So the season is drawing to a close on Monday, and we've all gotten the chance to see the star players of the league establish themselves throughout the season. For this PT, we will be taking a more creative approach, and with inspiration from a classic social media sports game, we'll be asking you guys to build a team using simple budgetary constraints. You have $18 to build a 6-man 'Superteam' of players from all over the SMJHL priced from $1-$5; how will you build yours?
Task
Written option: Pick your six player team, and for each player write 25 words or more about why you chose them.
Graphic option: Make a graphic showing an overview of your team. Must include each player's name and price.
Reward
4 TPE for doing the thing. (Just one, not both.)
Only S53 SMJHL Rookies (S54 SHL Rookies) are eligible for this PT.
Link PBE or NSFL submissions here to get credit for Welfare claims.
You cannot claim TPE for this PT until a post is made in the global claim thread.
Deadline
Sunday May 3rd @ 11:59 PM EST
Also: Special thanks to @reid_sutherland for this PT idea, he gets to claim 1 uncapped TPE for the suggestion. Also thanks to @Dextaria for an awesome job making the graphic

F: Jack Kanoff, Jack Kanoff, Jack Kanoff
D: Jack Kanoff, Jack Kanoff
G: Jack Kanoff
I chose Jack cuz he is very hot irl and a very good defenseman (much better than that kasius bum or gabriel johnson nerd), he is very good and fast and plays the game the RIGHT way. He is also very good at blocking shots and as a result would make a fantastic goalie
04-26-2020, 08:53 PM(This post was last modified: 05-02-2020, 08:05 PM by Count Chocula.)
F: Kaarlo Kekkonen $5
Hands down the sexist player available in the group. Kekkonen generates a ton of scoring chances and is the premiere LW in the league this season.
F: Simothy Drunkebird $2
A Great value pick for a 2-way center who can generate offense and is formidable on defense. His faceoff ability is what really is attractive though.
F: SLATT Potts $1
The most value pick on the board, he has 34 points on the season and is 6th among RW. He is also a great 2-way player with 50+ blocked shots.
D: Jukka Timonen $4
Jukka is a fantastic offensive defenseman for the price. He ranks 5th in scoring among defense, ang 6th in blocked shots. He is a total package on the blueline.
D: Bradley Barkov $2
Barkov is a solid Right handed shot on the blueline. He is more of a powerplay specialist than anything. He is also the best player I could get with the money I had left over.
G: Cale Amundsen $4
Arguably the best goalie all season long. He single handedly kept Newfoundland in the playoff race all season long. For stretches he has been their best player. Boasting a .919 SV% he's a no brainer in net.

The Falcons F: $5 Karlo Kekkonen
First Falcon off the board for me, he's a monster in the front third and somehow also manages to keep his goalie safe. A+ F: $3 Reid Sutherland
Another Falcon to team Odinson and it's easy to see why, he puts up shots and they go in the net (sometimes), that's what forwards do. F: $2 Frederick Wanesly
Here we add our third Falcon to the list - He shoots goals and makes bread, what more could you want from a teammate? D: $5 Jack Kanoff
Another Falcon to help stack the team, I like his name and he tampers real well... or does he? #freejeff. He also makes sure I don't have too many pucks shot at me and that's a good thing too I guess.
The list should really end here because that's all the Falcons good players I can afford, but I'll try and struggle through the rest of the muck anyway. The Rest... D: $1 Slatt Potts
This guy is cheap and he looks good in a suit so I'm taking him to help fill out the ranks. Can he play hockey? I don't know and I don't care because he's only a dollar. G: $2 Cillian Kavanaugh
It's an absolute disgrace that I'm not on this list and as such I will protest by complaining in this explanation about that instead of writing why I made this pick. Also it's because I had $2 left and that's how much he costs.
Forward
($5m) Edward Williams- How can we build a team and not include this great! Goal leader, assists leader, ppg leader 2nd in hits. This guy does it all.
($2m) Jaska Seppala- This would be a steal at $2m, with his 23 goals on the season he trails league leader by 5 and gets things taken care of in his own end with 39 blocked shots. Great cap hit!
($4m) Mega Tron- How can we not have this guy and his name on the team? Also one of the top in the league with 22 golas and also like Seppala takes it for the team with 55 blocked shots. Defense
($4m) Jukka Timonen- Great 2 way defenseman and a huge minute eater throughout the game. Powerplay penalty kill, he gets the job done. Also whipped 154 shots on goal and blocked 91 shots.
