Hudson Hits a Holiday Hot Streak
#1

KTEX Sports Desk

It's been a solid, if unremarkable, rookie campaign for the Texas Renegades' Eric Hudson.  Averaging about a half a point a game for the resurgent, playoff bound Renes.  But, for about a seven game stretch, bookending the the Christmas Break, Hudson caught fire and put on a show, bringing cheer to the fans and demonstrating why the Renegades drafted Hudson early in the second round of the SHL Entry Draft.

It started with the December 18th game when the Expansion Atlanta Inferno visited Texas, in the midst of a 6 game home stand.  Eric picked up 2 assists in that game, a 7-2 Texas win.  The first came on the opening goal of the game, scored by Josef Kubinec while the second came in the 3rd period on an insurance goal by fellow rookie Burlock Sulfurgold.

The next night, the San Francisco Pride came to town. Eric tallied 3 points in this game, all on the first three goals of the game as Texas jumped out to an early lead.  Hudson put home the first goal of the game 47 second after the opening whistle.  Eric then picked up the primary assists on the second and third goals of the game, all within 6 minutes to put Texas out to an early 3-0 lead.  San Fran would fight back, although they could never tie the game as Texas went on to win 5-3, sending the fans home extremely happy going into the teams 8 day break. Hudson was awarded the first star of the game for his efforts putting Texas out front early in the game.

After the Christmas Break, Texas continued their home stand against the Edmonton Blizzard on December 27th.  Unfortunately, Texas would loss the game 7-3 against one of the toughest teams in the league, but Eric managed to pick up an assist in the lost and stretch his points streak to 3 games, 6 points in 3 games. Eric also flexed his defensive side in this game with 3 blocked shots and a hit in the loss.

Two nights later, the Tampa Bay Barracuda came to town to finish the home stand.  Hudson was a little snakebitten in this game with only 1 shot on goal and 0 points, despite Texas winning 5-1.  The next game, a close 3-2 loss to the upstart Seattle Argonauts, also saw Hudson get handcuffed a bit with 0 points and 0 shots on goal.  But, the hot streak wasn't quite over just yet.

On January 3rd, the Renegades travelled to Edmonton to avenge the December 27th loss, and avenge it they did. Texas won the game 4-1, although Edmonton didn't score until there was about 3 minutes left in the game and it was already all but decided. Hudson picked up a goal and an assist in the game, both in the second period.  Eric assisted on an early second period goal by superstar Andreas Kvalheim and then scored a goal himself late in the second period to give the Renegades a 3-0 lead. Hudson was once again awarded the first star of the game, with an assist on the game winning goal and an insurance goal to put the game away.

Two nights later, Texas would return home to face the Seattle Argonauts once again. This time Texas would end up on the right side of another close 3-2 game.  Hudson would pick up an assist on the game winning goal, scored by Josef Kubinec with just 36 seconds remaining before the game went to OT. It would be Hudson's 16th assist of the season.

Despite the mini slump in the middle, Eric Hudson would put up 9 points in 7 games during his hot streak.  Hudson also stayed true to his two-way nature, not neglecting his defensive responsibilities either.  Eric managed 12 blocked shots, 4 hits and a +5 rating in the 7 game stretch.

As the season comes to a close, the Renegades have 3 games remaining. With 47 games played, Eric Hudson is currently sitting at 24 points, tying his second best season ever, his second season with the St. Louis Scarecrows in the SJHML.  His best season ever was 33 points, which is likely out of reach, but one more point would move this into his second best season.
