As the other player looks to wind up and take the shot, you take 0 seconds before lunging with your whole body and laying out in front of the shot.

As the puck crack into your should it manages to dampen the inertia that was built on the shot and instead of ricocheting wildly it kind of flops dead in front of your face.

You are in a split second of perceived invulnerability.

The pain hasn't hit yet.

Get up and get that puck and try and pass or get it out of the zone

Or

Get up and abandon defense and skate for last second breakaway

You see the player take the shot but the pain is too much. You stay down as the shot is blocked by someone else closer to your team's goal.

You take a few breaths to calm down before attempting to hoist yourself up onto your skates.

As you manage to get up your mind races for what the right call would be.

Should you get off the ice and get someone else on?

Should you try and go for an offensive play?

What do you think?

Skate for Bench

Call for the puck and make a play

They always say that when you first block a shot that you feel no pain. Boy were they wrong.

This wasn't your first blocked shot ever, but damn does it hurt every time.

The shot takes you to your knees and you almost feel like collapsing on the ground.

You're pretty sure you might have broken a rib on that shot block.

As you begin to fall down you look up and see that puck is back to the player and theyre taking another shot.

Its too soon! What if you're team isn't ready for them...

Lunge again with your body to block the shot

Or

Continue falling down

The player in front of you is about to take a shot. It's up to you to do something about it.

You decide to put your skate to the ice and you speed up to charge at the player and scare them from making the shot.

The player almost expects your little outburst and with a faked shot and little smirk at you they are ducking past you and as you're shoulder to shoulder with them you realize with a sneaking decision that you've been played.

As the attacker is about to pass you you turn around in desperation

Grab the player's shirt

Or

Throw your stick in front of them

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

This game is too close going into the last two minutes and you're defensive reasoning is starting to break down.

As the attackers gain entry to your zone you start swinging your stick wildly back and forth to attempt to block any passes from going in front of you.

The other teams seems to sense your desperation as they avoid your position and pass it around.

Your team seems to be all feeling the same thing as everyone is making mistakes while trying to find the opporunity for just one more goal.

Anything that keeps the other team from straight winning at this point.

The puck finally comes to a player in front of you and you are a step out of position.

The player winds up as it looks like they're about to shoot.

Maybe you can catch them?

Charge the player to disrupt the shot

Or

Get in position to block the shot

You take the goalies exposed 5 hole as an opportunity to quickly snap a puck through that open slot.

Only to have the goalie anticipate this.

He baited you and was able to close his legs at the last minute covering up the puck and ending your attack attempt.

Shortly afterward the whistle blows to end the period.

The game is over.

You sit there on the ice wondering if your effort was good enough.

Your teammates shot hits the post and ricochets right off towards you with a weird bounce. You manage to settle the puck and realize you are right up on top of the goalie

As the goalie scrambles to grab the puck he realizes that your stick is already on the puck and ready to shoot.

In this final battle of willpower, he backs off to defend against the shot to come.

You notice he is slightly out of position with his legs a little too spread apart.

Do you shoot for the inviting 5 hole?

Or

Aim for that glove and hope for the best

Instead of taking the shot from your vantage point, you decide that the playing a fast one on the goalie at the last moment would be better for you.

You pass the puck to your teammate.

The goalie slides over to position himself as your teammate gets himself set up.

He takes a shot at the goalie going for the legs.

The goalie goes for a kick to get it out of harm's way...

AND MISSES IT!

The puck slides towards the back of the net...

And careens right into the post.

Plink!

The puck bounces out of harms way right at you

PLAY THAT REBOUND!

You line up your shot.

You fake a look at your teammate.  The goalie isn't fooled.

He doesnt even waver.

You whip your stick without any hesitation.

The stick looks to bend at a 45 degree angle and you are sure its going to snap in half when it suddenyl snaps back to rigidity.

The puck flies at the goalie.

It's at the goalie and they're just starting to make a move.

With one wicked quick wrist shot...

YOU HAVE SCORED A GOAL!

The whistle blows shortly afterward signaling the end of the game.

You manage to get your stick on the puck as it's passed right by you. It's a good thing you blocked that outside lane with your stick.. The attacker tried to get one past you and you held your ground. You start a rush before the other team can react. One of your teammates joins the rush and soon a 2v1 develops.

Its you and your teammate in on the goal.  It's the two of you vs the goalie after out speeding the other players.  You pass back and forth after clearing hte blue line.

Your teammate fake a shot and instead passes it to you.

The puck lands on your stick.

15 feet to go.

The goalie is looking right at you.

Take the shot yourself

Or

Pass the puck

You set your stick to the left. Entirely hoping that you can cut off the same passing lane that they just used and maybe get lucky.

As you get in closer to use your body to block the shooting lane the attacker rifles a pass up the right side and past you.

As you turn around to continue blocking the passing lane and the reset. You see that the other team has set up a relay right in front of your goal.

A quick succession of passes shows that the player on the outside swings it around quickly behind the net. Pulling the defenders out.

The receiving player naps it to center ice where an attacker has moved into position.

In less the a 2 seconds the other team is in striking position.

The player at center ice blasts the puck...

Right past your goalie.

THE OTHER TEAM SCORES

Shortly afterward the buzzer sounds signaling the end of the game.

You decide to hook the player as they try to pass you.

It's a pretty obvious hook but the refs manage to miss it somehow.

The other player shrugs it off as they skate by you only slightly impeded.

They take a shot and its whistled dead as it was caught by the goalie.

BUT WAIT.

The refs are coming out and pointing at you.

Someone saw the hook and the two of you just missed the whistle in the heat of the moment.

You are pulled to the penalty box for the last 45 seconds of the period.

The other team pulls in an extra attacker for a 6 on 4.

After 40 seconds of passing and shot blocking the other team takes one last shot...

NO GOAL!

The buzzer sounds and the game is over!

You go to lift the stick of the other player as they try and pass you in an attempt to strip the puck.

Before you have a chance to lift the stick the other player gets their body in front of you and bats your stick out of the way.

As they blaze past you on a vector straight for the goal they raise their stick.

You try desperately to reach out a second time to get that puck, but before you have a chance to.

The other players stick come down with serious force

A slap shot right at your goalie.

With a screen in front of them they stood no chance.

As the puck screams past you, you realize that blocking the passing lane might have been a bit above you. Your defensive skills are mediocre on a good day.

You change your position to no block the shooting lane. This requires less skill and more about how big you can play on the other player.

Your goal here is to make yourself look so intimidating that the other player passes back to the top and resets the play.

Unfortunately, it looks like this other player isn't buying it. Maybe you can scare them?

Position your stick on the right to block a play up the ice

Or

Position your stick left to keep blocking the passing lane like you intend

You choose to keep blocking the passing lane thinking that there is no chance that this player will take a shot like this.

There has got to be too much traffic in front of the net right now for this guy to do anything.

It was definitely better off stopping him from passing again.

Famous last words.

The player decides to start skating in.

It is only then that you realize your defensive error and you turn to catch up with the player trying to get past your zone.

In desperation, you make a bad call.

Fumble and reach out with your stick

or

Attempt to recover and lift your opponents stick
