It’s that time of season again, and as the dust settles on the drafts, the St. Louis Scarecrows are ready to name their letters for the S58 season.

Before that, though, we want to give one more round of applause (hopefully not the last, I’d like to do team awards this season but we all know that I'll probably forget) to our players that are being called to the SHL this season.

Nicolae Antonescu has been an excellent netminder and locker room presence for us. When he announced intent to enter the SMJHL draft, I was notified almost immediately by three different people that I Had to Pick Him. I’m eternally thankful that I listened. Budgie's probably one of the nicest people that I get to interact with on a regular basis. Thank you, Budgie! Good luck in San Fran!

Colin Lambert served as our Equipment Manager, Assistant Captain, Captain, Scout, and occasionally Colon Lampert. He’s sticking around the program as Head Coach, but he’s out of Scarecrow yellow unless we have an alumni game or something. He was my first draft pick as a GM and picking him was the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Thanks, Real Ham! Good luck in Tampa!



When we gave our 1st Assistant Captain his A last season, we knew he was promising but there were still some questions about giving an A to a rookie. It’s not something typically done in St. Louis. Assistant Captains are meant to be another resource for the team, someone to look to when times are hard or if players have questions they're not sure who to ask or aren't comfortable asking. It's a difficult thing to put on a rookie's shoulders, other sim experience or not. That said, this player rose to the challenge and has been an amazing locker room leader. He very deservedly was drafted 6th overall in the S58 SHL Draft, and we're excited to see what he has in store for this season and manyu more to come. We’re proud to announce that Friedensreich Hundertwasser is getting the world’s smallest promotion to our 1st Assistant Captain for Season 58!

Our Captain this season shouldn’t be a surprise. We traded up to 2nd overall to draft this guy in the S55 SMJHL Draft since we knew him as a mentor, a friend, and the ultimate Scarecrow Guy. If our Assistant Captains are the heartbeat, our Captain has been our courage. He challenges us to be better and to look forward to what's next unflinchingly. There's a certain bittersweetness to knowing that this is the only season he'll wear a C with us this time. If anyone is going to carry us this season, it'll be him. It is a great honor to introduce Xavier Doom as the Season 58 Captain of the St. Louis Scarecrows!

Now, there’s the matter of the new letter. When we were in talks last season to decide who should wear the 2nd A, we were already tight between our rookies Hunter Sharpe and Friedensreich Hundertwasser. And then Daryl Urquhart came in and made himself right at home too. Can’t miss Greg Davies and Jean-Locke Zidane either. Suffice it to say, the decision was no easier this season than it was last season. If anything, it was more difficult. We have a lot of good people in our locker room, and picking among them was difficult. Really, anybody on the team could be given this title and do pretty well in service. There was a lot of back and forth discussion between me and Sparky about who should wear A2 for the season over the last week. I think ultimately one has stood out as the compliment to Hundertwasser just a little more.

With that in mind, our 2nd Assistant Captain has been one of the biggest presences in our locker room. He comes in and makes himself known with zeal and enthusiasm. When it came time to choose him in the 2nd round of the S57 SMJHL draft, I don't think I've ever known Ham to be as certain about a pick as he was about this guy. It felt a lot like talking about so many of the other really good people we had brought in, just that warm-fuzzy good vibe. I'm glad I listened because he's been amazing. The St. Louis Scarecrows are proud to introduce Hunter Sharpe as our 2nd Assistant Captain for Season 58!
