[2x Draft][S62 Draft Preview] - Montreal Patriotes
#1

Some important information that pertains to this Draft Preview.
When calculating what a “Max TPE Earner” makes for each draft class, I take the 5 highest earners and average them out.  From there, players are put into levels as follows:

A Level Prospect [90%+ TPE Earned]
B Level Prospect [80%+ TPE Earned]
C Level Prospect [70%+ TPE Earned]
D Level Prospect [60%+ TPE Earned]
E Level Prospect [50%+ TPE Earned]

To note, any IA SHL Player will not have a Player/Prospect Rating Level attached to their player.

Using @grimreaper as an Example [24th in S59 Draft Class]

The Average of the Top 5 Earners = 912 TPE
@grimreaper has earned = 781 TPE
TPE Earned Score of 86% = B Level Prospect

**Note** - One very important thing to keep in mind is that this information and data has nothing to do with what kind of Locker Room presence a player is.  That is something that simply cannot be quantified and there are many players around the SHL that bring huge value on that front.

Now onto our third team.

Montreal Patriotes Organizational Depth

GM: @Inf1d3l
CoGM: @TheFlash

Two GMs that seem to be well respected in the community (though I personally do not have much experience with them.  During a recent conversation with Inf, they had this to share, “Overall, I'm really happy with where we sit. The actives I do have are really bought into the system and plan, the inactives are just fillers, and we have what one may call "A buttload" of picks this draft.  I know the next two seasons on ice won't be the prettiest but, It's a marathon, not a sprint.”

Let’s take a look at that current roster.

Forwards [5 Active]
[54] Simon Takshak [Active] [907] [49%] **E**
[55] Mack Daddy [Active] [976] [Retired]
[55] Zelma Zuntnere [IA] [1062]
[55] Lassi Suhonen [IA] [962]
[57] Jarmo Kekalainen [Active] [1060] [83%] **B**
[57] Igor Petrov [Active] [893] [70%] **C**
[60] Stan Din’desque [Active] [716] [98%] **A**

Up front, you can see what Inf was referring to.  Limited active options and even 1 player who has recently retired.  Headlined by two relatively recent prospects.  Kekalainen and Din’Desque have all the earning potential to be elite level players in the league if they can keep it up.  With only 1 of the 3 forward lines set for the future, Montreal will be looking to make sure that they have some quality recruits in the pipeline.

Defense [4 Active]
[51] Zlatan Ibrahimovic Jr. [Active] [1902] [94%] **A**
[51] Abel Skinner [Active] [1640] [81%] **B**
[54] James LeBlond [IA] [912]
[54] Renji Atake [Active] [614] [33%] **E**
[55] Joorgustraad DuBolk [IA] [1198]
[60] Zak Wilson [Active] [721] [99%] **A**

On defense it is a similar picture to the forwards.  Wilson and Zlatan headline their roster as the two A Level prospects.  The only issue here is they are on polar opposites.  Zlatan, one of the darlings of the S51 class is at the point where they are in their prime.  Wilson, Is just breaking into the league.  It remains to be seem if there is a plan in place for Zlatan to stick around or should we expect to see a trade in the near future.  Either way, this is a good problem to have for a rebuilding team in need of some talent in all places of the organization.

Goalies [1 Active]
[51] White Goodman [Active] [1326] [65%] **D**
[54] Richard Majors [IA] [273]

Goodman is a fellow to Zlatan in the S51 draft class, and the thoughts are the same here.  Not elite in their earning, but an absolutely serviceable goaltender in the league.  Goodman projects to be either moved or their goalie until MTL is able to develop a new prospect.

Patriotes Prospect Depth

Forwards
[60] Roderic Banes [Active] [653] [90%] **A**
[60] Miles O’Brien [Active] [538] [74%] **C**
[61] Jalal ad-Din Afinogenov [Active] [362] [69%] **D**
[61] Scott Thorn [Active] [419] [80%] **B**

Though not a ton of forwards in the system, they are all active.  With a mix of elite earning to serviceable options, Montreal is sitting on a good start to a rebuild.  Banes headlines this group as the only A Level prospect.  You probably won’t see them join the SHL this season, but another season for the youngster would be great for their development.  Thorn also adds another good future option for the organization.

Defense
[60] Ryan Gardner [IA] [544]
[61] Leons Briedis [Active] [498] [96%] **A**
[61] Samuel Kjellsson [Active] [351] [67%] **D**

Similar with their forwards, the team is not loaded with prospects on the backend either.  Briedis headlines this group with some elite earning potential.  Sitting on 96%, you should expect to see Leons around the top 10 of the draft class for many seasons to come.  Expect them to be the future first pair on this rebuilding team.

Goalies

No surprises here, given that Montreal has made it known to prospects that they are looking to add a goalie during the draft.  Not really an issue currently either, with the team owning a serviceable option in net with Goodman

Draft Capital [S62]
1st Round [ 7 / 18 ]
2nd Round [ 32 ]
3rd Round [ 43 / 47 / 50 ]

Draft Outlook

Inf1d3l started out his tenure with a bang, trading down from the 3 Overall slot to add some seriously needed draft capital.  In return, he picked up the 7th and 18th Overall positions.  What a great spot to be in a deep draft.  I expect the Patriotes to grab the best available Forward and Defender in their two slots in the first round as the team looks to begin turning their fortunes around.

During the mid section of the draft, Montreal is the owners of 3 picks in the span of 7 picks.  This is a great time for the organization to take a chance on a few key members of the draft class that they think could become stars.

I expect them to walk away from the first 3 rounds with three forwards, two defenders and a goalie.  They might even be able to wait until the 2nd to snag that goalie but, depending on options, might take the leap and grab one early with their 18th.

Final Thoughts

I kinda like where Montreal is at.  Blessed with a decent amount of picks in a very healthy draft class, not a ton of weight of contracts on the books.  I fully expect Inf1d3l to right the ship over the next few seasons as they continue to hoard some draft capital.
