(Graded) Deep Dive #1 - Vancouver Whalers

Let's have a look at the Vancouver Whalers. We are now almost at the end of the regular season, and what a better time to take a look at how the roster has performed. Before the season even began, there was not that much belief on the team. I fyou look at the season predictions, most people had the Whalers either second or third in the division. Well, jokes on them, and on me. Vancouver is atop the division, two points clear of the second placed Anchorage Armada, with a game in hand. And no way of losing. At least in regulation. Fifteen games in a row where the Whalers have come out with at least one point. Their record during those games? 11-0-4, 26 points. Over their last 20 games? The Whalers are 14-2-4, 32 points. To put it into perspective, Vancouver has a 45-14-5, 95 pts record entering the last day of streams. 20 games ago, the record was 31-13-1, 63 points. At the same point,  Anchorage had a 36-9-2, 74 points. You can even go two games back. The lead was larger for Anchorage. Vancouver heated up at the right time, to force a 13 point swing for the division lead. Heading into playoffs, as the second seed, and waiting for their next opponent, as there is an apparent reseeding after the first round, the Whalers know they will have to defeat both Newfoundland and Anchorage, on their quest for the 4-Star Cup, barring any upsets. But the Whalers are strong and resilient. Their lines are top notch, from the first, all the way down to the fourth. But there are those players that separate themselves. One of them is Alexis Saint-Michel, a sophomore left winger. ASM leads the team in goals, is third in assists, second in points, with a very impressive 16.3% shooting accuracy. ASM also leads the league in goals and is second in points across the juniors. And who could ignore the Tater. Makrus Jager is ASM's pair in the most dominant duo in the league. Tater is leading his team and the league in both assists and points, while being the Whalers' fourth best scorer. And he is doing this on a 12.2% shooting accuracy. But no team can succeed without the goalies and the defence. You can score as much as you want up front, but if there is nobody to hold the gates, you are going to lose. Manyhands, Fischermann, Svechnikov, Tanner, and YoungBoy among others showing impressive defensive performances throughout the season. Tanner has 244 hits, just to give you an example. Which brings us to Olof Karsikko and Ivan Browning. Olof is leading the league in wins and shutouts, with 38 and 8 respectively, while Brownie is perfect, 7-0-0. In general, the Whalers are a tough team, and they can give any team a run for their money. Despite going 1-5-1 and 2-4-0 against Newfoundland and Anchorage during the regular season. The playoffs are a different story. And everyone in the city of Vancouver is ready.
