I have to say that the biggest storyline so far has to be the Toronto North Stars. They've been on the way up for some time by all accounts and being stuck in the division of death surely didn't help as they were unable to really make that incremental climb in the standings that helps to keep a rebuilding team focused. So far they have been fantastic and really exploded up from being a bottom dweller in the great lakes to a force to be reckoned with. I think when we look back in a few seasons time, S58 will be the clear turning point when Toronto's dynasty began in earnest and it is also probably going to be the last (if not one of the last) season where the old holdouts from the previous system keep the old power teams afloat. Its an exciting time for the SHL.
On a more personal level, I've been extremely excited with the production and play from San Francisco this season. The young players are doing great and I think there's even an argument for some possible individual awards this offseason if the team can keep things going at this pace.

Personally, I’m positively surprised for Toronto North Stars. It was the team in my opinion that always was struggling. Especially if I’m a person who still sees things like in S20’s. Despite they are 2nd in the eastern standings I see them as the main Challenge cup contenders for this conference. Hamilton is a strong team but frankly, none will notice them on top. If they fall then everybody is like woooooooow. I’m happy about Toronto how are things going there. I really like how they are playing and I hope they will keep up like this to show some good and exciting hockey. As a sad surprise for me are New Orleans Specters. Like 3 seasons ago they were unstoppable Specters machine go brrrrrrrrr. I mean many of You might know that they are not like used to be also in the last season but I never imagine them in the bottom. It makes me feel sad but somebody has to also in the last place.

There are a couple of storylines that we can look at in the league as of today, the first one being the rise of the Texas Renegades as a power in the West. Leading the league in goals for and against, the Renegades were already showing signs of greatness last season as their core of young players finally got into prime position to compete in the west. A lot can also be attributed to a weak division, with both New Orleans & San Francisco needing a serious rebuild but they’ve been winning against more than their division.
In the East, a very similar story is happening with the Toronto North Stars. A solid young team, in a brutal Great Lakes division that sees all it’s members with a higher point total than the Atlantic teams, Toronto is finally reaching their prime and is able to competing with Hamilton, Buffalo and Chicago. In what will be the tightest division of all for a long time still. The North Stars have as equal a chance as any of these to be first as to be last and miss the playoffs this year. (190 words)

Still being in the Juniors, the biggest storyline so far that I am seeing is how unbelievably dominant the Kelowna Knights are. Currently they sit at #1 in the West with 47 points. The #2 team behind them is Colorado with only 38. They have 13 less goals allowed than the next best defensive team, with 2 games less played. They sit at #2 in the entire league behind QCC (no shocker there that they still remain #1), but I don't know of anyone who saw this dominant play coming from them. I believe it was a couple days ago where during one of the sim days, they had 3 games. In those 3 games, they allowed 0 goals and scored (don't remember exactly) about 15. Being on the reigning championship team, I was not expecting to have such a dominant force in our division. Not to toot my own horn, but I believe a close runner up, for our team at least, would be my own (Binder) improvement during the offseason. Binder went from being an extremely glazed over 4th liner to a consistent playmaker on the top lines. Not quite point per game just yet, but after the most recent line shakeups, things are looking bright.

The biggest storyline is the playoff race in the great lakes division.
Every cup winner in the FHM era made it back to the finals the following season. Hamilton in seasons 53-54 and 56-57, New Orleans in seasons 54-55, and Buffalo in seasons 55-56. If the season ended today, the reigning champion Chicago Syndicate would not even be in the playoffs because they are last in the division right now. While the trend of making back to back finals appearances was unsustainable, I'm pretty sure it's very rare for a reigning champion to miss the playoffs. Toronto only won 6 games 5 seasons ago, now they find themselves in a playoff spot in a division where making the playoffs is really, really difficult. I don't think their roster is quite on the level of Hamilton and Buffalo just yet, but they have a very good team no doubt. Before the season started I would've still bet against Toronto making the playoffs but they have gotten off to a really strong start, so now I'd be surprised if they don't make it.

