The Kelowna Knights have been lighting up the league recently, winning 32 of their first 57 putting them at 2nd in the West. The biggest reason for their success: Kelowna is riding behind two amazing goalies. Their first goalie, Peter Ramsey, has been arguably the best goalie in the league. He also won 17 of 32. 4 of his losses have come in overtime. Ramsey’s GAA is at 2.22 right now, which is the 2nd best in the SMJHL. He also has a save percentage of .923, which is also second best in the league. Ramsey has had 4 shutouts so far this season, third most in the J. You would think Kelowna would ride behind Ramsey until his wheels came off because of how strong he has been, but they haven’t had to. This is because their second netminder, Damien Vertigo, has been a solid second option for Kelowna. He has played 29 games and won 15 with a save percentage of .911 which is tied for 10th in the league. With a GAA of 2.70 he has been able to save enough pucks for his team to come out on top most nights.

The Knights haven’t just been letting their goalies do all the work, however. Their skaters have been good as well. Kian Hamilton Jr. and Kynwyl Pearce have scored 15 goals each and Logal Wong has scored another 12. Chris Goodname has helped his team scoring 28 assists while Pearce has 27 assists. Brennan Huff has also netted twelve goals so far, including 2 shorthanded goals. Kian Hamilton Jr has blocked 123 shots which is fourth in the league, while Teddy park has the sixth most blocked shots in the league at 111. These two top shot blockers have lessened the load on their goalies, which is always a recipe for success.

All of these factors have led to Kelowna scoring 167 goals which is the 3rd most in the SMJHL, while they have allowed 144 goals, the 3rd least in the league. They’ve tallied 68 points, the fourth most in the league. While their division rival the Anchorage Armada are seemingly out of reach with a 9 point lead over Kelowna and the rest of the East, the Knights currently have a 2.5 game advantage over the Outlaws, the 3rd place team in the East. Their other divisional rival, the Vancouver Whalers, has been holding steady around a .500 win percentage through 55 games and Kelowna leads them by 10 points. These standings mean that for the rest of the season Kelowna will be focusing on maintaining their current momentum and preparing for the playoffs. Come playoff time, Kelowna is hoping their rookies will have enough experience that they will have four solid lines. Their goalies are already locked in and will be prepared to help the Knights make a deep run. While many expected this season would be one of rebuild for Kelowna, they have shown they are capable of playoff success and the future looks bright for the team as their players have a lot of potential.