($1m) Valentin Kalashnikov- Plays a lot of minutes and brings the grit to the team. 4th best in the league with 163 hits and blocked 84 shots. He and Jukka will make you pay the price coming into our zone! Goalie
($2m) Cillian Kavanagh- My last couple of bucks are well spent on my friend and teammate. Also helps that he is the best goalie in the SMJHL right now and the foreseeable future. 27 wins and 5 shutouts by the way!
Cale Amundsen G $4
Elite goalie that comes to play every game. Tenacious is his middle name. Big fan base that follows him around like he was in some boy band.
Jukka Timonen D $4
Keeps the puck out of the net and plays well with others. His favorite color is teal. He is the one I can count on in net.
Slatt Potts F $1
Feisty forward that likes to get in those dirty areas. Another hard worker and a steal for the asking price. Can't ask for anything more.
Jack Kanoff D $5
A hero of young men, Jack Kanoff is the only thing they think of. A legend in his own mind, he will be going places. Excellent skater with long strides.
Jaska Seppala F $2
Not sure about this pick but he seems like a great player. I have faith in my scouting team and went with what they said. He should be solid.
Frederick Wanesly F $2
I was so excited to see Wanesly was there for the taking. Blue collar hockey player that plays by the rules. Great work ethic. I am sure he will set the pace during practice.
I dont see Simon Takshak on this list. That's good, i wouldn't pick him.
we gotta take Ed Williams. He's lighting up the league, I hate playing against his stupid team, booooo. But I take him for the same reason i draft matthews in fantasy - he is good.
Jaska Seppala is too low on this list. 2 bucks is a farce, i am upset on his behalf, yadayadayada, 23 goals on the season, absolute steal, and so forth. Taken.
Jimmy Wagner has cool sigs, so I'm assuming he must be good. Wait fuck, he's on the Kraken. Maybe he'll play better off of it? Hopefully. Either way he's pretty cheap.
Sven Yksaft is our first dman because he seems like a cool dude in the vancouver LR and thats good. Itd be easier to do this PT if i really looked at the index, but whatever
Guy O'Shea is my next pick because he has an Erik Karlsson render. It makes me sad when i remember he was traded but i still draft him every year in fantasy with slowly worse and worse results :|
And we have enough left to pick up Cillian Kavanagh. Perfect. He's good, because he can win games even when I'm seemingly trying to feed the other team goals. Actually a wizard in net.
04-27-2020, 12:33 AM(This post was last modified: 04-27-2020, 01:53 AM by Rotti.)
G: Cillian Kavanaugh(2) Cill is a steal at 2 bucks. I know there's only so many goalies in the league, so it makes sense that he has to be *somewhere* on the board, but I can't leave a Knight out there for $2 who's singlehandedly won games for us.
D: Jack Kanoff(5) This guy is a stud, plain and simple. Detroit are insane from the blue line, and Kanoff is part of the reason why. He's not a goal scoring machine, but he's our star D man on this team.
Bryce Turner(3) This guy is a very underrated player in our league. Clappers from the blue line, tape to tape passes with his D-pairing. What more can you ask for in a bargain bin buy for this squad? Bryce is a great pick, and he'll fit in well with jack kanoff.
F:Jaska Seppala(2)/ Gotta rep my team, and Jaska is our big time forward on the Knights. I watch him put goals in almost every game, and if its not hitting the net for him he's firing a taper to one of our other first liners.
Van Der Heijden(5)/ This guy is my favorite forward in the J this season. I wrote about him in one of my PGS comments, and I think he's the star forward a front line needs in a 6v6 game.
Slat Potts(1) This guys got a great name for that price, A single buck for a guy with a name like Slat Potts? bargain. With the other two forwards I'd see him getting a lot of poke ins from tape to tape passes, and "A GOAL BY SLAT POTTS" has a ring to it.
F1: Jimmy Wagner $1
An absolute stud of a man on and off the ice. Great leadership skills and he knows how to work that puck around the opposing team. I personally believe Wagner is a steal for his price.
F2: Mega Tron $4
This monster of a man will punish you where it counts. Consistently scoring points for the team, he will send the puck flying from a distance at the speed of light towards the opposing goalie.
F3: Braden Lowrie $3
Lowrie is a very capable forward, he has the determination that many players lack in the league. A speedy bugger on the ice, he is not afraid to burst around opponents to get the open shot.
D1: Sven Yxskaft $3
In my opinion, the best Dman in the league. He will hit anyone harder than they have been hit before, then proceed to get up and steal the puck from right underneath them. If he has an open shot, you bet your ass he will take it too. A punishing machine on the ice.