This season has started with surprises of its kind. There are separate teams from which more were expected and there are others who have been surprised so far. The surprise author is certainly a Toronto team that has shown a solid performance so far, but it hasn't really been with the leaders, but things have changed this season and the team is at the top of the table and fighting hard for a leader, it is very pleasing that there is another strong team that can compete for high ground. More might have been expected from the New Orleans team, which is now below San Francisco's command, and it was certainly surprising and surprising to me, of course, that the team would not be high, but now there are tables at the bottom. From my point of view so far, not the best performance is for my Seattle team, which is unable to take a seat in the Play-Off zone in a stable way, and now we have to fight to avoid staying last in its Division at all. I'm full of optimism myself, and I feel that the best games are certainly ahead of us. In summary, I can predict that this sort of thing will continue and there will be no pronounced falls, I hope that my team will be able to experience such leaps, even if it takes away points from one of the leaders and leads to the toughest competitors.

Well one thing for sure, playing in Edmonton the story line will always be about the Blizzard. But this season some attention has been brought forth towards the recent surge in play of the Texas Renegades who by the way are first overall in the league by merely three points on the hated Hamilton Steelhawks. But back to the Blizzard if you don't mind, much of the attention this off season was placed on the general manager. A blatant mistake that could of happened to anyone has landed the Blizzard with a hefty salary cap fine. But even though with this handicap, the season story has quickly shifted towards the play on the ice of the collective group. Sitting in second place in the West behind none other the Renegades, the Blizzard are fifth best in the league. A pleasant surprise has to be the rather great play of rookie net minder Peter Ramsay who we could not ask for more. Appearing in 28 games thus far and has collected 17 wins with a GAA of 2,89 and a save percentage of 0,903. He also has recorded two shut outs already.

Every season, multiple storylines come up from all over the league. It could be one of many things, drama between players and management, players potentially breaking a record or their own career high in a stat, a team of rookies breaking through and becoming a juggernaut, the list is almost endless. The last few seasons for me have been about my fast approaching retirement and when I will finally call it a career. I am still hoping to get one last chance at joining the Triple Gold Club, but I know that realistically it probably not happen. I have been on some pretty bad teams in my career while I watched some of my friends and former teammates thrive and win Championships and have finished their with some being locks for future nods to the Hall of Fame. While I still haven't decided when my last season will be, I want to go out with as much pride and honor as I can.

Safe to say Texas Renegades is if not the biggest, at least a huge storyline. Season is basically at the halfway point, and Texas already has a whopping amount of 27 wins from 31 games. We’re so deep into the season, that it’s highly likely, that it will continue. They’ve pretty much secured the first place of Western conference already. The consensus was that the casino over/under lines were very accurate and Texas with 47.5 wins was one of the least popular betting picks. That says a lot about how surprising their performance has been. The betting line had their win percentage at 72 %, and they are now doing 87 %. They have a ton of players playing very strong seasons, with Williams, Kekkonen, Kvalheim, Kubinec and Wachter all being over a point per game. They’ve also gotten some nice goaltending with Goodman and Kavanagh basically splitting the games. It’s looking very nice for them!

Eastern Conference:
The biggest storyline in the east so far has been the emergence of the Toronto North Stars as a legitimate contender finally. We all knew it was coming, and nobody was quite sure when, but this season they seem to have finally taken off. They're currently sitting 2nd in the conference and has turned what was already a bloodpath of a division into an absolute nightmare. It's absolutely crazy to me that one of those 4 teams are going to miss the playoffs. Western Conference: The Western Conference honestly has gone mostly as expected, but there are a few things worth mentioning. First, Texas has emerged as the clear cut favorite. I think most people had predicted this happening more-so than Toronto breaking out, due to quality of competition. The other thing worth noting is that to this point, the San Francisco Pride have actually surpassed the New Orleans Spectres and moved out of the conference basement for the first time in a few seasons.
