My new teammates were super excited to meet me!  Of course they've seen me in the World Championships before so everyone knows who I am.  I summersaulted into a conference room where the team was watching the draft, shook our head coaches hand and he thanked me for making the jump over and welcomed me to the team.  I wasn't nervous at all to meet the coach but the captains really made me nervous.  Late round or not, I was still a first round pick with a good amount of hype around me.  Young players with high expectations like that can be off putting for veterans sometimes.  But they were all super welcoming and took me on a tour of the locker room and arena.  All the signs being in French will take some adjusting to but I been picking it up pretty well so far.  Quebec City has been great to me so far and I can't wait to see how far we can go.

Colorado was truly a welcoming place when I first arrived in the locker room. It wasn't much of a secret who the team would be selecting so everyone was kinda just waiting for me with open arms. From teammates to the GM and the Co as well as alumni, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. When we drafted our next few picks, I tried to be equally as welcoming as I knew how much I had appreciated it coming in. Quickly after the draft was over and we were all chatting, the GMs started organizing a game night so that we can all get together and get to know each other a bit better. I for one can't wait as this is exactly the type of LR experience I enjoy in the SHL. There's nothing wrong with a quiet LR and from time to time it can be quite welcome, but there's something special about an active LR that gets together even when there aren't games on and I can't wait to be a part of it.

I arrived in Anaheim, and things are great. It seems like there was quite a bit of housekeeping done. There’s a brand-new locker room with the Outlaw front and center, mounted and lit up on the ceiling. The jerseys are crisp, and I can’t wait to wear them for the first time. I really had some great conversations with the management team in Anaheim prior to the draft, and I couldn’t be happier to land here for my Juniors career.
I’ve been getting to know my new teammates. We brought in quite a few draftees outside of myself, Andrew Kiehl, Adison Bond, Billy Blazes, Reed Kobo, Marty Sanderson III and Patches the III. That’s quite the draft class! Stephan Gill and Connor O’Byrne seem to be the leaders of the club, and it’ll be good to learn from them as I start my journey in the J. The future is here, and I can’t wait to take the next step.

Awesome, my team mates welcomed me and the other juniors in a very unique way, started blasting songs about winning, all we’ll do is win we hope. I see all smiles that one day i hope to call friends. The other new guys were awesome too, excited like me to have an opportunity like this, we must not watch in the past but see our future as we want it to be, together. I was actually pretty scared but i just thought that i wanted to be in the moment and worry not about other things, after all it’s a party. I see the manager with the scouting agent that chose me and thank them a lot. Like the draftees do. Even if i’m nervous i go meet the captain too, i hope not to say the wrong thing, but i see he’s a good guy that knows how hard the first day can be!

When I walked into the locker room for the first time, my teammates were quite welcoming. My teammates asked how I was right away, and wanted to know things about me. I really appreciate the things that they’ve done for me since I’ve joined. It’s been an amazing experience so far. They have been really helpful in giving me a tour of the locker room, and introducing me to all the guys there. I was able to meet all the other guys there during the practices by just hanging out with them, practicing our shots together. A couple of our guys even went out to a bar to get a few beers for the night. The Vancouver Whalers have been really kind to me so far, and I think that I will for sure enjoy my stay here. My GM is amazing, and has been welcoming from the very beginning.

As M’Baku enters the Regina Elk locker room for the first time, about a dozen sets of eyes lock onto him. The team didn’t plan anything special before the rookies’ first day of practice—they were expected to get to work immediately, then have a more relaxed afternoon of celebration and teambuilding.

In Baku’s case, several people in that room remembered him. While he was not included in the WJC tournament last year—Team World notably left him off the roster—he did play against the Elk in one game as a DFA with Nevada. While Regina won that game, Baku did get into it with Landon Fischerman early in the 2nd period, earning the ire of several Elk veterans. While no one said it explicitly, it was clear there might be some hard feelings. Those that didn’t look at him with resentment looked with some apprehension and fear. It’s not everyday you see a 6-4 19 year old built like a NFL linebacker playing hockey.

The other rookies responded much more favorably. While he played with a physical edge and did his share of trash talking during the rookie showcase, many of M’Baku’s peers seemed glad he was on their team now. One in particular--David-Arturri Donskoi, affectionately known as DAD—hit it off with Baku immediately. While many people find Baku’s special brand of prickly arrogance unpleasant, DAD seemed to immediately find the gruff Nigerian good company. They paired up for lifting and found the other an equal competitor for their drive.

Baku attended the afternoon teambuilding sessions and participated with a bemusedly arrogant look on his face the entire time. No one vocally acknowledged it, as the coaches found his involvement adequate if a bit indifferent.

JoJo came into the locker room just as @G2019 was about to perform his special dance routine to the tune of Madonna - Lucky Star. He could tell immediately that this was not the best time to meet his new teamates, but also somewhere in the back of his mind, knew that it certainly would not be the worst time to meet them. JoJo, being a good locker room guy, always up for a laugh with the fellas, decided he would perform his dance for the onlooker's amusement. He jumped up on the bench in the middle of the room, and started kicking his legs and jerking his arms 'akimbo', similar to the Elaine style dance form Seinfeld. In addition to the dancing, he amazed all the veterans by knowing every word from verse and chorus. There was raucous applause and whistling, that settled down into good natured heckling. JoJo had made his entrance!

When patches walked into the Anaheim locker room the first person he meet was the his soon to be partner on the blue line, Lord Farquaads who hopefully will be on a line together started off by a small talk about how the weather and the top of the line arena that’s in Anaheim, When it was time to checkout the lockers for each home game he walked in and in and found his spot right away their was a Red Water bowl sitting right and the bottom and on top on a gold plate “Patches The III” he was amazed at how nice it was and after he took it all in it was finally time to meet with the coaches and the general managers, they welcomed him with open arms as he walked through the office door as he sat down they quickly laid out the plan they have for not only patches but also for the future. They made it very clear we would be the guys they are gonna build around, and we can chose our own success. Let’s go Outlaws!!

Luckily Hynek Heidinger was already acquainted with the Colorado Raptors as he was signed as a UDFA. During his short time with the team Heidinger got to know most of the team and get a feel for how the vibe of the team and locker room is. During the draft Heidinger was there at the stadium with his family when his name got called 28th overall by the Raptors. After the draft he celebrated with his family at home with lots of food and alcohol. The next day Heidinger met with his team and they went out for drinks and celebrated getting drafted along with his fellow Raptors draftees. Knowing all of his teammates and management already helped Heidinger settle in and wasn’t as much of a change compared to if he was coming into the locker room fresh. Right away after the festivities, the dynamic changed and you could feel the excitement within the group. A weekly games night was being planned and players were interacting with the newbies getting to know them and their hobbies. It has been a fun time so far and there’s lots more fun to be had, Heidinger looks forward to starting his career with the Raptors and hopefully making a name for himself.

As I walked into the Regina locker room I immediately noticed the welcoming nature of the team. For example right away they were teaching me where to spend tpe and where to get it from. Along with this they had private chats where you could go for one on one advice. They all were talking about the predictions and what we should be doing, very friendly environment. They did not give me a strict set of rules of where to spend tpe and gave a nice friendly intro to the league. Overall great teammate intro and was a organized locker room. To welcome me and the other draftees they dmed us the invite aswell as had a new role for us. Along with a rookie help channel and the one on one chats as I mentioned earlier, right away we were negotiating contracts for our future. One of the best intros to a team a player could ask for. Thank you so much elks. GO REGINA.