D2: Alexei Petrikov $2
Petrikov is one of the best two way defensemen in the SMJHL. This fella will play with force, quick to accelerate towards the puck to steal it, or to smash the opponent in the mouth.
G: Frans Eller $5
Easily the best Goalie on this list. Well worth the money. While his record this season isn't the greatest, he has been the driving factor in keeping the Kraken's in the race to the playoffs. Eller is a monster of a man that can move like a ballerina, perfect for blocking shots.
04-27-2020, 07:08 AM(This post was last modified: 04-27-2020, 07:35 AM by MegaSkuci.)
Honestly if I could I'd play Vítek Víteček on every position. It would simulate the real Toronto Maple Leafs. Scoring so many goals, but allowing almost even more.
Unfortunately, this task doesn't allow me to do it, so here is my team:
Seppala is a goal-scoring force, in combination with the other two forwards he is capable of scoring amazing goals. If I could pick Vítek Víteček I would gladly replace Seppala with him.
Sutherland is the opposite of Seppala. This year he showed he is THE playmaker. He can dish the puck to both wings and there always won't be a bad choice. The linemates should make him even stronger, he was an obvious choice.
Wags gang? Is that even a question why I picked him? The 1$ sign for him is the most worth deal ever. That's what you call stonks. He should be in the 5$ tier. He is a very fast skater who can make space, defend very well and also score a goal. What else do you need?
Turner: This was the last guy I picked, so I knew what tier I was going for. I don't really know him, so there's nothing much to write here. I hope he would play well.
Timonen a really good defenseman. I love his style, I know he can help the team in all areas but mainly in the defense. Great pick by me(all picks made by me are great obviously). This team is the best.
Eller. This guy should cost my whole 18$ budget. It is unfair for him to cost so low. This guy is a team in himself. If he was playing alone in the net against complete hockey teams( ) he could win just by himself. Get to the shootout, score himself, easy win. There is really no contest when it comes to the goalies. Oh and also, he won't ever boost Wags ego, so no overconfidence problems in here
F - Mitchell van der Heijden - 5$ -
Mitchell van der Heijden is good player and one of the greatest players in SMJHL at this moment. Even he comes from Armada and I don't have any good relationship with him or his team, I recognize talent and good hockey player. He is one of them and it's only normally to see him here. Averaging one point per game... SICK! (61 words)
F - Simothy Drunkebird - 2$ -
These type of choices was really easy for me. If I saw out there Raptors players I automatically took them. No matter how good or bad they are. They are just Raptors and that is just obvious that I will pick my teammates. I think that Drunkebird is one of the best SMJHL players at this moment. (57 words)
F - Reid Sutherland - 3$ -
This was kinda my last pick. I picked Jimmy Wagner at first, but then I understood that I got two dollars left and I can upgrade this position. I think that player with more experience than Wagner would fit better, even if I don't know much about him. He is decent in statistics, getting these assists and helping Falcons to win Four Star Cup this season. Obvious choise for me to get someone who can pass, not only score. (79 words)
D - Bradley Barkov - 2$ -
Another one Raptors player and I am proud of him. He is helping a lot Raptors this season and his performance and good playing have helped a lot. Of course, he have this spot. Plus, he costs only two dollars, which is ''WHAT?''. (43 words)
D - Guy O'Shea - 5$ -
This could be that one defender on which every other defender looks up to on SMJHL. Bright future, dominant in SMJHL and pretty obvious choice if you got some cash left to spend. (33 words)
G - Samat Beibitzhanov - 1$ -
Another Raptors player. This time it's goalie who costs only one dollar and it's obvious, because of performance on this season. But I can guarantee that next season he will be five times better. This is just a warm-up - mark my words! Beibitzhanov will rock! (45 words)
So this team is basically one Armada player, two Falcons players and three Raptors players, haha!
Total - something like 300-350 words, if I am right.
F – Jimmy Wagner ($1)
Although this hasn’t been his best statistical season, Wagner was an All-Star candidate and put up 29 points in spite of being on arguably the SMJHL’s worst team. The fact that he also put up 40+ hits and shot blocks is icing on the cake.
F – Reid Sutherland ($3)
Top ten in points, a +24 as part of one of the league’s absolute best units, and a solid leader to boot. He’s a steal at the $3 mark, even if players like Kaarlo Kekkonen and Edward Williams have more points total.
