(This post was last modified: 06-21-2021, 12:24 PM by Matteo.)

Hey everyone!

With our awards show wrapping up a couple hours ago, the committee members paid, and the vote counts posted, it's about time that I open up the floor for any questions, comments, or criticisms anyone has for me or the committee. Before we get into it I first want to give a big thank you to everyone who took the time to watch the show and hang out in chat, and also to AgentSmith630 and Trashae for being amazing hosts.

The next couple days are a little hectic for me so I might not get to your questions right away, but I promise I will as soon as I have time, so without further ado ask me anything Smile

Edit: Gonna close this now. Thanks everyone for your questions, my DMs are always open if anyone has any more!

Right now I'm happy with the positional voting system since it feels like a fair way to guarantee three nominees for every award, and most of the time the person with the most first place votes wins anyways. I'm also not smart enough to fully understand how instant-runoff voting works though.

For defense, some key things we look at are shots against/60 and goals against/60, especially compared to the rest of that player's team, and also corsi against compared to the rest of the team. We also like shot blocks, giveaways to takeaways, shorthanded time on ice, and to a certain extent hits, but I don't really like factoring hits in as much unless I'm really torn between two players. I think each committee member would put weight all these a little differently which I kinda like, or else the whole job could be automated. As for forwards versus defense, there isn't too much of a difference of how we look at each one since we're evaluating the same thing for both of them. Maybe it would be different if we were directly comparing the two positions for a "best defensive player" award since that would probably just go to the best defensive defenseman every season, but since we keep them separate we can rank them separately using the same metrics.

For this job I hate surprises so I'm happy to say I wasn't too surprised at any of the winners. Some of them came a lot closer than I expected this season, particularly the Fallah and the Anrikkanen. For the Anrikkanen I even had to use the "most first place votes gets it" tiebreaker, and for the Fallah if Trudeau got just one more 3rd place vote we would have had to do a run-off vote to determine which one wins the award.

You and Gabe have been amazing as GMs in Anchorage. I don't want to take anything away from that because it's just a fact. I know how difficult it is to keep your team competitive for three seasons in the J's when basically your whole team changes every four seasons. This time around though many members of the committee decided to vote for the NL GMs in no small part to the miraculous one-season-rebuild they had back in S57, and how they became competitive last season with basically half their team being rookies and the other half being 350-capped, then they stayed the course this season with those rookies being stuck at 350.

I googled the last name Doyle to try to find a clever comeback but the worst people that came up were just politicians and businesspeople, so that ruins what I wanted to say. I'm still not renaming the Onoprienko though, from what I can tell the user who created Vyacheslav Onoprienko (@JackCross) is probably the most underrated of all time, basically created the Simmer position and streamed all of the games for every league by themself, and this was someone I had never heard of. This is what my research tells me anyways, it came to my attention this season that I actually had no idea who were any of the players that the awards were named after so I spent a few hours finding each one (then finding that Trips did the same thing a few seasons back and made a media article about it when I only had like three more players to look up). After reading about every player I'd say of all the awards, Onoprienko is the least likely to be renamed while I'm awards head.
