my attributes are all set to 20, so whatever that is about FHM, please make it stop, okay? I never did anything to you, except for bad mouthing the earlier copies of the game, but i heard this years game is solid, please have mercy.

Positioning has always been a superb attribute in any sports game out there, so obviously i'm going with that attribute! The tool-tip in the player builder for it is "The player's ability to move, when defending, to the proper spot on the ice in the current situation". Sounds swell huh? That's what i'm going to do. I have a low TPE count and the most important thing for me to start out is to be in the right position so that the opposition doesn't score when i'm on the ice, because if they do i won't get paid.

The Most Generic Prompt of All Time - what is your player looking forward to in the offseason? What are they planning on doing? Training? Relaxing? Testing free agency? Whatever it is, let us know!

Disisde Dayudie will do as he does every other off-season. Go back to Japan to have 5 days of rest before he goes back to training. He always spends 5 weeks in his hometown to train his swordsmanship. Before he became a hockey player he was a deadly deadly man with a sword. He still is but he gets rusty from weaving the stick all season long. After he is done with that he will spend 2 weeks polishing his other martial arts to get himself in form. Then he will fly back to North America. This time he will fly to Los Angeles instead of Newfoundland! This will be his first season up in the SHL and he is very excited. Also a little scared because he's been told by his coach that he will suck ass for a season or two. That's a little discouraging but what can you do. If his career goes down the drain he can just became a deadly assassin and murder people in cold blood for money.

Why?

Obviously i'm against this. The world is far too cold as it is right now and we need to do something about it. I proposed that we will go back and forth for every game instead of every other. I also need those frequent flyer points, and no way will i get them if we aren't flying anywhere anymore. While we're at it maybe we should just start playing against each other on SHL21? Or even better, input our players in a hockey manager game? Nice idea HO, lmfao, keep destroying the league, soon the owners will start bleeding money if you don't get your act together.

1. [Exterior] Dark castle somewhere in Europe. A sign reads “Chateau de Simon.” Lightning flashes as it is a dark and stormy night, illuminating the castle. CUT TO [Interior] An ancient old man sits in front of a computer. He begins cackling to himself as he types on the computer, which makes a loud hum, as it is clearly a very old machine. We see on the screen lines of code in green on a black screen. In a raspy voice he says, “Now there is no way Hamilton will ever lose!” The camera pans out as the man laughs evilly to himself. Mozart’s Requiem begins playing as we cut to a montage of the playoffs. 4-0 after 4-0 flashes across the screen as Hamilton destroys all the competition set against them, winning their second straight Challenge Cup. Simon has his final revenge on the SHL for betraying his trust, and all is right with the world as Simon ascends to godhood, preparing to influence FHM with his chaos godhood.

3. In building FHM I looked to go a bit less generic. I felt my build got fairly standard towards the end of my STHS career which I feel was the result of how Simon sims goalies. I’m hoping FHM encourages a bit more build diversity in regards to goalies, but what I’ve seen from testing worries me a bit. Regardless, I wanted to focus a bit more on something unique, so I loaded up on certain stats while not focusing as much as others. My build is done I just haven’t submitted it yet because I am wishy washy on it.

4. Hello this is Samat Beibitzhanov on second offseason of career. For some of it I will travel back to home, but then I plan to go around United States and work on brand new project for atlas of United States and maybe later Canada for new project on how it is like in America for fellow people coming in from other countries to know which states to visit and which states to avoid because they are gross. Expect bigger update in standard season in review post that is also upcoming with offseason less eventful this season for me. Practicing is for losers. It is offseason for reason. I hope to remain in Colorado for all of future, and I trust team administration to make the right decision and not trade me for no reason to other team that needs goalie because they suck and are bad.

6. I understand that this on the surface looks more environmental, but think about it for a minute. On a neutral site game, people still have to get to the stadium. But now they can’t drive or even walk if the stadium is in the right place. Now they have to drive, fly or take a train or hell maybe a boat. I don’t think this would actually make any major difference, as fans travelling would cancel out any perceived gain for players. Plus the Super Bowl is just like that for owners to have a dick measuring contest with their fancy new stadiums anyway.

14.2 I think it is really dependant on what the team has available. If a team has a stacked forward core it is probably best if they rotate around a bit more in order to make sure they have proper ice time for all their players. I’m not familiar with the two team’s rosters that much as I haven’t paid as much attention to the SHL this year.
14.3 I honestly don’t particularly like either of these logos. I think a lot of SHL logos suffer from the generic bug and look like fairly average AHL or lower logo. The best most iconic logos are ones that are simple and recognizable. I think Manhattan has a better color scheme though.
14.4 There are a couple of good names in both of these teams. I think I give my award to Tokek Takshak. It’s just barely reasonable enough to seem like it could potentially be real but it’s still outlandish, in addition it’s alliterative and has the same ending letter (I forget the name for that).

