First of all the fact that the NHL now exists in our universe is dumb and stupid, and I will ignore it in my personal headcanon. That being said, if the SHL got picked up by cable and needed a more extreme element, I think relaxing some of the cross-checking rules and cracking down harder on obstruction and diving would make the game faster yet still more physical, preventing any aspiring agitators from mucking up the game with penalties and then avoiding the consequences of a physical, potentially hospitalizing check in response to their actions.
Adding some type of reward for fighting would be nice to increase fighting in the league, but the problem with that is enforcers may use that as an opportunity to call out non-fighters, and then brand them as cowards when they don't answer the bell like they should. Also, I would try to expand the penalty shot rules to make penalty shots called more often, as its one of the most exciting plays in hockey. Former Agent of Nick Brain: Center/Right Winger -

This should be interesting, leaving it wide open to everything and anything. After a sit down with the new buyers of the SHL, we've come to some conclusions. In order to attract both hard core fans and casual on looker at the same level, the cable company and SHL directors would need to make several changes to the look and play of our beloved SHL league.
Some rule changes such as roster sizes, why you ask, well there will no longer be any kind of referee or rules enforcer if you prefer. The referee will only be used for puck drops or helping injured players come off the ice. No more rules or regulations and therefore no more penalties. Teams will be allowed to hack and smack one another at will. Sort of a battle royal type hockey game and hence why the roster expansions. Many injuries in the foreseeable future so an adjustment on the arena diagram as well. Rinks will no longer be the standard oval 40x100 feet, no this time the restructuring of the rinks will double in square footage and also become a full blown circle. So the actual look of the ice surface would not be an oval but a donut like. Both away and home team benches will be located on the inside of the donut and the play surface at the exterior part. Each team will be allowed to ice 6 forwards, 4 defenseman and 2 goalers at all times.

With the SHL getting picked up by NBCSN a few tweaks have been added to the game to draw in more viewers. The first being the introduction of money pucks and negative pucks. Money pucks will be worth either two or three points depending on the color of the puck on the ice. The negative puck will take away 1 goal from the opposing team unless it is a short handed goal then two points will be taken from the opposing teams score. The network hopes to increase scoring by giving players a higher incentive with the potential of scoring multiple goals on one shot. In addition to the new pucks they hope to change how man advantages work. Teams on the power play have the option of either sending an opposing player to the penalty box or the team on the power play can add an additional skater to their power play for a six on five opportunity. On double minors and game misconduct penalties teams are allowed to send a player to the box and add an extra skater to their power play unit.

Alright a huge cable network wants to get some of the old SHL and the best way for them to be pleased is to make drastic measures of coarse. Injecting millions of dollars into the league along with owners alike is being called a bold move by many fans and social networks.
In the "new" SHL era we will see the replacement of hockey players by robot duplicates of each player on every roster around the SHL. All physical and emotional traits along with of coarse all their natural hockey talents will embodied into state of the art robots. Thus reducing injuries, fatigue and ultimately bringing the level of competition to new highs. To support this revolution, the rinks also would need an upgrade. The boards will now be made up of solid steel and will not give way when under collision, the puck will also be made up of the strongest material existing and may reach speeds of up to 300 miles when properly slapped.

Dude if we could get like a randomly changing temperature system in the SHL hockey rinks that would be so goddamn cool. Imagine this, you are just skating normally in a game, and out of the blue the temperature in the stadium ticks a bit higher. All of a sudden, after a few minutes, you are standing in 2 inches of standing water. It's an absolute bitch to skate in and everyone is just falling down and getting soaked. Then, the temperature ticks back down, and all of a sudden everyone is now frozen in the ice and cannot move because of their skates being surrounded by 3 inches of solid ice. Also, everyone who got all wet earlier is now freezing and might die of Hypothermia any minute. Ice picks have to be brought to every game and players must keep them on their person. Seeing people digging themselves out of ice is always entertaining and seeing people getting those ice picks involved in the fighting would be intresting. (171 Words)

After much debate between league owners and chairpeople, the SHL has decided to change the rules of their league from a standard hockey league to the new Ice Lacrosse Federation. This change will remove the use of hockey sticks and replace them with lacrosse nets. The puck will remain the same despite many insisting there be a switch to a solid ball. Each team will field 6 skaters and remove goaltenders all together, promoting more scoring in the league. One of the safety measures that will be issued will be that all players will be required to have either a cage or full face shield helmet. Pucks will be whipped around at a higher level, so players will be more prone to be hit in the face. This should diminish this risk. The news comes as a shock to many, as there was talk that the SHL could one day rival the NHL. But times are tough and interest in the league has dipped, so drastic measure are being taken. This unique experience could be coming to an arena near you in 2022!

The SHL is going to make the game of hockey more extreme by changing the composition of the boards to be incredibly bouncy. This will have a huge effect on both the way the puck bounces and the way players bounce off the boards. It will certainly take some adjustment for the SHL players to maximize their play with the rubbery, incredibly bouncy boards but the outcome will be a highly entertaining and extreme game of hockey. The boards will be so bouncy that some players will develop shots that fire off the boards at an angle to somehow gain speed as they head towards the net. Puck battles along the boards and in the corners will be very interesting as players that bump into the boards get shot out in the middle of the ice. Clearing the puck won’t be as challenging as firing it off the boards will almost certainly get the puck out of the zone. This will also have a great impact on player safety as players that fall or are hit into the boards will have a softer landing.

