S64 PT #1: All or Nothing

Hockey Prompt:

Heading into Season 64, there is plenty of reason for optimism in Detroit, as the upstart Falcons look to be contenders for the first time in nearly ten seasons. There are storylines aplenty, but we'll start with the moves they made to get here. The Falcons snagged Detroit alum Reid (C Jobin) in the 1st round, and although he's off to a slow start, he shows all the promise of a top player in the coming seasons. Joining him on the Falcon's 4th line is Ox Monkey (JoJo Larkin), whom Detroit traded into the 2nd round to get. Rounding out the new members of the squad are 1st line defenseman Wendolene Ramsbottom, a 425 capped player acquired via trade from STL, and Eddie Creller, a 425 capped winger acquired via trade from ANA.

Stepping back from the new additions, we get to see plenty of new capped folks on the ice. The dynamite class of rookies from last season have hit their 350 TPE benchmarks and Moritz Seider, Holden Steady, Johnny Patey, and Toms Zile are ready to step up and make an even bigger impact this season after impressive rookie years. The S63s have come into their own as well, with Bubba Tree, Evert Jansson, Sam Azjha, Ivan Lacksamus, and Mrs. McSaves all at or near the 425 cap, and grizzled veterans like Sconnie McHits, Zayne Dangle, Akashi Six-Nine Jr, and Rodrigo Rivic hoping to make some noise before their J careers end. No matter which angle you follow, it will be intriguing to see if this team can live up to expectations, compete for their divisions/conference, and make noise in the playoffs!

Hockey Prompt

The Seattle Argonauts would make an excellent subject for a behind the scenes documentary. This season in particular has some interesting wrinkles to it.

Last season was very much the end of an era, with the first and, up to this point, only captain of the Argonauts, Cassius Darrow, retiring. The mantle has been taken by fan favourite forward Vaseline Podcalzone. Seeing how he adapts to full leadership, following time as an Alternate Captain will be fascinating. Also, seeing how their new Alternate Captain steps up would be interesting!
Away from leadership, how they do on-ice will be very interesting. Last season, they made some big moves, bringing in top-tier forward talent like Hobbes and Pritchard, as well as, well Slate. And a returning franchise ‘legend’ in Cleary. This signalled the intention for a serious cup run, and they finished the regular season with their first divisional championship. They struggled in the playoffs, being taken to 7 games by a team they steamrollered in the regular season, before losing out in the second round, to eventual conference champions LA. Can they go further this year?

Dave Heinrich: So I notice the team has been a part of a new series and I think I am the only player on the team that has not seen an interview request related to it. Shouldn't I be trying to make a good impression on everyone as a captain for the team?

Agent Tesla: You are a man who was willing to sell his soul for glory and for those reasons belong to me. The exact kind of person I would not want to represent a team that I have grown to love far more than I had anticipated. So I would rather not risk you saying the wrong thing to the wrong person to cause this all to come crashing down.

Dave Heinrich: We've been working together for years now and you don't even trust me enough to let me in front of a camera? And they just are going along with this?

Agent Tesla: I have trust in your talents on the ice, your willingness to work with the team, and that I can leave you to your own devices most of the time. You have had zero training on deal with the public at large and know far more than I trust just about anyone with on account of how I recruited you though. That means I am far more cautious in letting you talk to the media. The team meanwhile does not have a choice in the matter as I have been magically diverting the crew from you with something like an SEP field.

Dave Heinrich: Oh, so this is more to do with media being willing to dig for a story than in your lack of trust in me?

Agent Tesla: Exactly! Now if you would like to see some more time in the limelight I can make that happen, but you will need to be coached ahead of time on what you are allowed to talk about.

Dave Heinrich: I'd rather focus on helping the team right now, but if you think me making an appearance would be for the best I'd be happy to do it.

Agent Tesla: Well then for now continue to focus on leading on the ice and I will prepare an opportune time for you to shine off the ice.

I think this is a really interesting season in the overall story of the Forge. You've still got a lot of the old players on the roster, some of which have been around since the team's very first season and are still playing really high level hockey, and you've also got some of the next generation coming through and making their names as players to look out for in the future. I think it's probably going to be another season where on the whole we finish in the middle of the pack, but I'm really excited to see how players like Conner Snook and Hans Graf are able to go out and show what they can do, in addition to some of the veterans like Kaarlo Kekkonen and First-Name Last-Name who are coming toward the later stage of their careers and will want to really show that they've still got some spark left in them. I think maybe the Forge aren't looked at as the biggest storyline in the league this year, but I think people will look back on this one and note it as the time when the identity of the change really started to pass from one generation to the next, the baton was passed and people really saw the foundations of a great generation of Forge hockey being built.

