Post SHL Draft Interview with Dirty Boots by Cooper of NTV News

Cooper: Hello again everyone! Cooper here with NTV News. We’re here joined once again by Dirty Boots. Dirty Boots has now officially been drafted by The Texas Renegades of the SHL! Please join us in congratulating Dirty Boots!

Boots: Thanks so much! It’s been a wild and exciting day!

Cooper: So right away, tell us how you feel about getting drafted by Texas! Were you expecting the pick?

Boots: I’m incredibly excited to be a part of the Texas Renegades! As you should know, Texas was just in the Challenge Cup Finals and heartbreakingly lost in the finals against The Hamilton Steelhawks. They’re still very much a contending team so it’s amazing to be a part of that winning atmosphere!

Cooper: Did anyone with Texas reach out to you prior to the draft?

Boots: I actually spoke with one of the CO-GMs of The Renegades quite some time before the draft. We had a good talk about the team and about myself of course but we also took some time to learn about each other outside of the league as well with common hobbies and interests. They reached out again the morning of the draft with a couple more questions, the most important question being Would you be open to a Texas draft destination? I of course told them I’d love to be a part of a winning environment like Texas and I guess that’s all they needed to hear.

Cooper: Texas selected you with their 19th overall pick, the same position you were drafted when you were drafted into the SMJHL by the Detroit Falcons! Any chance you saw that coming?

Boots: Ha! No I didn’t see that coming at all. I definitely wasn’t expecting a top 10 pick so I was predicting a lower draft pick for myself. I don’t want to sound conceited but I felt like I was going to be a steal at a later pick somewhere in the top 20. There was some trades that made me wonder if anyone was coming after me but yeah it was at nineteen where Texas took me. Maybe I should change my number to nineteen!

Cooper: Were you maybe expecting a trade for a certain team to draft you?

Boots: Not necessarily no but I did have a great chat with Calgary and thought maybe they were attempting some sort of trade. They only had the one pick in the draft so they probably would have had to give up a player in order to pick up another top pick so it makes sense that it wouldn’t be them. In saying that I’m very happy to be part of Texas!

Cooper: So have you had a chance to sit down with the Texas GMs to discuss your future with the team?

Boots: I did sit down with Puolivalmiste and we discussed some contract talks as well as my current role with the organization as well as my future on the team. They’re going to keep me in Detroit for now to continue with my development. Once I’ve got more experience and have stepped my game up to the next level they’ll likely be giving me a bigger role on the team as well. We discussed my development and my current skill set as well. They want me to work on being a two way player as opposed to quarterback and then working on the quarterback once I’ve reached a certain point in my career. We’ll see how things go, I’m definitely open to the knowledge and expertise of my GM and coaching staff.

Cooper: Well it sounds like they have big plans for you either way so that’s great to hear! Have you been able to meet any of your new teammates yet?

Boots: Yes actually! I know one of the players on the team so it’s great to come into the room and recognize a familiar face. The rest of the locker room seems like a good bunch. Another group of veterans that know what’s up. I’ll be going to them for advice as well in the future. They’ve been to the finals a couple of times recently and know how to be a contending team so I’ll be looking to follow in their footsteps

Cooper: Sounds amazing! We’re all so proud of you Dirty Boots! You can guarantee your fans will have Texas Renegades jerseys on with Boots across the back! Thanks again for joining us after your big day here today and we look forward to catching up with you again! Good luck with your next season!
