![]() ![]() Anaheim Outlaws Team Analysis Anaheim’s season was a roller coaster, they started 10-3 in their first 13 games off the backs of a deep and strong defensive and goalkeeping core, allowing 1.8 goals in those ten wins. There were underlying issues though, giving up 7 to Anchorage, 4 to Kelowna, and 6 to Carolina in those three losses. The wheels finally fell off at the end of October where the 10-3 Outlaws lost a back to back with Maine, gave up 10 to the Raptors, and fell off their elite pace hard. When the dust settled they found themselves at 10-11-1, a 9 game losing streak where they gave up 51 goals. The team rediscovered their identity in the second half of the season, giving up only 65 goals over the last 28 games, a 2.32 GA/G metric that would have left them at 2nd in the league if they did it over 50 games. The top pairing of LeBlond and Bergman combined with the defensively stout middle six forwards to make Strom Chamberlain and Separa Borro’s lives great from mid-November onward. Outlaws X-Factor Rikard Hammarberg The third line center and penalty killer has been a rock for the team all season, but when the power play just wasn’t igniting he slotted in to the point position and exploded in offensive production. His last 28 games resulted in 25 points, including 12 assists on the man advantage, which launched his name into the fringe of MVP conversations. His ability to see the ice and set up others when given enough time has to be one of Colorado’s top concerns this series, especially if they continue to average almost 4 minor penalties a game. Colorado Raptors Team Analysis With far and away the most volatile offense in the league, the Raptors are a super unpredictable team. Scoring the 4th fewest goals per game, they were tied with Newfoundland for games where they scored at least 5 goals, and that can only be achieved by having down games on other nights. 21 games where they were shut out or only scored 1 goal, the only team worse than that was Vancouver and their 84 goals on the season. Their SDGF (Standard Deviation of Goals For) of 2.164 is a hair away from the highest in the league, the Carolina Kraken. This team can actually explode in offense, but it’s so inconsistent that it's hard to believe they can string it together for a full series. Samat Beibitzhanov has the ability to steal a game - 6th in save percentage among starters, 2 shutouts - and Colorado sports a stout defense where they don’t give up many shots (26.52 SA/G, 3rd in the SMJHL), but they don’t back up the defense with enough consistent offense. Raptors X-Factor Sven Svenson No skater more represents Colorado’s offense than Sven Svenson, the 3rd year winger can absolutely take over games and make his presence known in the offensive zone. But his production mirrors the Raptors at times, going without a point in 25 games, and having ten multi point games including 2 assists in the 10-1 win and 4 points (2G, 2A) in the 6-3 win against Anaheim. In Colorado’s 4 losses to the Outlaws the team’s points leader registered just one point, and in their 4 wins he was good for points in 3 games and had 7 total. The Swedish letter wearer is the spark plug for this team, and that’s even more true this series. Prediction When both teams have comparable and strong defenses, effective goalie tandems, similar penalty and special teams numbers, and comparable team stats. I can’t go away from the team that has shown more consistency this season. Colorado’s explosive offense will get them a game or two but it will cost them just the same, and Anaheim’s offense is enough to win the tossups. The Outlaws win the series in 6 games. ![]() SMJHL GM Lord of Lighting the Lamp