F – Ethan Price ($4)
I’m not sure I can give a great hockey justification for selecting Ethan Price, but his graphics for player tasks are too hilarious and his stats are solid at the $4 level to boot. Plus he's a really nice guy - he just needs to sleep more. Like, a lot more. If you're reading this Zomp, go to bed.
D – Alex Petrenko ($4)
Petrenko has been my mentor and the lone defensive standout for the Anaheim Outlaws this season. He effectively facilitates playmaking and rock-solid defensive performances (often 100 DGR) in spite of having no equal to pair with.
D – Bryce Turner ($3)
Yeah, a -12 is pretty ugly. But with 38 points (including 19 power play points) and a staggering 13.39% shooting conversion, you bet he’s worth the money. He’s the defender with the most points in the league and an excellent complement to Petrenko. He plays on one of the lower-rated teams in the league, so his plus-minus can’t be all his doing (as his team is -18 total).
G – Name Redacted ($3)
A rookie sitting at fourth overall in save percentage (minimum 30 games played) at the $3 mark? Are you kidding me? This one’s a no brainer for me; he has one of the best goalie grades and has made a crazy 1,290 saves over the course of the season, first in the league.
SLATT Potts $1mil- With thirty three points in forty nine games and a team leading nineteen goals this season Potts is at a bargain price for one million. He is a top ten forward in the juniors and a dynamic offensive leader for the Newfoundland Berserkers. His defensive game is also underrated as he has racked up thirty five blocked shots so far this season.
Mega Tron $4mil- Tron is another great goal scorer to have in this lineup with twenty two goals so far in forty eight games. He also has twenty two assists being an equally talented playmaker and plays on one of the most explosive forward lines in the SMJHL. In addition, he has a ton of blocked shots with fifty five.
Reid Sutherland $3mil- Another Detroit Falcon on this list is a big part of their high flying offense as Sutherland has thirty seven points in forty eight games and a whopping thirty assists being a big time playmaker. In addition, he has sixteen takeaways and thirty two blocked shots making him pretty responsible in his own end as well.
Defensemen
Jukka Timonen $4mil- My boy Juka has been an absolute beast on the back end which is why he was a no brainer pick for my team. He has got twenty seven points this year on top of nine one shots blocked and forty two takeaways. He has also been playing the most minutes at just under twenty seven minutes a night and am convinced he does not remember where the bench is some nights.
Valentin Kalashnikov $1mil- Another bargain player for the price is Kalashnikov who has been amazing in his own end with one hundred and sixty three hits and eighty four blocked shots. He plays a ton of minutes as well with over twenty minutes on the ice a night and should compliment Timonen really well.
Goalie
Cale Amundsen $4mil- Cale has been the heartbeat for the Newfoundland Beserkers this year and in my mind should be the rookie of the year and been the best goalie in the SMJHL. He has the highest win percentage of his teams victories in the league, has the most shutouts in the league and a solid 0.918 save percentage while facing the third most shots in the league.
F: Edward Williams $5
Williams is almost a no-brainer for one of the forward spots. He’s been absolutely setting the SMJHL on fire with 62 points so far this season as a part of the dominant Detroit Falcons team this season.
F: Jimmy Wagner $1
Wagner is a talented player, who is currently in a tough position due to being on a rebuilding Carolina Kraken team. But with more talented teammates, he’ll certainly shine much brighter, especially considering his all-around skillset.
F: Ethan Price $4
Price is currently sixth in the league in points and fifth in goals. The Anaheim winger is a pure sniper who would not only be able to shoulder the scoring burden but would also surely benefit from playing on a line alongside Williams and Wagner.
D: Valentin Kalashnikov $1
Kalashnikov has been one of the bright spots of another rebuilding team, the Maine Timber. He’s solid in his own zone and is good at moving the puck up to the forward line, which will be an important thing for a team like this with talented forwards.
D: Alex Petrenko $4
Alex Petrenko is one of the best defensemen in the SMJHL. While he hasn’t had the benefit of playing on one of the top teams in the league, he’s got a great two-way game and has had one of the most impressive seasons for a defenseman not on Detroit or Anchorage. The Russian has 26 assists, 32 points, and a 9.5 relative CF%.
G: Name Redacted $3
A goaltender formerly known by a different name, rookie Name Redacted has had a solid season. He’s put up a .916 save percentage and 2.81 GAA on a fairly weak Vancouver Whalers team and has faced the most shots of any goaltender in the league. With a better team ahead of him he’ll surely be more secure in net.
