Jarrow's Childlike Analysis of the Colorado Raptors
Jarrow spent the better part of his Friday night scouring over his teams roster and breaking down the makeup of the team. This was only the first step in his task to learn more about the league he has found himself to be a part of. His brand new task was to now analyze a rival team of his choice.
With many teams to choose from, Spack set his eyes on the Colorado Raptors locker room. This was a team that scouted him prior to being drafted and even invited him into their locker room. It was an active group with a lot of talk about a players nuts. Jarrow never really learned who everyone was but has decided to take his time to do that right now.
So onwards with the breakdown of the roster for the upcoming season:
Centers First initial impression is that they have too many centers. Armada only have two centers and I just assume that is the proper amount. Three is far too many and clearly they are doing something wrong but to each their own. The centers that they do have look like a pretty solid group, a good mix of experience.
[S60] Center - Rinky McDangle (tpe: 472)
63 games played
13 goals
15 assists
28 points
-1
12 penalty minutes
McDangle should see a lot more ice-time in the upcoming season after only averaging around 13 minutes the previous season. They didn't get much of a shot on special teams, so expect to see them get a chance to make an impact in those areas for the Raptors. Active member with lots of potential, should see a steady improvement this season over last.
[S61] Center - Max Manning (tpe: 402)
66 games played
3 goals
15 assists
18 points
-14
10 penalty minutes
Manning had a solid rookie season with 18 points after only seeing an average of 11 minutes of ice-time per game. Max was also on the 2nd power play unit for much of the season. They will need to improve their defensive stats but that shouldn't be a problem. Member is active and has plenty of potential. Expect to see them get a significant role increase this season with their probable jump in ice-time.
[S58] Center - Leon Schweingruber (tpe: 369)
66 games played
11 goals
14 assists
25 points
+10
28 penalty minutes
Schweingruber is a big lanky forward with a fair amount of experience. They are listed as a RD last season, so I don't know what is going on. Can you just swap from RD to C? Member hasn't been active in a few months so not sure if they will improve much. Do I analyze his numbers as a defender or center? Imma just going to move past this player.
Left Wingers From an initial look, the left wing position seems like it is a strength of this club. Some big time veterans with good depth and some potentially high end rookies. We can only assume that this is why I wasn't drafted by Colorado because of their strong depth on the left side. Couldn't possibly be any other reason.
[S59] Left Wing - Jack Nishimori (tpe: 764)
66 games played
17 goals
27 assists
44 points
+1
30 penalty minutes
Nishimori finished last season 42nd in goals, 44th in assists, and 42nd in points in the SMJHL. He was on the first unit power play and second unit penalty kill. A solid last season, Jack will be relied heavily on this season to lead his club. As an active member and vet, everyone knows their potential and we can expect him to make an even bigger impact this season.
[S59] Left Wing - Artemius Nyström (tpe: 707)
66 games played
23 goals
25 assists
48 points
+17
24 penalty minutes
Nyström had strong season finishing 17th in goals, 57th in assists, and 35th in points in the SMJHL. Despite being in the top 20 in goal scoring, Artemius was only able to crack the 2nd unit power play but should be in the conversation for the 1st unit when the time comes. They are a heavy hitter with the 5th most hits of any forward last season. Another member of this Raptors team that is pretty active and has a lot of potential. Expect to see their name crack the top 10 if they are given more ice-time this season.
[S60] Left Wing - Gonzo Gobbledygook (tpe: 626)
66 games played
23 goals
33 assists
56 points
+0
24 penalty minutes
Gobbledygook had a fantastic season finishing 17th in goals, 20th in assists, and 14th in points in the SMJHL. With one of the lowest ice-times amongst the top 20 scorers, this season should be an exciting one for Gonzo if he is fed more time on the ice. They did well on the power play notching 11 points on the first unit. It is unlikely that they will be giving up their spot anytime soon on it. They are an active vet who has a lot of potential. Look for their name at the top of the scoring race by the end of the season.
[S62] Left Wing - Sanjuro Tsubaki (tpe: 226)
No stats
Tsubaki is a new recruit and the Raptors 4th round draft pick. They project to be an offensive forward with good puck handling skills and a solid grasp of where to be on the ice. Member has been active and has shown a lot of potential. This could be a big addition to the team should some of the veterans of the left side make the transition to the big show.
[S62] Left Wing - Vin Bangsa-Wamy (tpe: 199)
No stats
Bangsa-Wamy was the Raptors 1st round pick, 10th overall in the draft. They are a new recruit who has been active in the league for awhile now. He is a big and fast skater with an accurate shot. Another forward with a ton of potential. Between Vin and Sanjuro, the Raptors look to be set up well for the future on left wing.
Right Wingers Much like the center position, right wing also looks like a solid group of players. With a mix of experience and rookies, this group looks like it has plenty of room for growth.
[S60] Right Wing - Eric Tokke (tpe: 487)
66 games played
7 goals
18 assists
25 points
+7
18 penalty minutes
Tokke had a solid sophomore season establishing himself as a regular in the league. They were relied heavily on the penalty kill with over 2 minutes of ice-time per game. Eric is a monster of a player at 6'6, they are punishing to play against as one of the more active hitters with 92. This should be the big season for them to make a statement. As another active member, their potential is sky high and their build is going to be a handful for most teams.
[S61] Right Wing - Gabe-Gooney-Waters Harrak (tpe: 378)
66 games played
7 goals
13 assists
20 points
-3
18 penalty minutes
Harrak finished their rookie season with decent results. Limited to only around 11 minutes of ice-time per game, they got to play on the second unit of the penalty kill. They did manage to get a couple of power play points despite getting almost no time on the PP. Perhaps they will use that to make a case for 2nd unit PP time this season. Member is clearly an active and experienced vet with all of the potential in the world.
