Now that the eel pre draft lottery has been done, it is now official the almost any player from the EEL league can take part in this season NWJHL league. This was a big shocker for the league and an unexpected call from the commissioner of the NWJHL. The commissioner, Maxy stated that” For the S7 NWJHL season, as it appears we will never reach our recruiting goal... You lazy bums.... We are going to take drastic measures to get things rolling”. The league needed to make drastic measure to have the NWJHL season start on schedule as planned.

CBC hockey specialist Ron McLane had time sit down and get Daraian Scherbluk’s opinion on this big announcement.

Ron McLane: Darian what is your thoughts on the EEL players coming over seas to play in the NWJHL this season temporarily?

Darian Scherbluk: First off i was shocked to hear the announcement from the commissioner; it was the last thing I expected to happen that is for sure. I think this will help benefit the NWJHL this season. Right now us rookie have been eagerly waiting for the draft for what it seems like forever now. We would have still needed to wait a while for the rest of the rookies to apply which could have taken a long time. It was a good call by the commissioner. I am also especially happy for them to come over seas as I grew up watching this league in Ukraine and have got to meet some of the players before ad now they will end up being my teammates. It will be good to be playing with a lot more European players.

Ron McLane: How does this affect the NWJHL rookie this season?

Darian Scherbluk: Well they will bring some experience over to help the rookie and hopefully bring that veteran leadership to the locker room to help guide the rookies. It will also give us mentor on the ice that could help us develop our hockey skills. This will probably add a little competition for ice time on team to which will help us grow as player and develop as each night we will have to be giving it our hundred and ten percent every night as there will be those EEL player just waiting to take our spot. With the EEL players coming over to the NWJHL it will also bring better talent to the league which can only make us rookies better and prepare us for the leap to the SHL.

Darian Scherbluk: I am just can’t wait to hear my name on draft day and put on that hat and jersey. I will then be one step closer to fulfilling my dream to play in the SHL!