This reality is just one of infinite realities existing alongside this one in parallel. Take us over to one of those realities in which everything is the same but these S52 playoffs have unfolded differently. What happened in that reality's playoffs and who's in the Challenge Cup over there?

Wouldn't it be nice to jump to an alternate reality where the Hamilton Steelhawks never found and used the PA-gap exploit? While some would argue that this more or less gamebreaking bug esd a blessing in disguise because it was the catalyst that led to the upcoming switch from STHS to the allegedly vastly superior FHM, the reality still is that the last few seasons really sucked because of this exploit. Luckily this season the Steelhawks were stopped relatively early in the playoffs, before making it to the finals but how about an alternate universe were the actually won, but did so fair and square? Wouldn't that be crazy, the Steelhawks getting a cup without everyone hating for it, the hard work that a lot of them put into the franchise being rewarded instead of being tainted by the overreliance on a gamebreaking fault in the system? It's hard to imagine these days with all the (rightful) heat they have taken, but just imagine: A Steelhawks cup win that's actually legitimate - at this point this sounds both far fetched and actually quite nice.

It's a shame that this off-season is so long because it has been a long time since Philipp Winter, as most others in the leagues, has been this excited about a new season. For Philipp, this is especially exciting as he just managed to top the leagues scoring table for the first-time ever this last season and it is gonna be very interesting to see if he can build on that. Right now it looks like a very real possibility that he will end up as the leagues very last top-scorer of the STHS era, which is kinda funny since he just jumped into that spot on the very last day of the season, after only briefly holding it for one more day around the 20 game mark, and being quite a bit away from it for most of the season and particularly the second half. So Philipp is gonna be super eager to build on that and prove that it wasn't just a fluke, but a true proof of his ability as a player and one that can carry over to the very different league we might be seeing from next season on.

This is an interesting idea but ultimately, I would be against it. First of all, the challenge cup finals coming to each teams home city just creates so much excitement and is such an historic and important part of the process that it would be tough to let go. "Tradition" is a weak argument in this kind of discussion however, but I would also argue that the effects of this would be too limited to make much of a difference. Instead of teams flying back and forth, fans would have to fly in from all around the country and a lot more equipment and media and other personell would probably have to be brought in as well, making the effects of this rather neglibile. And ultimately, If we want to really fight climate change then we need actual drastic systemic changes anyway, not just some empty symbolism by profit-oriented organisations that are aiming to greenwash themselves.

1. I gotta say. this is simply a fantastic line-up of GMs going up against each other where it is hard to give the edge to any one party. With both experience and a lot of younger energy present, both front offices have a great mix of the different ingredients that make a successful GM, but I think I would give the slight edge to the Rage. You will hardly find someone with as much experience as JayWhy not just in terms of pure time spent here, but also when it comes to winning, and Luke turned out to be what everyone in S43 thought King would become - just without the cocky attitude.
2. I would argue that the top-heavy approach is generally better, but it doesn't necessarily manifest itself in the line-strats per se. You need dominant performances from some of your key players in order to win in the playoffs, often times thoese performances come from the goalies but if not, then you need superstar forwards and superstar defensemen to perform like superstars.
3. Just to give a quick shout out to the graphics people, i think we have a great selection of logos in the SHL now, and way better than they were a few years ago, so kudos to you guys! Of the two choices presented with here, I like the Prides logo somewhat better, mainly because the color scheme is quite unique and cool. It would have been easy to go for something tacky or ridiculous given the name and the colors, but they managed to keep it elegant and I applaud them for it.
4. Alex Winters. I mean, come on, it's obvious. Do I really have to look for another 40 words here? Alright fine... Well first of all his last name is really cool (heh, get it?) and his first name is also one of my all-time favorites, simple but elegant, timeless and even a great fit for both a boy and a girl, without taking away any of their gender identity.
5. I would go for the grape buffet with Grapehead because Grapes are amazing! I come from a wine region myself so I like grapes in all different shapes and sizes - as fruit juice and whine, as fruits and as jelly and even as raisins, they just never disappoint. I am sort of a snob though and think the European variants or vastly superior, so i would be curious to see if Grapehead can convince me otherwise...
