At the conclusion of the S57 season, the Berserkers saw most of their leadership group play their last game in Newfoundland and move on to the big leagues. Jonas Kahnwald (@Festinator) headlines a strong youth movement in the LAP defense, Liam Slate (@Tylar) joins an emerging TOR team where he’s become a favorite for the Jesster, and Lassi Suhonen (@teztify) will get to work on the title defense of the reigning cup champs in CHI. We couldn’t have asked for better leaders in the past season or two, and the team will miss their presence both on and off the ice (even though they’re not allowed to leave the LR). However, we feel like we have strong new candidates to carry the torch and lead us out of our rebuild.

The new Berserker’s captain was a unanimous choice among the advisory group, and is our only returning member of last season’s leadership. We’re thrilled to welcome the beeg yosh himself, Vaseline Podcalzone (@bdu754), as our newest captain. Beeg is easily the most wholesome and positive voice in our LR, is well liked by everyone, and is basically one big vibe factory. My day personally doesn’t start until we get the patented beeg ‘good morning zerkers’ wake up call. He’s our only remaining player from the S55 championship team, so we know he has the championship instinct to lead the team. We couldn’t be happier to have a guy like beeg to take the reins as our newest captain.

Now for the new guys. Our first new alternate captain is none other than Bas O’Bigbers (@Sopath). Ever since we drafted soap in the first round of the S56 EMJHL entry draft, he’s been a very welcome and entertaining LR addition. But more than just that, he’s been a tremendous help in scouting for Ham and I for our first two drafts as GMs. We’ve been thrilled with the players we’ve gotten and how they’re continuing to develop, and we owe a large part of that to his work, which he just volunteered to do without us even having to ask. It’s that kind of helpfulness and commitment to the team that won us over for his new role of alternate captain.

Keeping with similar trends as Bas, our other new alternate captain is also a first round pick from the S56 SMJHL entry draft, and also gives extra effort to help out the team. We’re happy to announce Matty Sandeen (@TheBigSandeenie) as our other new alternate. Matty is hands down the most dedicated player to the live sims, and can always be seen cheering on the team and in good spirits, even last season when those sims weren’t going our way. He’s the one who posts all the box scores and stats for people who couldn’t watch, and it's been a long time since we had a player who’s as dedicated to improving and researching his build and usage as much as Matty is.

It was no secret that last season was a rebounding period for a team that lost the majority of core from back-to-back finals appearances. We think we have a strong amount of young talent that will soon be ready to bring us back, and with these 3 guys, the right people to lead them. Go Zerks!
