S58 mPT #2 Most Important Stat

The most important stat is obviously scoring accuracy, everyone wants to score goals so it makes sense! Seriously though i don't think theres one stat thats the "most" important, getting a balanced build is more important for overall success.

The most important stat is without a doubt agility. All physicals are important but all player types need agility. Since it helps you to either avoid getting hit or making it easier to get hits in, it is clearly one of the best allround stats to invest in.

The most important stat to build into to me is Offensive Read, because defense is overrrated as far as I'm concerned. I would tell them upfront that I'm certainly biased, but I think it's more fun to go down the offensive star route. You know what they say, offense is the best defense? If I didn't pick Offensive Read as the best stat, it would be something like Getting Open or Shooting Accuracy, also some of my favorites. Some reasonable people might claim that defense wins championships and you have to be able to play a 200-foot game, backcheck, have good positioning and all of that. But nobody has ever accused me of being reasonable, oh no.

What shows up on the stat line, what is flashy, and what will put your name on the scoresheet are your offensive abilities. That is how you make the highlight reels, and especially if I am talking with a new player, that is what will keep them around. They'll have a tangible way of seeing themselves progress to a Nikita Kucherov-esque, 40 goal scoring generational talent. They'll get top line time, prestigious draft selection, and power play time. If you really focus on offense, you can win awards like MVP and get records. You won't win MVP for being a two-way player, the one who gets the recognition is the one who homes in purely on scoring. There aren't enough pure goal scorers out there, and it is the fun sort of hockey to watch.

I could give some nods to physical ratings though with how important that speed is in the modern game. The current SHL is all about speed; if you can't skate, you belong in another era of hockey, plain and simple. You will get left behind and left in the dust if you can't keep up with the young speedsters and nimble danglers. If you can't beat them, join them. I would certainly give some secondary preferences to things like speed and acceleration.

And of course, hockey is a physical game, as much as the pro leagues seem to sadly be moving away from that "hit em hard, bloody em up, goon it up" style. Checking is just a ton of fun, and a lot of coaches think it's important. Especially with the recent transition toward most teams deploying an agitator in their lineup, it is a more viable play style than a lot of folks think. If I was forced to not focus on offense, well if that user is insistent on playing a non-sniper game, I would totally tell them to go for that bruiser build. Any real hockey fan loves that stuff.

Definitely balance and strength are important with the physical style making a comeback and showing up in a lot of high TPE players' builds now. You have to be able to stay on your skates to make it to the net and score, or to deliver some big retaliatory hits yourself. Nobody wants to be a wimpy pushover, if you want to do that go play soccer and flop around like a fish every time someone touches you. This is a sport for the real tough fellows, so tough it up and learn to take a hit. Else you will not make it a day.

Really, as much as I idolize and adore scoring, you cannot say just to spec into one attribute. You have to be able to diversify and build up some other stuff to be able to rack up points, just having a monster shot and a mind for scoring won't be enough by itself. People do sadly know how to counter it, and as fun as wide open, 80s style high scoring hockey would be, you have to be able to adapt to the way things are now. So my advice would be to prioritize Offensive Read, secondarily shooting accuracy, and on a tertiary level, to go for the physicals and checking. Tunneling on one thing would be detrimental to this new person's game, and while I'm happy if they're trying to go for a specialist build like my player Ola Wagstrom has, even Wagstrom has had to start building up a little more than just scoring.

This player will need to be the most effective version of themselves and see some results to stay motivated with updating. I'll encourage them along this route, which is the fastest one to success, but they need to know to stay the course and not give up if they aren't immediately taking the league by storm. We all have to do our time to achieve greatness; it is a marathon, not a sprint, and in reality, they don't have to take my advice. They can be any sort of player they want, they can focus on any attribute they like, they don't need to listen to what I or anyone says is most important. And that brazen individualism is what makes this league great at the end of the day.

As a former J GM, I could on for this forever, honestly. Really depends on what exactly you want to build, but I think Stamina ends up being a thing you keep a check on on pretty much anyone, since while not 1000% important, it's a very universally useful stat for pretty much any player.

Im probably the least qualified person they should be asking, but I would probably pick getting open. I like the idea of being the trigger man on a line so being able to find some open space for your teammates to get you the puck is pretty important.

The obvious answer is stamina, if this stat is not around 16-17 by the time you have started in the SHL, you are going to be wholly ineffective as a player. If not stamina, the answer is strength, holding onto the puck will be huge for your own stats and team success.

