S64 Top 10 Draft Recap

We dust off our old media hat as our bank is getting dangerously low and take a look at the S64 draft class. A class I had minimal knowledge about because I'm enjoying my retirement as a gm and paying less attention to what's going on in the league. That said I still help out where I can and am excited for the Dragons current draft class and hopeful for all the S64 draftees to have fun enjoyable careers with their new teams.

Note: This was suppose to be a normal draft recap but somehow turned into me relating each pick to food. Go figure..

Ok Here we go!

1 Barracuda D- Holden Steady.

Coming into the draft I think this guys username was something-tatertots but has since been changed to ctots, I remember this because when I saw him on our draft sheet I told our war room anyone with the name tatertots would be a great fit in Calgary and then that diverged quickly into a discussion about tatertot parm, which honestly is a great idea. Delicious crispy tater tots covered in sauce and melted cheese. I'm definitely trying it and will credit this ctots guy on being a driving force behind the idea. Ok sorry I derailed a bit there, but yeah Holden Steady is a great pick at #1 to Tampa Bay and they must have seen something they really like from him to take him 1st as he was slightly behind the top tpe earners or should I say tot earners, but a few tpe doesn't matter, its what you do after the draft and Holden Steady looks like he will become a great player and prominent member of the league. 6'2" 180 pound finnish defenseman we wish him the best!

2. Patriotes D- Johhny Patey.

I'm not sure how to exactly pronounce this last name, obviously I want to say it like the food Pate but that's probably not how it's said. That being said I'm going to say it that way in my head because it reminds me of food and that's what I like. Ok so Johnny Patey, great pick at #2 as he is the top tpe tpe earner in the draft at 320 on draft day. A 6'3" 207 pound Latvian defenseman he should provide a great anchor on the blue for years to come for Montreal, we assume he will be offensive as well and remain one of the top tpe players in his draft class. Good job Montreal and best of luck to Johnny Patey!

3. Wolfpack D- Moritz Seider.

Hey I'm sensing a trend here with another guys name I can relate to food or in this case drinking (Hard Cider, Apple Cider) and not too far way from pulled pork Sliders. Ok I derailed again sorry, this is not an intentional thing with this article but may happen, we'll see what other names come up. So yeah Moritz Seider not to be confused with Cider or Sliders, the 3rd defenseman in a row taken making our top 3 picks all defenseman, that's pretty cool and maybe a 1st but I have no idea and am not looking it up. Seider is a great pick for New England, 4th in tpe in the draft with 319, the big German defenseman at 6'4" and 196 pounds should be a rock on the blue line for the Wolfpack for the next decade plus. Great job and we wish Seider the best!

4.  Patriotes  F- Mads McBride.

Hmm can I relate this name to food.. this is a tough one but Mcbride makes me think of Ireland and Ireland is known for potatoes so that's cool. I think we all like potatoes and they are great in many formats, fries, hash browns, tots, mashed, baked, etc. Ok I did it again sorry about that, it's just who I am. Yeah so Mads McBride, nice pick here and I think Montreal traded a lot to get this pick at 4 with buffalo but  could be mistaken and I'm not double checking so let's just go with it. McBride is a 6 foot 198 pound winger with an unkown place of birth, wow that's odd but I guess he's a bit of an enigma. Obviously Montreal was not concerned about his country of origin and saw something they loved and moved up to take hm at #4. A great pick and a well known shl member, this should be a cornerstone piece of Montreal and is our first forward taken in the S64 draft, congrats and best of luck to Mads Potato!

5.  Rage  D- Chad Nickelback.

This name I may not be able to relate to food.. which I know you will all be disappointed about, but the last name Nickelback obviously reminds me of the band which reminds me of the late 90's, a time I was eating a lot of fast food and pizza delivery. A simpler time in life when we all had less to worry about, although you had to talk to someone on the phone to order the pizza which was a bummer. It's better today because you can just order pizza online or through an app and never have to talk to anyone until it arrives at your door, even then you can probably tell them just leave it outside and go away. Hey I found a way to talk about food and being anti-social so that's always a good combo. Speaking of combos I haven't had them in a while but the pizza flavor was always my favorite. Wow Chad Nickelback, a top earning Defenseman and great pick for the Rage at 5. I've been on a team with the member Flowseiden before and he's a great guy and nice addition to any locker room. We wish the 5'11" 195 pound Canadian defenseman the best in Manhattan, there's great pizza there so that's also nice, hey this worked out pretty well!

6. Blizzard G- Justin Time.

Wow a goalie at 6 that's rare but exciting, let me see if I can relate his name to food... Just in time for dinner! Ok I did it, not a lot of meat on the bone there but you can season food the spice called Thyme so maybe that counts. Now to the player.. A top earner in the draft Justin Time was 5th in tpe on draft day and Edmonton must really need a goalie taking him quite early but obviously see him as a franchise player and someone who will fill their net for a very long time. Locking up that position with a higher earner like J.Time means they won't have to worry about goaltending for a while which is always good. We wish Justin Time the best and hopefully when edmonton plays Calgary he's not in time to make all the saves!