So what I'm thinking, and something that I've honestly always wanted to see but never have, is basically combining hockey with pinball. The idea of a pinball machine that is hockey themed gets me really excited, so why not do the opposite and turn a hockey rink into pinball instead of the other way around? You have bumpers at the face-off circles and other various point zones in the neutral zone. Of course, as the game is hockey, scoring goals in the opponent's net is by far the #1 way to get points, but you can also get extra bonus points for how many bumpers are hit, goals scored off of a bumper hit, etc. Oh and turn all of the boards and glass into one giant bumper. This way when players go crashing into the boards, they are hilariously and violently shot back into the middle of the ice. I see nothing going wrong with this at all and will surely turn SHL into a multi-billion dollar league.

To make the SHL more extreme and thus more marketable to impressionable young fans and to bring in a wider audience, the league needs to implement power ups like they have in video games. If a player skates into a certain part of the ice, it causes a light in the puck carriers visor to shine in his eyes for a second, blinding him. If you shoot the puck through a small hole in the boards, 5 pucks dump onto the ice and are all in play at the same time like in pinball. Coaches could have a one time use button on the bench which when pressed could make the opponents net expand for the next 30 seconds. All these random power ups would be real hip with the kids. It would add chaos and a new level of strategy to the game of hockey. It would be all the rage and the broadcasters will be beside themselves with joy at their ratings rising due to the new on ice shenanigans.

so we need to make the SHL more extreme? Whats more extreme than mountain dew? I think that we replace the frozen water in the rink with frozen mountain dew. Also I think that adding some crazy elements like fans with nerf guns in the crowd could be an extreme option to add. What would be a cooler way to show your support of your local SHL team that by hitting your rival team's star with a frozen potato at high velocity? I also think a cool option might be to add something like a trick goal option to be able to get 2 points. This could be specific ramps on the ice or zones that if you do a trick shot from and score will count for 2 points. Kind of like the 3 point shot in the NBA. I think all of these options would make the league more extreme.

Welcome to the new era of the SHL! We have consulted with the top engineers of our generation to construct the ultimate addition to the ice surface - the Stanchion-ator! Long before Zdeno Chara vilified the stanchion on his violent attack on Max Pacioretty, the stanchion has been a rival of many unsuspecting victims during body contact along the boards. The NHL rounded the glass on the stanchion to make it a bit less of a blow - we're going to mix it up!
From now on, we have a attached a small sensor to the panel of glass that precedes the stanchion. When it detects movement, a piston will fire that projects the stanchion two and a half feet into the ice surface, resulting in some HILARIOUS and DANGEROUS clobbering of the players! We are still pending SHLPA approval for this modification, but the TV revenue it will generate makes it a no-brainer! RIP Dangel. See you on the other side, brother

so first off, the rink needs a lot more fire. pyrotechnics. yeah. during the beginning, middle and end and every second in between we're gonna be setting off some type of visually pleasing explosive. paired up with that, we're gonna have indoor fireworks in shapes of penises. nothing more hardcore than man on man action. with that, we're gonna be having flames as high as the ceiling on each corner of the rink. now you're probably thinking, isn't all that heat and fire gonna melt the ice of the rink? and you'd be right. after the game, the ice melts and we all have a pool party. once that happens, we're gonna unveil that we've tricked out the roof to be open-able and have the heat of the sun cook the water which then becomes a pool party. we're gonna have lots of beautiful women handning out the snacks and beverages, and best of all, nsync is re-grouping and performing together for us while we sip our margaritas and everyone is saying and thinking wow jimmy this was such a good idea you're such a great guy we love you so much
and it was at this moment that jimmy woke up. 214

The SHL made a deal with ESPN and get now much more attention, but because ESPN already broadcasts a lot of hockey the league had to make a few significant promises. There are coming some massive rule changes for the teams. 1st we aren’t no longer playing 5 on 5 hockey, from now on it will be a 11 on 11 like they have in soccer. Pretty sure everyone now could think about what the 2nd massive change will be. The game will no longer be played on the smaller hockey rinks they have in America and Canada, they are now getting the size of a soccer field. So that means every SHL team will have to move on from their loved arenas and find a new rink to play. The league and ESPN hope that this could be the start of a new hockey hype and revolutionize the game of hockey. We will see if they are right or just ruin a great hockey league.

The SHL has been picked up by some obscure cable network and has been rebranded to the EXTREME SHL. In the EXTREME SHL, it isn't one team of 11 players, facing one team of 11 players, it's six teams of 11 players, each facing off each other. The way this works is the rink is now shaped like an asterisk. (*). There will be one net on the end of each point, and a giant circular neutral zone in the middle will hell breaks loose. The game will now be played with pucks to guarantee action all over the asterisk. The referees have been told to chill out and let the players hit, hook, trip and spear each other all over the ice to create maximum chaos. At the end of the game (will keep the same 3 - 20 minute period games) the team which had the best goal differential will be declared the winner, and if no team is ahead after 60 minutes, the game will continue into a overtime until there is one leader.

Since the Simulation Hockey League's tv rights were purchased by an unnamed cable network, they've been making a load of changes to try and increase ratings. Some are super gimmicky and won't last long, but the one thing that they insist will last is replacing the boards with thick elastic bands all the way around the rink. This extreme change will cause anyone to runs into them to stretch them out and then be launched back across the ice. Hits will result in players flying everywhere and pucks taking all kinds of crazy bounces. Players can try and slingshot themselves off the new "boards" to try and gain some extra speed. Some might worry about safety concerns for the players, and that's actually a completely valid complaint. There has been nothing put in place to try and prevent injuries because of these new elastic boards, mainly because nobody knows what the hell could be done. That's for future HO's to figure out though, for now just sit back and enjoy the chaos.