[S61] Right Wing - Donald Jr Trump (tpe: 378)
66 games played
5 goals
9 assists
14 points
+0
31 penalty minutes
Juniour is a big 6'6 forward who loves to hit with 109 last season in the SMJHL. He saw time on the 2nd unit power play and penalty kill teams last season. Like every member of the Colorado team that I have looked into, Donald is an active member. His potential is very high and should be a staple on the defensive side of the puck.
[S62] Right Wing - Shōyō Hinata (tpe: 225)
No stats
Hinata is a new player who the Raptors drafted with the first of their two 3rd round picks. They are a small (5'7) offensively gifted player who is active and has shown a lot of potential in the short amount of time that they have been around. Will be angling for a try out on the 2nd unit power play team this season.
Left Defense The left side of the defense looks a little young after a quick look. That isn't to knock the left defenders who look like very good players for their skill level. Should provide a lot of opportunity for the younger players to get some valuable playing time.
[S61] Left Defense - Jamal Nightingale (tpe: 399)
66 games played
1 goal
16 assists
17 points
-5
14 penalty minutes
Nightingale was a rookie defenseman who had a really strong first season. Jamal was relied on heavily to kill penalties., averaging over 2 minutes on the penalty kill. This defense first d-man is an integral component to the Raptors defense moving forward and should start to see him being relied on even more this season. Another member of the Raptors who is active and has a lot of potential.
[S62] Left Defense - Zayne Dangle (tpe: 229)
No stats
Dangle (not to be confused with McDangle) is a rookie defender who is mobile and equally skilled on both ends of the ice. Zayne was drafted by the Colorado Raptors in the 2nd round of the recent draft and should have plenty of opportunity to make an impact with his new club. Active seems to be the common thread between all of the Raptor players and Dangle fits right in. The potential is there, this should be a very good player.
Right Defense
The right side of the defense looks like a strength for the Raptors. With a mix of grizzled vets and younger players, the defense looks to be well built with a strong future.
[S59] Right Defense - Angus McFife XVIII (tpe: 790)
66 games played
12 goals
27 assists
39 points
+5
36 penalty minutes
McFife XVIII is one of the premier defenders in the SMJHL. Angus finished the season 11th in goals, 11th in assists, and 12th in points for all defensemen in the SMJHL. McFife XVIII saw 1st unit power play time last season and is likely a lock for it this season as well. This will be another big year and will be expected to carry the offense from the backend and should be a great top pairing with Nightingale. Expect some top 10 finishes to the season for this active vet.
[S61] Right Defense - Hans Graf (tpe: 406)
66 games played
7 goals
17 assists
24 points
-9
38 penalty minutes
Graf had an excellent rookie season finishing 39th in goals, 38th in assists, and 39th in points for all defenseman in the SMJHL. Hans has provided great depth to a strong defensive core. They managed to see some time on the power play and on the penalty kill, however I'm sure they wouldn't mind seeing even more time going into their sophomore season. Like a repeating record, another really active member with a ton of potential.
[S61] Right Defense - Magnus Galtisson (tpe: 257)
44 games played
6 goals
6 assits
12 points
+9
13 penalty minutes
Galtisson had a pretty good rookie season when he finally saw the ice. Magnus is a strong player who loves to hit and can hold his own if things start to get nasty. Should be a staple moving forward on the penalty kill and another big depth piece for the Raptors. A strong defensive d-man on the right side to offset the more offensively inclined right defenders. Active and looking to improve, his potential is also sky high.
[S58] Right Defense - Rovolio Clocksberg Jr (tpe: 186)
22 games played
2 goals
6 assits
8 points
+2
8 penalty minutes
Clocksberg Jr is a well rounded defender who saw the ice sporadically last season. He was a solid player when needed. This is the first member of the Raptors who isn't active and likely just cannon fodder should something happen to the defenders high up on the depth chart. Potential is limited and you likely get what you see.
Goalies From my brief experience, it seems strange seeing goalies with more than 155 TPE so this looks like a really good depth and mix of vets and youth.
[S60] Goalie - Zhen Roza (tpe: 582)
57 games played
26w - 26l 5otl record
3.23 gaa
.911 save%
4 shutouts
Roza was the starting goalie for Anaheim last season. Zhen finished last season with the 5th best save percentage (those with 20 or more games) in the SMJHL. Moving from Anaheim to Colorado, this could be a huge season for Roza. They are an active member with oodles of potential. Should be in the running for goalie of the year when all is said and done.
[S62] Goalie - Recently Tired (tpe: 216)
No stats
Tired is a 6'9 behemoth who was recently drafted by the Colorado Raptors in the 3rd round. With good positioning and rebound control, Recently will be looking to establish himself as a solid backup who can potentially take over the starting position once Roza has moved on to the bigs. Another active member who will likely have tons of untapped potential. They next wave of netters.
[S58] Goalie - Sebastian Andrews (tpe: 155)
No stats
Andrews showed signs of life briefly but has not lived up to his potential. A 3rd string goalie who will likely not see any ice-time. He is there to help fill out the roster, anything more than that is probably too much to ask for from this IA. Should he make a comeback, I'm sure the Raptors would welcome him back.
Overview
The Colorado Raptors have a very active team with potential at every position. Their depth is also well spread out and the team seems thoroughly put together. I expect them to be at or near the top of the division and should provide to be a difficult team to play against.
If I missed anyone or got your information incorrect, I apologize. This is all written off the cuff with little to no analysis.
Good luck Raptors on your season and looking forward to seeing you on the ice!

I really cannot tell if this is a joke or not
In my first deep dive with Armada, I made a reference to how 2 centers is the perfect amount because that is what we have and any more than that I assume is too many. So that is just me carrying my dumbass joke from the first article to this one.
