The biggest storyline in SMJHL is of course that will Quebec City Citadelles achieve 50 wins this season. Last year they achieved 49 wins and fell one short from that magical number of 50 mainly due to too many shootout losses. This year Citadelles has 18 wins from 23 matches. They have already three losses after overtime and only two losses on regulation. Winning percentage is 84,8% which means that Quebec City is so far on pace for 50+ wins but is the team able to keep that trend or will they eventually fell short again? That is a very interesting storyline to follow when season goes on and on and on. If I have to guess, they will achieve 50 wins this time. It would be heart-breaking if they won't. Citadelles have great goalkeeping duo, solid defence and enough talented forwards who can score needed goals in tight matches. My guess is Quebec City will win exactly 50 matches this year.

I think that for me, the biggest storyline has to be the mystery of why Texas's third line is playing so out of its damn mind. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of great guys playing on the team's third line and they're all incredibly talented with seriously bright futures in the league, but given their TPE levels I didn't really expect to see the level of return from them that we have. The third line has been absolutely dominant, with the player centering it, Edward Williams, currently sitting second in the entire league in points at the time of writing. This is honestly for me, a really fun storyline to watch because I feel like FHM has kinda not really given the chance for someone you don't expect to come out of nowhere and have an amazing season like this yet, so seeing the guys who weren't expected to be big names do what they've been able to so far is a lot of fun. I'm hoping that the third line continues to play out of its mind and by the time we come to the playoffs, they help propel the team to a deep run this season.

Well, I do not know what the absolute biggest is past a handful of teams shocking or crippling peoples casino bets but for me the biggest news is my future. If I am honest, I feel lost. I just do not know what to do now. I am like 33% wanting to retire and end this cursed career, 33% wanting a new team to keep things fresh and the final 34% just staying and continuing with the Blizzard. It's just something I do not know what to do and this season is just not going well for me either.

It is not the biggest storyline since I was bullshitted in awards but what can you do. HoF is probably dead so maybe I should just try to piss off as many teams as possible. I think that would be fun. But yeah I do not have a conclusion for this storyline until much later on. I guess we will see at the end.

Well as the CO-GM in St. Louis. I am so proud of this team this season! We have nine Season 59 Rookies on this team. They have been playing well. We are here sitting at fourth in the conference and ninth in the league... only through 21 games. But our rookies update more, they will get better and better. We will be putting our name in the hat come playoff time, look at for the SCARECROWS!!! This team is very fun and active in the Locker Room, and that is what I like to see. As the Co-GM I have been seeing the rookies grow from little crows to BIG scary crows.

Now.. on to Winnipeg. I have been seeing flashes of greatness in our NEW Winnipeg Aurora. We have been trying to put the puzzle back together after last season and getting to the semis of the Challenge Cup. We have a young group, but the Veteran presence is there and they are helping the young players try and thrive. Zakkira Diporov is on the second line with Zelma and Goku and this line has potential to be a very scary line. But Zakkira is not performing well. Lets hope he can bounce back as the season goes on.

One of the most important metrics on a team, can not be determined solely by getting on the score sheet or by making a pass to the team's best player. Nor can it be tracked by hoisting up a trophy at the end of a season. This storyline involved extended time in the weight room and sweating out all that you've got as a player.

DeMaricus Smyth on the Atlanta Inferno is shining bright this season with 150 hits through 24 games played. That is roughly an average of 6 plus hits a game that Smyth is laying down on his opponents. The next closest players only have hits in the 80's. Smyth is a physical player, the likes of which this league does not see nearly often enough, as the focus is generally on slick puck and stick movements. But Smyth is keeping an old school component of this league together through forceful, glass shattering hits.

Now here is a story most of you people dont know that has happened and is happening at the time. Most of you might not know this about the Carolina Kraken, but after the departure of our S54 class members, Adam Friedland and Axel Foley, our defense started to lack very heavily. Take last season for example, our core defenders were on their second season at the time, capped at 350 TPE. Thats nothing when compared to many other team's defense, needless to say ours was absolute shite. Even on some paragraph our offense was ranked among the top-3, but our defense was ranked at the bottom 3, or even the worst defense in the league during last season. Many things have been taught by our managers and coaches, and now our defense is bolstering themselves bit by bit, and come next season mark my words, the Kraken will not have a crappy defense anymore. I will have you my word on that

The biggest Story line so far this season is the current ranking of the teams thus far. It is still too early to tell how the teams will rank once everything is set and done but at the moment we have some crazy surprises. In the east, the biggest suprise has to be the Toronto North Stars. From being nowhere as competitive last season to completely dominating this season is just crazy. They are actually ahead of the Steelhawks as we speak right now, which is not something many predicted. They do have a really nice roster with players like Bobby Lane, Adam Barron, Mika Kadinsky and who can forget Harry Carpet. Its impressive that Carpet stuck with the team so long to see them flourish like this. I believe he is the highest tpe ranked goalie in the entire franchise. Do i think their streak will continue? Yes, but i dont think they will finish ahead of Hamilton. The other surprise is in the west. The Texas Renegades are really ahead of their conference. Everyone thought it would be between Calgary and Edmonton to lead the West but this is incorrect. I don't think anyone predicted the Renegades to do this well. Some think its because they have an easier schedule early on and that is why they are currently ranked so high. I do think there is some truth to this because if you look at their roster, it is not as deep as some of the teams we have in this league. I personally think they are overperforming at the moment and could slow down.

