Registered Lord of Lighting the Lamp S58 Colorado Raptors Captains
Following the end of S57, we lost 2 of our leaders on the team. Jed Mosley Jr. (@BasedMinkus), the Captain, was called up by the Manhattan Rage and Juni Panda (@juniped), the Alternate Captain, went on to Toronto North Stars. These 2 players were big parts of our team and both great leaders. We appreciate all the great things that they accomplish while in Colorado. We wish them the best in the future with their SHL careers. On our S58 roster we have a lot of great players that would be worthy of being captains. But there are a few that stand out. Here are the S58 Captains for the Colorado Raptors as voted on by the team. The Alternate Captains We had a tie for the 2nd Alternate Captain. And normally we would try to find a tiebreaker and give it to one of them. But in this case we felt both are deserving to wear the “A”. So we will have one be the Alternate Captain for away games and one be the Alternate Captain for the home games. We felt this was a good solution and a way to make sure to honor both players in the process. The 2 players to wear the “A” for these games are: Away - Basil Sivart (@Sivart): The 2nd year player has already shown great leadership in his first season with the Raptors and was clearly noticed by his peers. The S57 8th Overall pick has a good locker room presence and is a dependable player on the ice. It is always great to see players take on roles and Sivart fits right in on the leadership team. Home - Ren-Ekelemchi Shimizu-Okoli (@ProjectSaint): Ren-Ekelemchi Shimizu-Okoli, aka RESO, has been a Colorado locker room guy since before my time. He brings a lot of insight and knowledge to the table. RESO is a great locker room guy as well, and iis there to help out as much as he can. Whether it's gaming, helping management out, or just a guy to talk to. Glad to have him on the team. 1st Alternate Captain Noel Blanchet (@JT3): Another S57 SMJHL 1st round draftee, Noel Blanchet has risen above all expectations we had when drafting him. He had a great rookie season for us, scoring 31 points (7 goals and 24 assists). Blanchet also is a great help to fellow rookies and teammates, and another great source of knowledge. Noel Blanchet showed great leadership skills in the locker room and the team thinks so as well. We are proud to have you wear the “A”. The Captain Ruggs McOoooh (@Ruggsy): The sole returning player from the S57 leadership group. It would be one thing to be made a captain one year then skate on by using that accomplishment to hopefully receive votes next season. It is another thing to take that role and strive to be better. Well that is what Ruggs McOoooh did. He took his game to another level. His hard work and dedication is shown by being nominated for 2 awards in S57. The Zach Miller Trophy for the most dedicated player and the Alexis Metzler Trophy for best defensive defenseman. So it was no surprise that McOoooh was basically the unanimous choice for team Captain. We know that he will wear the “C” with honor and strive to be the best. Congrats to the S58 Colorado Raptors leadership group. We look forward to a great season. LET’S GO DINO GANG!! S57 Colorado Raptors Awards
The Troy McClure III Trophy - Awarded to the player that best exemplifies team leadership Winner - Jed Mosley Jr (@BasedMinkus) The Captain did everything that we could ask of him. He led the team extremely well while taking his game to the next level. Mosley Jr spoke up when it was needed and really led by example. (10 goals, 28 assists, 15 PP Points, 221 Shots) The Captain elevated every player's game while he was on the ice. A great testament to the Raptor leader. The Alexander Zajac Trophy - Awarded to the most dedicated player Winner - Ruggs McOoooh (@Ruggsy) Well it's hard to argue this one as noted above, Ruggs McOoooh was nominated for the SMJHL most dedicated player. So it is a no brainer that he receives the Colorado award for most dedicated. Ruggs has taken on a major graphics site job as well as joined the Colorado management team. He has also risen in our Colorado LR leaderboard rather quickly (I may have to start watching myself). A great user/player with tremendous dedication to the team and the league. The Colton Hagan Trophy - Awarded to the top two-way forward Winner - Juni Panda (@juniped) Juni F’n Panda. If I haven’t said it before or if you don’t know about him, this guy is a one man wrecking crew. An absolute unit on the ice. A big physical presence on the ice while also being a legit scoring threat as well. 22 goals, 21 assists, +24, 219 PIMS, 349 Hits. Panda played both on the PP and PK units. But mostly was our one of the main guys for the penalty kill. I can’t say enough good things about Juni Panda. The Bo Kane Trophy - Awarded to the top offensive forward Winner - Jarmo Kekalainen (@TheFlash) This was a close one. Ultimately we gave the nod to Jarmo Kekalainen as his stats were great offensively and exceeded our expectations. 22 goals, 60 points, +21, 193 shots, 18 PP points. He played just over 18 min/game and was a great feature on our powerplay. Honorable Mention: Josh Dolphin (@d0lph1nb0y) Josh Dolphin was the possible choice here. Kekalainen and Dolphin had almost identical seasons. Dolphin’s role was more of a team playmaker while Kekalainen was more offensive oriented. The Kristoffer Ruud Trophy - Awarded to the top defenseman Winner - Ruggs McOoooh (@Ruggsy) Ruggs McOoooh had a really good defensive season as seen by the SMJHL nomination for best defensive defenseman. McOoooh led all Colorado Defensemen with a +14. To go with that, he had 80 hits, a +11 turnover differential, 77 shots blocked, and a very respectable 72 season DGR. The Aleksandr Aleksandrov Trophy - Awarded to the top goaltender Winner - Yanno Rosejac (@Demolish) Colorado relied heavily on Yanno Rosejac during the season. And while that could have taken a toll on Rosejac, he rose to the occasion and played great the entire season. Yanno Rosejac played in 58 games for Colorado, which was 2nd most in the league, and won 30 games (tied for 3rd most). He posted a sub 3 GAA (2.88), .901 save percentage, and had 3 shutouts. Another great season for the 2nd year goalie. The Cassius Darrow Trophy - Awarded to the most outstanding rookie Winner - Noel Blanchet (@JT3) Colorado took Noel Blanchet with their first pick (6OA), and Blanchet showed why the GMs did. He scored 7 goals and had 24 assists (4th among rookies) totaling 31 points (5th among all rookies). The 2nd line rookie centerman also did really well at the faceoff dot, winning 53.1%. The Zinaida Titova Trophy - Awarded to the Seasonal MVP Winner - Josh Dolphin (@d0lph1nb0y) Now this award was hands down going to Josh Dolphin. Dolphin did absolutely everything. Every aspect of his game is among the top leaders. He led the league in assist (43) and PP points (29). He posted 62 points(2nd in league), a +18, won 61% of faceoffs (3rd in league), and showed that he was a dependable player at both ends of the ice. (67 OGR and DGR) Dolphin had overall one of the best seasons for Colorado in a long time. Definitely worthy of the Zinaida Titova Trophy. Scottey Crawfling Bowl - Awarded to the Playoff MVP Winner - Noel Blanchet (@JT3) Colorado had a tough go in the playoffs losing to Anaheim in 6 games. But in those 6 games, Noel Blanchet stepped up as a rookie to score 3 goals and 3 assists. He led the team in goals scored and kept us in a few games. A great effort by the rookie. Congrats to all the Season 57 Awards Winners!
