S59 mPT #2 Hockey Cards

Noah Johns will of course because..he is the third player in the family and will be the first one to hopefully make it to the SHL which will be a major milestone and make him a rare card to find since everyone gets it!

I think a Ron Mexico rookie card would be extremely valuable. Coming into the SHL, Mexico was not a highly rated prospect. He had been drafted 34th overall in S1 by the Hamilton Steelhawks before being traded to the Winnipeg Jets, and no one would have expected that Mexico would become the defining player of the early SHL era. If trading cards had been around back then, I doubt very many, if any Mexico cards would have been printed, and that scarcity would lead to the card to be one coveted by collectors.

A 1st edition pingy pingy would be my dream card. I mean imagine the nooting it could do and the amount of damage a lungs gumpa native would deal. My first card better be this card or I quit

When looking at hockey cards from the NHL there are two main conditions a card has to meet to be considered extremely valuable. (a) the card must be extraordinarily rare, or even better, no longer being printed. And (b) the player on the card must be one of the greats of the sport. Of course, the condition of the card itself means almost even more than those first conditions for physical cards. But since our SHL cards will be digital they will all always be in "mint" condition.

Now let's see which card types and players I believe will come to be among the most sought after in the SHL sphere. I'm first gonna try to figure out the different card types we might see by guessing and also looking at what DOTTS have provided the ISFL with.

First, my own guesswork is that we'll see the following card types/categories: Rookies, HOF, Award Winners, Championship Winners, and the promised Charity Drive donators/raffle winners. A quick look over at DOTTS shows that they have special cards for team captains, the teams themselves, and even holographic cards. Fancy enough.

Which card category will be to rarest among these. Well, IRL holographic cards have always been considered extra valuable because they are just that. Rare. But among all these card categories there's one that stands out. And that's the Charity Drive cards. This is, afaik, a one-time thing. 10 users will have their players printed on special edition Charity Drive cards. No other player will after this will ever be put on this specific Charity Drive card. That's why I believe the COTA Charity Drive player cards will be considered the rarest and therefore most valuable cards. And if you make a tiny amount of them holographic, well then you've hit the jackpot.

But now let's talk about players. Just because a player is put on a Charity Drive card it doesn't mean they'll automatically be the most valuable of them all. Because as mentioned, the player usually needs to be at least above average for the card to be considered valuable.

Right now the top-3 users that have donated are connected to the following players: Joseph Weston, Angus McFife, and Chimkin Wing. Among the three only Joseph has a deep career so far. Unfortunately, while he has produces well on the ice he doesn't have a lot of awards or cups to show for it. Meaning, if he gets a Charity card, it might not be considered the most valuable. The other two, Angus and Chimkin are both very young in their careers and it will be hard to say how well they will do. Could be worth to try and stock up on a few of their Charity cards, just in case they make it big.

But since we'll have seven other players randomly raffled onto Charity cards anyone can really end up on there. Looking at stats of current players there are so many that stand out. I'm having a hard time picking a single one. But one that most people know is Theo Morgan. With a Sarmad Khan, Anton Razov, Sergei Karpotsov, two Jay McDonald trophies, two Challenge Cups, and a vast list of international achievements. He's definitely up there as one of the best.

So, the rarest and most valuable SHL card will be(if the stars align): A Theo Morgan holographic COTA 2021 Charity Drive card.

Past Players

I haven't put in the time to learn the history as much as I should have of the league, nor do I know hockey cards well, but I think a family card of all the Smebs, or Legends of each Team cards would be pretty cool.

This is a tough decision! so many short careered SHL legends like Kyle Izzy and Cum Harvester would be some high-value cards due to their short-lived yet impactful SHL careers.

Very likely Stampede Elizabeth Doyle's rookie card will end up in this territory as there is no doubt in my mind that she'll end her career as the most decorated and successful goaltender the league has ever seen.

An excellent question and I believe it will be one of the players that retire this off-season.
Alternatively it'll be one of the new GMs who's player will for sure not be seen in another uniform until they retire again

The card I want, the card the league needs, is a Jack Crasher card. The thing that will make this card special is that it there will be a variant for every team in the league. Same card in every other aspect, just different jersey and colors. Getting one for each team would be every collector's dream.

Easily has to be the legendary Pingy Pingy card, no other name stands alone as unique or iconic as that. There are so many other greats that they will balance each other's price out, but collecting that sweet Pingy card will always be memorable and memeable

This is a very good question, but I don't have enough time on the site to know, being a relatively new player. I would have to say I would hope to be on this legendary card some day.

[S78] #14 C | Jon Garfield
[SMJHL] Regina Elk / Thunder Bay Walleye

[SHL] Buffalo Stampede | Prospect

[S58] #72 LD | Shion Okamoto
[SMJHL] Newfoundland Berserkers | Former Captain | S60, S62 Four Star Cup
[SHL] Chicago Syndicate | S64 Challenge Cup
[IIHF] Team Japan | S60 Gold

An Esa Anrikkanen rookie card which looks very shiny and very good art on the card is definitely like a Charizard card. One of the best players in the SHL and it will be a very attractive card.

People told me that Jason Visser was SHL "Gretzky", the best ever. So I would say Jason Visser then. "Played for the Jets forever, won a bunch of awards, I'm pretty sure he's the all time leader in peak TPE and career points", said Tig and I believe him!

With any release of collectable cards, you have to keep your eye on the rookies. Finding a rookie card of a league great would be the best. They probably won't make any of the kind, but it would be sweet to get a Young Guns style card of a league legend in a retro style like the old O-Pee-Chee.

Most people would believe the most valuable card would be of a hall of fame player. Problem is there are so many legendary players, I don't think that's the criteria. It has to be someone like Gareth Rush, someone who played one season and people still remember it.