I'm going to speak about my team, the Texas Renegades and how well they played thus far to start the season. Currently as I am writing this PT, the Renegades sit atop the Western Conference with a record of 19-4-0. Texas' Josef Kubinec leads the SHL in goals with 18 and Texas center Edward Williams is in 2nd in assists and points. Texas currently has two players in the top 10 for plus/minus and controls the most power play points in the league. Kavanagh and Goodman are holding their own between the crease and are helping the Renegades stay atop the conference. Did anyone predict that Texas would be this good this season? How far will they go in the postseason? I believe Texas has shown so far this season they have a great shot at a title run this season. They seem to be clicking on all cylinders and have all the promise for a long playoff run.

I think this season have given us some pretty nice stories so far, especially on a team level! Parity has been a major issue since our change to the new engine, but it feels like the changes we have made to deal with this issue are finally starting to have an effect and we've been seeing some encouraging signs this year that the league might become exciting and less predictable again. That doesn't mean however that there can't still be dominant teams and this season has seen their fair share of those so far as well. The coolest storyline of those has to be the Toronto Maple Leafs, who many people thought might be in the most unfortunate situation of them all this season, playing in by far the strongest division in the league with a real possibility of missing the playoffs because even though they are better than pretty much every out-of-division team in their Conference. And yet here they are, leading the East ahead of the expected favorites out of Hamilton, Chicago or Buffalo. Talking about Buffalo they've had a pretty interesting journey so far as well this season, losing pretty much every game in the first week of the season but winning basically every one since. And lastly we also have Texas who many expected to be good this season, but I don't think most people would've thought that they'd end up being quite as dominant as they look right now!

For me, being on Texas, I think one of the biggest narratives is whether or not our record is "for real" or not. We have the best points percentage in the league, however we undoubtedly play in a weaker conference-- which means we don't frequently have to test ourselves against the monstrosity that is the Great Lakes division. In fact I don't believe we've played Buffalo or Hamilton at all yet this season! We've played Chicago twice and they've (easily) bested us twice. We've played Toronto once and while we beat them fairly handily, that's not a large sample size.

We have an incredibly deep team that can score with all three lines, and that shows in our record. The scary part is that while it may translate to a President's Trophy and a league leading PTS%, it may still mean that we're bounced early by a powerhouse Great Lakes team that only came up short of us in the regular season because they had tougher competition on a regular basis. So while I'm confident in our team, our managers, our coaches, and our performance so far-- it nags at me that despite our success it could all come crashing down rather unceremoniously in the playoffs.

Chimkin Tendy has fallen back to Earth after posting insane numbers in the playoffs last season.
In the Season 57 Playoffs, Chimkin Tendy posted a goals against average of 1.86 and a save percentage of .926. In the regular season, his numbers weren’t far off with a goals against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of .920.

If you thought these numbers would not be sustainable, you’d be spot on. Chimkin Tendy was among the top of the list for goalies in virtually every stat last year, but this year is different. He is 10th in goals against average so far this year with 2.25, though 6 goalies above him have played 10 or fewer games. He dominated the win column last year, though this year so far he is in third place, though only one win shy of being tied for first.

It’s not all bad, though. Tendy still leads the league in shutouts (4, tied with Supernaw), and leads the league in save percentage with .927. Technically he’s behind Cannon but Cannon only played one game and stopped 20 of 20 shots but somehow got an overtime loss and didn’t get a shutout.

Will Tendy continue to suck a lot this season compared to last? Only time will tell.

Short of really diving in I'm going to take this one at surface level. Even with that being said I'm pretty sure it'd be hard to top this one. The Toronto North Stars. For years the stars have been a punching bag for the incredibly stacked Great Lakes division with season after season of losing records. But not this year. This year they're not only winning, but they're crushing it. 25 games in and they sit a top the ENTIRE league with a dazzling 20-4-1 and a very impressive goal differential of +43. For new comers it might just look like the Stars are good, which they are, but as someone that has been around here for a while now it's a huge shock to open the index and see the North Stars atop the standings. They've done a tremendous job of building a quality team and it's nice to see the merits of their work paying off. Here's hoping it's not a one and done season and the division gets even more competitive!

Thanks for the sig ragnar!

I don't know how I talk about a storyline without mentioning one I'm currently in the middle of! The Kelowna Knights came off a disappointing playoff performance last year, and made some moves in the off-season to gear the team up for an all-in drive for the Four Star Cup. So far this season the Knights (at the time of writing) are four points back from the league leading Citadelles, and are very close in the goals for/against category. It will be very exciting to see how things develop moving later into the year. At the end of the season, the Knights are going to lose many capped players to the SHL. While this may not be the end for the young core of the team, the window is almost shut for the older players about to make their big jump. I know that regardless of the outcome on the ice, we've had an absolute blast in the locker room. This team is special, and is full of some awesome people.

I have been focusing all my energy on the SMJHL this season, so I will focus my write-up about this season solely on that. I would have to say that the performance of our team, the Newfoundland Berserkers, is one of the biggest stories of the SMJHL this season. I was definitely not expecting us to have such success so early in the season. Part of that could be attributed to the fact that the Eastern Conference is weak this year. However, many people did not see this coming, ranking the Newfoundland Berserkers at 8th in the league power rankings to start the season. It's safe to say that those expectations have been exceeded so far, and I am hoping that the great performances can continue. Of course, regular season glory does not make much of a difference unless that performance is backed up by a strong showing in the playoffs.

I think the biggest story line right now is that Toronto is first in the Eastern Division! A team that has been struggling in the basement for so long had now all of a sudden risen up to be a top team in the league. And, they are doing it without Mika Kandinsky being the top scorer on the team! There is so much depth on this Toronto team and it is so well rounded. The entire team is active and they have an exceptional star goalie in Harry Carpet. This year it all clicked for them and they just took off with their success. I don't think many people saw this happening seemingly in overnight fashion for Toronto. It appears that their time is finally here and I do believe this is no fluke and that they will continue to be dominant for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.
