IIHF Changes
#1

Hey everyone with the IIHF transitioning to FHM, the IIHF Commish team has worked with IIHF GMs to plan for the switch.

Our goal is to have IIHF still be a fun tournament that has as many people involved as possible after a long offseason but we understand the need for keeping things from being too lopsided towards certain high TPE nations. We think the IIHF best of 1 format will help with some "randomness" so the same teams don't always win but we also have proposed a few other measures to help with this further (as well as some other general changes). Please note all of this is subject to change again for future seasons

1) Bump Baseline TPE for Mandatory Active Roster Selection from 350 to 425 TPE.
a) Baseline TPE for mandatory roster selections of actives over inactives raised from 350 TPE to  425 TPE.

b) This will essentially mean you are only required to select active capped SMJHL players over higher TPE inactive SHL players. Lower TPE SMJHL players are still able to participate and enjoy WJC.

2) Dressed Roster Size of 20
a) Max “Dressed” Roster Size and Min “Dressed” Roster Size set to 20 (4 F lines and 3 D pairs).

b) Teams who dressed either 21 or 22 actives in the last tournament will have the option to “Roster” the exact same 21 or 22 players (dependent on last tournament). However, only 20 players can be dressed per game so players will need to be rotated in and out between games. The goal is for all teams to eventually have 20 be both the “Dressed” size and “Rostered” size. So as soon as a player retires/goes inactive that team’s “Roster” size will go down by 1 to eventually match the “Dress” size.

3) Active Skater Ice Time only applies to players at or above 425 TPE
a) Active skaters at or above 425 TPE must receive a minimum of 10% (6 mins per game) playing time in 5v5 lines.

b) If a team has 15 or less 425 TPE+ active skaters they may play the 4th forward line less than 10% (6 mins per game).

c) if a team has exactly 16 425 TPE+ active skaters, they may play the 4th line less than 10% (6 mins per game). However the 425+ TPE player placed on the 4th line must be rotated around so that they don’t play less than 10% in more than half of games during the round robin stage.

d) Teams with 17 or 18 425 TPE+ active skaters must utilize all four forward lines with at least 10% (6 mins per game ice time).

4) Format Changes
a) Unfortunately FHM does not allow a crossover playoff format. We have decided to merge all nations into 1 group and have them play each other nation once (13 games total). This should avoid any situations where the top 3 teams end up in the same group and allow us to maintain a similar amount of games.

I know this is a lot to digest, we will do our best to help out everyone as much as possible. We may take further steps in the future but we believe this is a good start.
Cheers,

I have a question about the FHM and IIHF ... is it possible to call for a tournament a Homenation? because that would be awesome! all nations would then have home tournaments in the future Smile

So, basically if you play in SMJHL and you have 424 TPE you can't play in IIHF, but if you are capped with 425 TPE you can? Even if TPE is banked?

i think you can play if you don't have it banked, but you aren't required by GMs to replace inactives. I also think they check your total TPE, not your applied TPE

Not quite, consider this:

A team has a 1000 TPE inactive and two actives, one at 424 TPE and one at 425 TPE. all of them vying for the last roster spot.

According to this rule, you have to dress the 425 TPE player instead of the 1000 TPE player.

If there were two roster spots up for grabs, the 425 TPE player gets in of course, but for the 2nd spot a Fed Head may choose the 1000 TPE inactive over the 424 active player.

Seconded

If we’re going to impose a cap on IIHF rosters that’s going to potentially leave actives off the roster (at least to start), transfer restrictions should be relaxed until all rosters are in compliance with the roster cap.

Let players transfer out of power nations that won’t be in compliance right away without the receiving nation using its one transfer per season or something.

Yup 8 teams will still make the knockout stage (same as in past seasons). Transfers will stay the same currently but we are looking at potentially giving smaller nations additional transfers in the future if parity proves to be a huge problem.