Prompt 2:

I would say that GK is a player that does not really like being the center of attention, and usually seeks to slink away into the background. Usually GK will leave the interview to other players to handle however in the off chance they want to interview him, then he will step up to the plate reluctantly. Honestly speaking to make himself less likely to be interviewed he is usually one of the last to enter the dressing room, attempting to merge himself with the crowd of players entering the room. In addition to that he typically keeps his head down, when sitting at his bench, and put’s in earbuds and cranks up his own music, to show that he does not want to be distrubed. Occasionally if he notices someone approaching him for an interview from a distance he will get up and claim to need to use the restroom so that he can avoid that confrontation, and media time.

HOCKEY PROMPT -

Here's your storyline:

S61: 11 pts
S62: 11 pts
S63: 25 pts
S64: 6 pts in 9 games

This team is on an extremely vertical trajectory. Since the management change is S62, this team has added to many prospect pieces and has even become a free agent destination. All eyes around the SHL are on the Aurora's soon-to-be explosion. The Aurora's prospect pool is so deep, there is concern that there are TOO MANY active players. The Locker Room is bangin' and there is no stopping this team.

Coming into S64, the Aurora landed a few high profile, young players via trade in Bas O'Bigbers, Ryuuji Kawashima, Stan Dindesque, and Parker Smeb. Danny Marston was added as a FA retiree, melding the experienced with the young. Winnipeg has some serious top-earning guns right now.

The TV show that needs to be followed is our 30 for 30 next season when we try to go all the way. The handful of top earning S62s will be called up wit the current top earners, creating a skill heavy team.

On a personal note, Marcel Beck is in the **perfect** position. As a rookie, he was the 1D on a very young team. He is projected to stay in that role for at least the next... 6 years? Leading the charge to imminent victory and letting the young guns carry his old body to even more cups. His garage could be full of hardware by the end.

Chimkin Wing is having a stellar, break out season, and it only took him five seasons. At least for now he is, but knowing him, he'll probably choke halfway through and finish with 34 points. He was also just named the captain of the Buffalo Stampede some how, even though his leadership is ass and his on ice product leaves much to be desired. Join us while we keep a watchful eye on Chimkin Wing and all the Buffalo Stampede as he slowly loses respect in the locker room as he completely falls off a cliff with his production on the ice. Will Chimkin Wing be stripped of his captaincy as his peers and team management realize he's a sham, or will he continue to fly under the radar and keep his nose to the grindstone, desperately clinging to some sort of relevancy so that people will remember him as a valiant leader and on ice producer instead of what he has become: an absolute joke. Only time will tell.

Written Task:  Does your player like being filmed? Are you a limelight seeker, or a player that prefers to be left alone? If it's the former, what kind of shenanigans are you pulling to ensure you get a ton of screen time in the final edit? If you're the latter, what clever maneuvers do you pull to keep yourself off of camera? A disguise? A convenient excuse? (150+ words).

Kawashima is a bit camera shy when it comes to recording things like ad campaigns or other team related media. However he does enjoy a good photoshoot. He does not like having to say lines and act in a certain way while a camera is capturing everything. He feels photography is way more refined and he can more controlled show himself.

He has done a ton of photoshoots in partnership with clothing and perfume brands which he has greatly enjoyed doing. Even smaller things like posing for team photos or appearing on a family photo he really enjoys. He liked capturing the moments and cameras are perfect for those small moments.

Paparazzi is a whole other ballpark though, as he does not own the control when it comes to these drama seeking pests. Who try to capture everyone at their worst, which Kawashima does not want to experience. He has gone through great lengths to avoid these people, even as far as dressing up as a bum.

PLAYER PROMPT- Maybe you weren't the one in the elevator, but whether you like it or not your team's been chosen for filming this season.

Karl doesn't enjoy the film crews always around. Besides liking to keep to himself normally, the camera crews make everything seem fake and not genuine. Things like team gatherings seem more forced, and instead of just hanging out there seems to be some goal past team chemistry. If some of the guys get together for bowling there has to be a competition for highest score now all of a sudden.
A side effect of the ever present cameras and crew is scripted dialogues. Sometimes you'll be pulled aside on your way in and told to ask a certain question, make a suggestion or do something. It's not genuine and clearly scripted, which takes the authenticity out of the game. Makes it so folks aren't really genuine.