Shooting all shooting, you dont need any passing to be able to make it in this league. You want goals you got em bubs, just dont put any tpe in passing.

I got a NEED.... a NEED FOR SPEED. Gotta be fast, player go zoom zoom. Zoom past your opponents and score the goals in the empty net. breakaway goal yaas

Stick check because it's always good to be checking your stick. Poke check for goalies because it's always good to be poking your stick.

Or at least that's what @Clean Andrei Kostitsyn told me.

Without a doubt I think the most important stat to build into for any player has to be stamina. I've seen too many times where a team is struggling and exhausted from players having low fitness in game, thus resulting in poor on ice performance. However, in addition to stamina which should be a priority for all player, I have averaged the current player attributes in the SHL for centers, wingers, defenseman and goaltenders. This shows the most common attributes for each of these roles and I have outlined the top 3 for each one below.

Centers
For centers, they are typically more even with their attribute distribution. They appear to have more defensive contributions compared to wingers, and more offensive capabilities compared to defensemen. It definitely makes sense since they're expected to be winning faceoffs on both ends of the ice and can't be a liability in those cases. From current ratings, their top 3 attributes are found to be more offensive though in Puckhandling, Offensive Read, and Passing.

Puckhandling - For centers, this makes sense to prevent other teams from being able to strip you off of the puck and allows you to carry the puck more easily.
Offensive Read - As mentioned, centers do play a more two-way role according to the averaged attributes, but ultimately they are still a forward and expected to be more useful in the offensive zone.
Passing - Based on this, it seems that more centers in the league would be passers while their wingers would do all the scoring. The roles can reverse; however, I think it is useful to know that when you're building a center, expect to be doing the passing because it seems that is what is typically expected.

Wingers
Wingers are definitely a lot more offensively minded compared to centers. Although, they are expected to be the scorers more often currently in the league. Therefore, their top 3 attributes are Offensive Read, Puckhandling, and Shooting Accuracy in that order.

Offensive Read - Compared to centers, since wingers are more offensively minded and expected to shoot a lot more, it makes sense for them to have higher awareness in the offensive zone and to be able to receive passes well for shots.
Puckhandling - This seems to be less important compared to with centers as I mentioned because wingers are expected to shoot more and thus not needing to be able to keep the puck as well as centers.
Shooting Accuracy - This is definitely the defining feature of wingers is their shot accuracy. The team expects them to be scoring goals and this attribute is needed for that.

Defensemen
Defensemen have the important role of shutting down the opposition and this is shown in their top 3 attributes of Defensive Read, Checking, and Puckhandling.

Defensive Read - Similar to wingers, it makes complete sense for defensemen to have better awareness in the defensive zone to be blocking shots and cutting passes, preventing scoring chances from the other team.
Checking - Checking is the attribute that allows defensemen to be closely following the opposition with the puck, therefore pressuring them into mistakes or passing. Compared to shotblocking and stickchecking, this is more effective in getting the puck.
Puckhandling - A common attribute among all skaters as puckhandling is very important for defenseman and skaters alike to not lose the puck and cause turnovers.

Goaltenders
Goaltenders are a bit different however they too have their own top 3 attributes of Positioning, Reflexes, and Recovery.

Positioning - This is definitely the clear #1 attribute for goalies as it allows them to get square to the puck, in the best angle to make a save.
Reflexes - After being in position, goalies must be able to respond quickly to shots which explains why reflexes is the 2nd highest attribute for goalies.
Recovery - Following positioning and reflexes, goalie attribute averages take a bit of a drop to recovery which basically positioning following a save.

Thanks to @DELIRIVM, @Moreorless89 and @ValorX77 for the sigs!

I would say fighting is the most important stat because fighting is the mist important part of hockey. A plater who can fight well goes above and beyond what a normal hockey player can do

The most important stat is, without question, strength. FHM does not indicate any difference between physical strength and strength of character, which means putting points into strength makes you both strong and a better person than your opponents

i would tell them to ask someone else because i have no idea. but if i was the only person available i guess i would say something like stamina or defensive ready or stick checking

I think the most important stat is getting open. Making sure you're ready for the pass and fooling the opposition is the best thing that you can do to get your team to score.

Bravery and Aggression are the most important stats. If you gotta pick just one to build, it's gonna be Bravery. If you can be the most brave block head on skates, anything is possible.

Block a shot? Gotta be brave

Rush to the net to score a slick goal? Gotta be brave

Your buddy needs to be toweled off after the big game? Gotta be brave

Want to rock the sickest celly? Brave boys only.
