Team Sweden S54 World Junior Championships Roster Announcement
Hello fellow Swedes and SHLers, @Zema and I are proud to announce the roster for the S54 Swedish World Junior Championship team! This year, we had tough choices on who to bring along to the World Junior Championships, as we have a lot of talent to pick and choose from! We have high hopes for this team that is ready to roar, and we know that these players will give it their all for their country's chance at a gold medal! Heja Sverige! ![]() ![]() ![]() Forwards Taylor Johansson - @Tayjay Returning for another shot at the World Junior Gold, Taylor Johansson is a skater who can be a game-changer and has clutch instincts when it comes to scoring timely goals. Johansson is a speedy player with a great burst of speed who can steal the puck in a blink of an eye, and we’ll be relying on his offensive skills during this tournament. Rikard Hammarberg - @jtam Rikard Hammarberg is the third line linchpin for the Outlaws and has been absolutely outstanding this season for the Anaheim Outlaws, amassing a team leading 44 points (14 goals, 30 assists). Playing up and down the line up without complaint, Hammarberg made the most of the opportunities given to him and has quietly snuck into Team MVP consideration. With Johansson we expect him to do great things for the blue and yellow! Reid Sutherland - @"reid_sutherland" Reid Sutherland is a fresh transfer to Team Sweden in the S54 season, and brings with him a wealth of experience and skills that allowed the Detroit Falcons to win the Four Star Cup in S53, and to bring the current Four Star Cup favourites, the Newfoundland Berserkers, to the brink in 7 games in the first round of the S54 playoffs. Reid is a playmaking two-way pivot who can play the game in both ends, and has the high end creativity to rival any of the other players in this squad. Sven Svenson - @LordBirdman Sven Svenson makes his Fourth WJC appearance for Team Sweden with another try for the gold. The half-Swede half-American winger had a great season for the Colorado Raptors, scoring 16 goals and 22 assists for 38 points, leading his team in scoring. Svenson is a scoring threat from anywhere on the ice and is an asset on the power play. His defensive play has stepped up this year as his team relied on him on all situations. Svenson’s devotion to King Carl knows no bounds. Ryan Rieley - @Brandon On loan from Team USA, Ryan Rieley is a promising young player who is currently playing for the Colorado Raptors. Rieley has a heavy, accurate shot, and isn’t afraid to lay the body in the corners to separate the puck from opposing players. With his punishing playstyle, he will be a force to be reckoned with on the ice! Etan Merauk - @dngrweelz A transfer hailing from Poland, Etan Merauk is a two way forward with a balanced game. Merauk is surprisingly responsible in his own zone for a young player and isn’t afraid to get dirty in the corners or block a shot. Sven Gunnar - @Southie Sven Gunnar is back for his second tourney with Team Sweden. The Gävle native was selected by the Anchorage Armada and had a great season, with a first-round loss in Game 7 to the Kelowna Knights in overtime. Gunnar amassed 10 goals and 6 assists for a total of 16 points in his first season, and had a great shooting percentage of 14.08% Juni Panda - @juniped Juni is a newcomer to the World Juniors team, but a welcome addition! Juni has great hands - amazing puckhandling combined with a deadly deceptive shot - and is a very slippery player to shadow for opposing forwards, allowing Juni to get open to put shots on net! Kwame Dakari - @Zaitsev Kwame Dakari hails from Accra, Ghana, and had a great S54 season with the Carolina Kraken who are currently in the conference finals of the Four Star Cup after beating out the St. Louis Scarecrows in 7 games. Kwame contributed 31 points this season, with 18 goals and 31 assists, and had an excellent plus-minus with a +24. Alexander Oscarsson - @Zema Alexander Oscarsson is another young Swedish prospect coming back for his second shot at the World Juniors gold medal. The 6 ft, 200 lb winger is a talented playmaker with a keen eye for setting up his teammates. He’s deceptively