S58 mPT #2 Most Important Stat
#16
(This post was last modified: 02-15-2021, 01:38 PM by notoriousTRON.)

Hey rookie! What do you like most about watching hockey?
Scoring?
Snooze Fest!

Skillful skating?
Save it for Olympic figure skating.

Puckhandling?
I'll handle your puck.

Tactical management?
Nerd!

Big hits?
Getting closer...

Fighting is the answer that I was looking for. Fighting is what makes hockey hockey. The same is true in the SHL. If you want to make an immediate impact in this league, you'll do it with your fists. Fighting has been completely ignored by the majority of the sheep on this site which creates an opportunity for those with brains big enough to see it. Pump as much TPE into fighting as you can and watch as your teammates begin scoring goals left and right due to opponents being afraid to touch them. You can be the greatest enforcer in SHL history. Your fake hockey player will get all the girls and GMs will be tripping over themselves to draft you and sign you to huge contracts to enable their skill players to score.

You can thank me later (after you've obviously won a Four Star Cup, WJC & IIHF gold, and multiple Challenge Cups). When you do, I'll tell you to pass along the knowledge that I gave you today and in the process make the SHL a better place filled with more fun hockey.

I can only help with goalie builds and the first thing I would do is to invite that goalie into our exclusive goalie lounge (and be surprised why they weren't in there already) because that's where we help each other with build questions. Then I would say "positioning".

I know nothing about the sim so I can't really tell you which stat is the one you want to focus on, but if I had to guess I would say shooting accuracy. Nothing beats a well aimed shot let me tell you so why not go with that

Now listen here young rookie. There isn't one most important stat. The most important thing when joining the J is to spread the love. You want to be better at hits, fighting and shots - strength is a great one. You want to reduce your giveaways? I'm told balance is an excellent stat. You want to get more ice time without dropping in skill? Bump your stamina boy.
You want to be better on the breakaway? Why not dabble in speed and acceleration!
Want to get more hits and in more fights - up your aggression. And those are just the physical attributes.
As for the others I feel offensive and defensive read alongside positioning are fantastic places to start with your TPE grind. But most importantly speak to your GM/coach I'm still new... Probably not your best bet speaking to me!

When I got into this league, I was told that balanced builds are normally the best way to build a good player in the SHL, but if you think about it, the whole point of hockey (sports in general) is to score more points (goals in this case) than the other team. So, if we narrow that down, offense is more important, and if you want to narrow it down even more, if you can't get the puck on the net, does it really even matter? With all that being said, clearly Shooting Accuracy is the most important stat, because if you can't get the puck in the net, then you can't score and Shooting Accuracy is the most important at get pucks at/in the net.

Disclaimer - None of the above is build advice. Do your own research.

For each category I like

Offense: Puckhandling, nice possession stat that helps you contribute a lot more offensively all around.
Defense: Defensive Read, helps you make the right plays on the defensive end and be reliable at the back.
Physical: Strength, helps you keep possession of the puck and win battles, unlike in STHS where it was useless.

The most important stat isnt any attitude but the friendships we made along the way! Okay all kidding aside I don't really know, but as a scoring forward my favorite kinda is "Offensive Read". Knowing how to read the game and to react to all situations that can present themselves to you is such an important skill any in my opinion even more important than high end puck skills or a dynamite shot.

There is one thing that is the most important: Fighting. You have to be able to stick up for yourself on the ice. My player, Travis Konecny, sucks at fighting and as a result he can just get beat up all day and night. Spend all your beginning TPE on fighting

It depends on the player and what they want to do. In general, though, I tend to recommend Passing. In STHS, Passing affected your ability and willingness to pass the puck, which could make it detrimental to forwards with more of a scoring focus. In FHM, by contrast, it affects the player's ability to send and receive passes and inclination is dictated more by tactical sliders. This makes Passing a very, very adaptable skill to have.

Bad skater? Pass it. Defensive Defenseman? Pass it. Playmaker? Pass and receive it. Sniper? Receive it. Speedy Forward? Receive it.  It doesn't matter where on the spectrum of priorities the player fits, they can and will still need to be able to pass the puck and receive passes in kind. The only skill that might come close in priority is Puckhandling, but even then, a defensive player can get away without having silky mitts. That player will need the Passing skill to get the puck to somebody who can find the net.

Just like in life, the most important stat is Team Player. If you can't lean on your friends and teammates when you need them, how will you get anything done at all? Everyone wants to be Wayne Gretzky, but even Wayne played on teams. In fact, without a team, I'd venture to say that Wayne wouldn't have gotten any points at all! So make sure to get your Team Player stat up to about 18 before you increase anything else!

Puckhandling and it isn't particularly close. You want to be a red-hot goal scorer? Have to be able to handle the puck. Trying to make your name as one of the top setup players in the league? Hope you can handle the puck well. Want to be a power forward who is a menace on both ends? Better be able to control the puck on the ice. Defender? Without being able to be in charge of the puck, you're dead weight. No matter what your position and player's ultimate goals, you absolutely have to be able to receive passes, advance the puck down the ice, find other teammates, or hammer the puck on the net. Constantly turning the puck over is a great way to end up on the bench and in your coach's bad graces. I mean let's be honest - what's hockey if not being able to skate with the puck at a high level?

1 stat? NO NO NO. 2 need attention. Strength and Stamina are incredibly important no matter what kind of build your player is going for. Spread those TPEs out over all the stats to make him well rounded. But get that Stamina up to 13 and that strength up to 12 immediately. With such a tightly packed schedule, you need your players conditioning to be high so he or she can play all the b2b games efficiently. What good is shot accuracy if you cant even skate to the puck? How are you going to hold onto that puck if you dont have the strength to defend yourself from the opposition? Dont be a scrub, get those stats high.

if you are not upping agression to 20 right away then you can get the fuck out of my league. We dont need simps going out there trying to "score goals". Get some hits and go home

the most important stat is endurance and i am now going to tell you why i think that. you have to have endurance to skate on the ice, if you are not on the ice you are not playing hockey

I’m not sure if you mean stat or attribute, but you can’t go wrong with offensive or defensive read..being able to read the rink to put yourself in good situations on both ends of the ice seems like a great starting point/foundation to build around.