One of the things that Karl likes about playing in Baltimore is that you usually aren't the biggest ticket in town. You can make a mistake and deal with it internally. This strips all that away. People ask stupid questions and you get chastised for giving stupid questions stupid answers. Some of these reporters make you want to throw a chair at them.

PLAYER PROMPT- Björn would absolutely try to avoid being filmed for anything outside rink and would use his leverage as long time member of the team to make sure it wouldn't be allowed. If that fails he would just be his charming self and wouldn't give fuck about the crew, He would complain about the crew and its presence to anyone willing to listen, crew as well as GMs and coach would be sure to know how unwanted their presence is and how much it disturbs focus of the people. And while it might only effect Björn his complaining about the issue would make also an issue for rest of the team who would get fed up. And should money be big enough that GMs would force him to give interviews he would do so in mix of Finnish and Swedish only to mess up with the interviewers and to make it harder to translate it all, hoping that all this makes it too much of fuss to bother him.

Narrator: ...However, that's not to say that all players of the Manhattan Rage gave us trouble to record them. One exception of note would have to be Anton Harrier, one of the team's wingers. Harrier, now in his early 20s, has been living in North America since his arrival to the juniors after a short life of traveling. Known for his taste for the exquisite, Harrier has been living at a formerly abandoned warehouse near Chinatown ever since moving in.

The camera crew film the inside of the warehouse, noticing Harrier and his girlfriend sitting on a couch in front of a TV set, playing some old PlayStation title.

Harrier: Yo, uh... y'all down for some Fighter's Impact?

Not too long later, the camera shows the cameraman playing with Anton while Kasumitsu watches behind them. Some fantasy creatures pass behind her.

Harrier: So, having an easy time with the rest of the lads?
Cameraman: Not really... they're not big into getting filmed.
Harrier: Eh, y'know. Some folks really value their privacy and all. We kinda ain't big on that ourselves.
Kasumitsu: Hm-hm. We're people of the people.
Harrier: I mean... people 'round here ain't a big threat, anyways. Dunno where they're comin' from.

A group of elves waves to the camera behind them, leaving with a bottle of milk.

Harrier: If ya wanna crash here for the week, it's all cool... though I think the media people will be a bit worried about what they see.
Cameraman: Because you live in a warehouse?
Harrier: Aye, I remember Nevada gave me guff 'bout it back when I lived there. I'm livin' perfectly fine, y'know. Also, that button there blocks.
Cameraman: Ah, thanks.
Harrier: Game's a bit complex but you'll get used to it, aye.

Player prompt

Jean-Uhtred Söderberg-Tremblay is just delighted that the Seattle Argonauts have been chosen to be the subject of this ambitious project. Jean-Uhtred just loves being in front of the camera, to his husband's Gunnar great disarray. Not only does JUST always want to by in front of the cameras at the arena and on the road, he encourages them to come to the couple's home and get a lot of shots of his personal lives, as much as Gunnar is comfortable with. For JUST, this might as well be a show just about him. Gunnar has to remind him constantly to let his teammates get some time on the screen as well, especially some of the younger people who are in their first SHL season like Max Manning and Willie Miller. These superstars in the making could benefit a lot from a big boost in popularity early, while JUST is old and soon washed up.

Prompt 1:

It's an exciting season for the Calgary Dragons for various reasons. The biggest is probably that for the only the 2nd time in 40 seasons the Dragons have a new GM tandem. Kez took over for Izzy after 5 seasons at the helm and before him it was Steelhead77 for 35 seasons, so this is a big deal and definitely something the media would want to follow. Kez hired Dragons 1st round draft pick from only a few seasons back DarkCanuck as his Co-GM and the two have been doing a great job! Even more exciting is another story line as both their players, Grogu Mandossen and Duncan Mackenzie were called up this season as high tpe rookies. They should be fun to watch and imo are both rookie of the year candidates. Another cool storyline is the Dragons named a new Captain in Luukas Lilja and new Alternates in Chris Goodname and Alexis Saint-Michel, which is a completely non-North American trio hailing from Finland, Latvia and the UK. Pretty awesome and definitely a first in Dragons franchise history. Lots to be excited about this season in Calgary and while we may not be a cup contender just yet we will play every game hard and try and win as much as possible. Once we make the playoffs anything can happen!