7. Dragons F- Evan Winter.

Can I relate this name to food... well Winter makes me think of staying in the house where it's warm and eating lots of hot foods like chili, stew and soups. Good stick to the ribs food in the winter that warms you up, some of my favorites. I actually made a great chili the other day, let's just say it was a gift that kept on giving and filled the room with much fragrance. Ok so now to the player picked by my team! What an absolute steal. One of the best all-time members on the site and someone I have wanted to play with my entire time in the SHL. RED finally finds his way to Calgary and I couldn't be happier about it, he should have gone 1st overall and we got him at 7. It's a landslide home run victory for Calgary and I'm fucking ecstatic. Evan Winter is a 6'2" 207 pound German born winger who will no doubt become a franchise player for the Dragons. As he does with all his players he will become one of the best to put on the jersey, which is saying a lot since Calgary has had some greats. Evan Winter will be a future Dragons legend no question about it! Best of luck and thankgod we picked you!

8. Wolfpack F- Outdoor Truck.

Hey I love food trucks, there's lots of different kinds of food trucks like taco trucks, philly cheese steak trucks, classic food trucks with hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers etc. I've even seen donut trucks and once saw a Pierogi truck which almost killed me I ate so many. Oh I've also gotten a lobster roll from a seafood truck which was great but cost like 25 bucks. One of my dreams is to retire and start a Parm Truck, which would obviously not surprise anyone here. Ok so Outdoor Truck, the 3rd forward taken in the draft and 2nd pick by the Wolfpack, they get a good earner and member who has been around a while so I assume this will be a nice pick for New England, which make sense because that lobster roll I got was at a food truck in cape cod. The 6'5" 225 pound winger brings size and will definitely help New England win games for a long time. All the best!

9.  Barracuda  F- Lord Zomp.

This is going to be a tough one.. can I do it.. can I relate this name to food.. what the heck is a zomp I have no idea but Lord reminds me of Lords and Ladies from olden times in England and also from Game of Thrones where they ate a lot of roasted chicken, duck and venison or whatever meat was available and they had servants bring it to them which is always cool because you don't have to get up and get it yourself and sometimes they were hot women which is obviously a bonus for us Lords. Ok I did it, that was tough but I did it. The player Lord Zomp is a 6ft 195 pound American born winger who should develop into a strong player for Tampa Bay in the future, the member Zomp has been around a couple years also which is always good. This is Tampa's 2nd pick in the top 10 and is looking like a strong draft for them so far. Best of luck to Lord Zomp in Tampa!

10.  Specters  F- Mikael Jakobsen.

Another tough one to relate to food but give me a minute to think about it.. well he went to new orleans which is the cajun food capital of the world so we're going to count that. The word Jakobsen is in some regard close to the dish called Jambalaya with at least a few similar letters so Mikael Jambalaya counts here but I realize it's a stretch and tbh I am getting hungry. The player Jakobsen is a 6'2 206 pound Swedish Winger from the user Banackock who has been around the site a long time and made a few real good players. NOLA should be getting a very solid earner who is a safe pick with upside at #10 and they'll definitely get a lot of out of this selection. We wish Mikael Jambalayasen the best in NOLA!

Bonus Recaps:

18. Dragons F- Godwin Lupercal.

This players username is Doriotomancer which I can say brings me great joy and fills my imagination with floating bags of doritos circling around him and being controlled by his tremendous connection with the dark arts of Doritomancing. To say this guy is a perfect fit in Calgary would be an understatement. He's already talking about coming out with a Dragon breath fire Dorito flavor. The player Godwin Lupercal is a great looking young forward, 6'1" 205 pounds out of Germany, making him the 2nd German player Calgary has take in this draft. Lupercal has a great future ahead of him and should develop into a very strong player for Calgary in the coming seasons! Best of luck and keep up the good work!

24. Dragons F- Michael Byfuglin.

Any player with a name similar to NHL big man Dustin Byfuglien clearly enjoys food otherwise he would have picked a different render and player name. The username here is Leatherneckmike and leather comes from cows which are delicious. Majority of us love to eat cows in the form of burgers and steaks. So we celebrate Byfuglins love of beef and he is a welcome addition to Calgary! The player is 6ft 200 pound American born winger with a lot of upside as his user has a ton of sim league experience. This could be a real steal out of the 2nd round for Calgary as he's poised to make his mark in the SHL. We're excited to have Byfuglin on the Dragons and wish him the best of luck, keep at it!

Well there you have it, this was suppose to be a normal draft recap but once I started talking about tater tot parm I clearly derailed. Hopefully 1-3 people enjoyed the humor. Best of luck to all the draft picks on their remaining SMJHL careers and their eventual SHL careers!

Cheers
