Before we get to the last two player Awards, let’s jump back to the behind the scenes people for a second. The Damian Littleton Award might be the most important trophy we hand out each season, as it honors members who do a lot for our community as a whole. At the same time it is also one of the toughest ones to determine however, as so many great contributions go unnoticed or are taken for granted by the people who aren’t directly involved with them. So let me take this opportunity to tell you that if you think that there is someone who has gone above and beyond in a season, sacrificing his team and/or resources to help this league be the best version of it that it can be, then please reach out to us and let us know about that person! A few people did so already this season, so thank you to them. And here are your nominees…

Looking at the other two nominees there's no way for the voting to NOT be close. Congrats to Stromberg and Victory on stellar seasons as well! What better measure of a top player is there than performing when it matters the most? And the Anton Razov Trophy for Playoff MVP honors the players who do just that. And here are your nominees…
A Jobin @Jobin If you carry your team to a Challenge Cup as a goaltender then you’ll always have a good case for the Razov. But A Jobin went above and beyond for the Steehawks this season with an insane 0.932 Save-Percentage and 1.87 Goals Against Average. He also managed to find another level in the Finals as well, only giving up 6 goals in the 5 games that brought his team the cup after losing the first game of the series. Olof Karsikko @Accka Only in his Sophomore season, Olof Karsikko was probably the most consistent goalie of these Playoffs. His 0.932 Save-Percentage is tied with Jobin for the lead and he also led all goalies with 4 Shutouts while posting a very impressive 2.03 Goals Against Average. Karsikko only lost a total of 4 games en route to the finals before holding his own but narrowly losing against the juggernaut that is the Steelhaws. Rotticus Scott @RotticusScott Talking about that Steelhawks juggernaut, maybe their best Skater this postseason was forward Rotticus Scott. Scott led the league in points (23), goals (11) and hits (56) and all Hamilton players with a +12 rating, a prime power forward performance that won him a Challenge Cup. And the Winner of the S63 Anton Razov Trophy for Playoff MVP is…

And here we go, this is the big one. The Ron Mexico Award is handed out to the player deemed the Regular Season MVP by the Awards Committee. Do I really need to say more about this one? So let’s get right to it, your nominees, the best of the best who played in the SHL this season…
Ethan Duncan @mastersheep Interestingly enough, the player who won the “popular vote” for the Sarmad Khan Trophy, Daniil Nikiforov, didn’t even make the Top-3 in the Committee vote but one of his teammates did, and this teammate is Ethan Duncan. Duncan finished the season second in league scoring with 90 points, racking up 40 goals and beating out teammate Nikiforov in the various possession categories, TA/GA ratio and plus-minus, which might be why the Committee gave him the nomination over his higher-scoring Platoon teammate. Anton Mihailov @Mr. Finland The Inferno surprised a lot of people this season especially with their play early in the year, and a lot of that is due to the performance of their newly-minted superstar Anton Mihailov. With his 83 points, Mihailov outscored his next best teammate by 18 points and led the team in both goals and assists. His defensive performance was strong as well, as he spend over a minute per game on the penalty kill, collecting 97 Hits and 144 Blocks along the way while being one of his team’s best possession players. Sven Svensson @LordBirdman Last up we have Sven Svensson out of San Francisco. His 90 points weren’t just good enough for second in the league tied with Ethan Duncan, it also put him 21 points ahead of his next highest scoring teammate which is the biggest margin among all teams. Unsurprisingly Svensson led the Pride in both goals and assists and he also put up 124 Hits while playing big minutes on his squads special teams. And the Winner of the S63 Ron Mexico Award for Regular Season MVP is… |