quick for a big player, often catching defenders looking to take the body off guard. We’re glad to have him back for a second year! Yngve Simonsson - @JumpierPegasus A new Swedish player, Yngve is a promising prospect who leans towards the more offensive side of the ice. With a set of great physical tools, Simonsson promises to develop into a skater that will be hard to contain and can cause a great deal of chaos on the offensive side of the ice. Bjornoson Bjornosonson - @HyperboleJoe Defense Sven Yxskaft - @kenvald Sven Yxskaft is a versatile, dependable two-way defenseman who was the clear standout for the defensive squad in Vancouver, and was traded to the Carolina Kraken in order to give one last shot at chasing the Four Star Cup. This season was an excellent one for him as he put up 19 points, with 3 goals and 16 assists, including 8 powerplay points. Playing with fellow S52 defender Ulrik Bergstrom, Sven will be part of the first pairing which will see a lot of ice time! Ulrik Bergstrom - @Wiad Ulrik Bergstrom is another Swedish defensive prospect seeking one last chance at the Four Star Cup as he was traded from the Anchorage Armada to the Anaheim Outlaws. Putting up 16 points this season, Ulrik has been a defensive monster for Anaheim and chews up minutes in tough matchups. Alongside Sven Yxskaft, Ulrik will form the first defensive pairing and be leaned on in all situations. Emilia Bergman - @Renomitsu A Jönköping native, Emilia Bergman solidified her position as a true first-pairing defensewoman alongside fellow sophomore James Leblond, eating up minutes in all situations and being the more responsible part of the pairing. A stalwart defender, she can face off against anyone and keep them at bay, while still scoring points. This season, she is seeking her first Four Star Cup alongside a surging Anaheim team. Magnus Liljestrom - @roastpuff Back for his fourth time in a Tre Kronor jersey, Liljestrom unfortunately could not bring his Detroit Falcons team past the first round against powerhouse Newfoundland Berserkers, and will try to close out his time in the junior leagues with a World Juniors Gold. Although his season hasn’t gone as hoped, Liljestrom is still seeking to get something out of it. A two-way defenceman, Liljestrom doesn’t particularly stand out anywhere, but is able to slot up and down the pairings wherever he is needed - a true Swedish-army knife! Jöörgüštrâäd DuBølk - @MCP_ Another second-generation defense Swedish player alongside Joseph Fantobens, DuBølk has mitts that are silky smooth and the instinct in finding those seams to thread them through to his teammates. With a knack for creating offence, he is sure to give opposing team fits trying to contain him! Joseph Fantobens - @Fantobens An offensively-gifted defenceman, Joseph Fantobens improved for his sophomore season even though his points totals might not show it. Playing tougher minutes, Fantobens eventually ended up on the first pairing alongside Jack Kanoff, and played a large part on the second penalty kill unit. Part of the growing Swedish defense juggernaut, Fantobens will be a special player for years to come as David Fantobens was for the forward core. Rikard Bjerg - @AgentSmith630 Bjerg was a mainstay of the Maine Timber’s 2nd pairing and penalty kill, and had an excellent sophomore season with his team barely missing the playoffs. After playing forward for the last couple of WJCs, this time Rikard will play in his natural position of defense! Noah Nystrom - @LightningDragon Yompy Stearf - @ham Goal Jerry Huuveri - @Jerppu Jerry Huuveri has been a fixture in goal since he transferred over to become Sweden’s next starting goalie! Huuveri played the role of Colorado’s 1B goalie this year and started 21 games for the Raptors, with a 9-10-1 stat line. Thor Odinson - @"feeler" Thor has been kindly loaned to us from Team World for the duration of the WJC. Thor finished the season with the Detroit Falcons posting excellent numbers, with a 2.52 GAA and 0.919 save percentage. That concludes our announcement for today, but stay tuned for more news for Team Sweden WJC! We are excited, and sure that this team is going to go far in the World Junior Championships!
