#1
(This post was last modified: 09-10-2020, 05:45 PM by Leppish.)

For my second deep dive I will describe Tiber's playoff path to grand finals. They finished regular season on 6 place, 3rd in east division with 'only' 53 points, that is 23 points less than their final rivals Newfounland Berserkers.

Round 1 vs Detroit Falcons (4-0)
First game was a 2-1 home overtime victory. Kyle Sutton scored game winning goal with his 5th shot of game in 39th second of overtime, earning him 1st star of match. Both teams had 33 shots on goal so we could say it was a bit lucky first win.
Second home game brought decisive 6-3 win. Detroit fired more shots (35-29), but their goalie Odinson had really bad day with 0.793 save percentage. It was 3 point game for Maine players Seppanen (2G, 1A) and Ball (1G, 2A), both having +/- at +4.
First away game ended with 3-1 win. Steppanen opened scoring in 10th minute of first period, Williams tied it in 9th minute of second period, 13 seconds later Kalashnikov gave Maine another lead and in 2nd minute of 3rd period Johansson finished the job with shorthanded goal. Windsor blocked 6 shoots and Kalashnikov was the only penalized player for Maine with 4 PIM.
Last, 4th game of series was 4-3 away win. Sutton was first star of this match with 1 goal and 1 assist. Marshall added 2 goals, Stromberg aslo had 2 points game with goal and assist.

Quarter finals vs Anchorage Armada (4-3)
First game was 3-1 away victory. Armada fired 43 shots (Maine 29) but 3rd star of the match Bloomfield stopped 42 of them (SV%: 0.977). First star of game was Seppanen with 2 goals. Shepherd's 81.2 faceoff win percentage is also worth mentioning.
First playoff lose came in 2nd away game: Maine lost 3-5. Shots were quite evenly distributed (36-38), in whole game there was only one two minutes penalty (Hammarberg). Seppanen continued to score with his 6th goal in 6 matches.
First home game in quarter finals brought another loss to Maine (3-4). In 7th minute of overtime 51st Anchorage's shot on goal (Maine only had 20) was converted to 4th Anchorage goal by Biscuit. After 1st period Maine was in lead 3-0. Maine had big advantage in winning faceoffs (45 - 27), defender Windsor had unbelievable 100 DGR (88 GR) with awesome statistics (1G, 1A, +2, 4 SOG, 5BS, 1TK). But all this didn't help at losing to disciplined Armada again with no penalty minutes.
After four games, Maine was 1-3 behind. This time they had lost at home with 5-6. Armada again outshooted Maine with 45-26 and only had 3 giveaways, Maine had 16. After score 5-5, game winning goal was scored less than 3 minutes before the end by Rasanen (his first goal in playoffs). Maine's Oscarsson had 3 points game with one goal and two assists.
In 5th game Timer players really stepped together and got big 5-1 away victory. Goalie Bloomfield stopped 33 out of 34 shots, Thomas scored shorthanded, Sutton (2G, 1A) and Sondergard (1G, 2A) had 3 points game. Again Timber won much more faceoffs (37-20), most of the credit goes to Stromberg (12-6) and Hammarberg (10-2)
6th game went to overtime after regular period ended 4-4. Shepherd scored in 9th minutes of overtime and tied series to 3-3. Sutton again had 2 goals and 1 assist and Windsor blocked 6 shots.
Decisive 7th game was almost a copy of 5th game. Timber played got 5-1 victory on away ice. Shots on goal were tied at 30, faceoffs were 34-15 for Timber. Again only 2 PIM in whole game (Shepherd). Two goals for Stromberg and two assists for Sondergard.

Conference finals vs Kelowna Knights (4-3)
First game was 4-1 away victory. First goal in playoffs for Hobbes and Baranov (EN), Sutton scored his 10th in playoffs and Sondergard added one. Leo Bloomfield also had great game stopping 32 shoots (SV%: 0.970).
Second away game went to overtime (2-2) and after one and a half minute Goodname brought first victory for Knights. Knights had 30 hits but no penalty minutes, while Maine had 15 with 4 penalty minutes. As usual Sutton scored a goal and Johansson got another. Shepherd assisted at both goals.
There was an interesting turnaround in 3rd game. Maine outshooted (34-23) Kelowna but lost 2-5. Maine again dominated at faceoffs (43-25), but also in penalty minutes (16-2) thanks to 12 PIM from Marshall. Sutton was without a point, Baranov (1G, 1A) and Windsor (2A) contributed at both goals. Kalashnikov had 6 hits.
Maine won 4th game 2-1. Hobbes and Kalashnikov scored, Bloomberg had 0.969 SV% and Windsor blocked 9 shots. This time Maine lost faceoff battle (22-32). I don't know what happened on left side of Maine defense but average defensive game rating of Maine's three LD was 97 (Sondergard and Windsor at 100 and Bjerg at 91)!
Game 5 ended with 4-4. A little more than 11 minutes of overtime was needed to get a winner, Keahi secured win for home team Knights with his 6th playoff goal. Sutton got 2 goals and 1 assist.
When it matter the most Maine players stepped together again and in 6th game at home ice won 6-0. That was first playoff shootout for first star of the game Bloomfield who stopped all 27 shots, Maine fired 26. 3 points in this game for Hammarberg (2G, 1A, +/- at +4) and Ball (1G, 2A, 15 PIM), 2 goals for Stromberg, Sutton had 0 points and LD Bjerg had 100 defensive game rating.
Do or die game, and a decisive 4-1 away Maine victory after trailing 0-1 after 2 minutes. Again shots were almost even with (32-33), last goal was scored by Sutton into empty net 5 seconds before the end (14 goals in playoffs). Kalashnikov with +/- at +3 and Bloomfield with SV% 0.970 are worth mentioning.

Now let us see how underdogs Maine will cope with big favorites Newfoundland in big finals.

Approved! +5 TPE @JstMaro
