![]() SHL GM SHL GM
As a preface to this deep dive, I chose to review this draft as it was my first experience on the site, which was also a personnal first diving into an online english community. This draft felt unique to me because our GM, Kez (Muerto), drafted a lot of new users and many of those users had an impactful stay on the SHL even to this day. Finding all the old stats and hardware earned for every player would take ages so I will try to go with my personal appreciation of each players and notable highlights for all of them.
The first draftee, with the 6th overall pick, was Kristian Eriksson from user Raymond3000. He was one of the few recreate in our locker room but what a veteran to look up to. An award is now named after his former player and expectations were high for Kristian Eriksson. He delivered as he entered the Hall of Fame, won a challenge cup (S35) with Toronto, the team that drafted him, and many indivudal awards. Top tier player, top tier teamate. The 2nd pick, at 7th overall, was Kari Kekkonen. User Wannabefin no longer needs an introduction to anyone on this site. Even as a new user he was poised to become an active member of the community as he quickly grew affinities with many other users. He was drafted by West Kendall platoon and retired a bit prematurely to get a fresh start. At 11th overall, Kelowna drafted Aston Martin. He went inactive and not much is to be said about him. In the 4th round, at pick 19, Knights hit a homerun and drafted what could be one of the most impactful user from that draft class, at least in terms of involvement. Jackson Rogers-Tanaka, JRT, was an exceptional Defenseman and also turned out to be an awesome junior GM and was also involved in Edmonton's management for a while. The Blizzard drafted him 16th OA. He got inducted into hall of fame at season 38 with the S28 challenge cup as well as many All-Stars selections. I am not sure if he is still active these days, I think he wanted to join the armed force which may take quite of his time. He also led the Knights to an overdue championship as a GM shortly after our junior careers ended. Next up was Andrew Gilmore, I don't recall much from him but he had a short presence on the site. The Knights then drafted Mikko Koskinen. user Grimmsterj was also quite active during his stay. He got drafted 9th overall by Seattle in the SHL , the highest picked Knight during that draft. He got traded from the team after his first season, for icetime issues I believe. He was more of a defensive forward, having a reputation for not being a good finisher. In the following rounds, this is where the Knights got deep effing value from this draft. They went on and selected Toki Wartooth (this is me btw) (36th), Barney Stinson/Narconis at 38, Keith Trubachev at 47 and Chester Cunningham at 50. While Wartooth and Trubachev went on with okay careers in the SHl afterwards, Stinson and Cunningham remained active members of the community for much longer. However, all 4 were max-earners during the SMJHL sting which led to bitter disapointment when that core couldn't manage to win it all during any of their season. Barney stinson was drafted 17th OA by Toronto, along with Wartooth at 21st and Cunningham at 31. Toronto had already drafted Eriksson in that draft and the Knights connection was real. Sadly, Wartooth went inactive before becoming an impactful player. Barney Stinson was inducted into Hall of fame S42 class, with many individual awards but unfortunatly no cups. Narconis is still an active user of the site and is recognised as top player on teams he plays for. Chester Cunningham had an exceptional international career with Norway, winning a total of 6 medals and being named top forward twice. He is still active to this day. The drafted ended with the Knights picking Merit Csonka and Sparky Chewbarky and Craig Wall. Despite having good names, I can't recall much about these players. TL;DR Knights drafted 5 legendary users, 3 of those ending up hall of famers, and a couple of really active guys who went inactive only after their SMJHL career was over. The only sad thing was this group failing to win a cup as the core was earning lots of TPE and also had good locker room chemistry. 10/10 draft. Approved! +5 TPE @micool132 Character Page RD- Quarterback ![]() Retired players: -Toki Wartooth -Nathan Explosion btw -Angus McFife XVIII ![]() |
