Creative Prompt:

Practice yesterday was quite eventful. We hadn't been playing up to our standards lately so the coaches really put us to the grind in this practice. Tons of endurance drills and repeating basic hockey drills. We hadn't worked that hard in practice in a long time and it really showed. Players were hunched over, trying to catch their breath, and just spent. As champions now, the coaches expect that work ethic every game and they're right. It was a practice we needed, but nonetheless it was absolutely no fun. I think they knew that, though, because after practice they gave us the ice to ourselves and said finish up however you want, and they left.

We were all beat, but this was a great opportunity to do something that we all actually talked about before. A while ago, Donair bought a team set of laser tag gear for everyone. We played a few times at each other's house, but we always talked about playing on the ice. So, we told a trainer to get the operations staff to turn all the lights off while we filled the ice with obstacles and equipment to create a makeshift laser tag course.

We split the players into two groups and proceeded to play the craziest rounds of laser tag ever. It was pitch dark except for the glow of our vests and we were flying on the ice. It was a blast to just act like kids for an hour and really reset ourselves.

Creative Prompt:
There is no better time for everyone to learn of the choreographed figure skating routine that me and Lias Ekholm-Gunnarsson have been planning for the whole team. The theme is Frozen and of course Let It Go was chosen as the music. It starts with LEG and I spinning together in the center with everyone knelt down in a circle around us. The team slowly starts to rise and spin and waiving their arms from side to side while LEG and I start skating in-between them. This goes on for a bit until suddenly everyone skates outwards making a large circle around with me and Lias in the center. We suddenly turn to face each other and while skating full force toward one another jump and simultaneously pull off two triple axel jumps while we land back down arm in arm. What does this have anything practically to do with hockey? Not really, at least we get to practice skating and build more team chemistry. But it's mostly something me and Lias have been planning to try and convince everyone to dance.

Shylo likes to put Chinese symbols of dedication perseverance and hard work. It reminds him to always put the work in whether it's game day or it's a simple practice. Always work hard for the team and yourself. This is important and a critical thinking point in hockey. So you never over look the importance of giving it your all even when it's the smallest things on the ice. This is also sending a message to the entire team to persevere through all obstacles and adversity set in front of them. Understanding it all comes from their dedication to the sport and to each other. He always marks his skates every time he lands a hit on another player. He's always been taught to wear out his opponent physically. Always be aggressive in the sport. Bring the momentum show the teammates it's game on and time to bring the physicality.

May I present you to the greatest non-official sport in the world: Ice-ball.

Played by referees all over the world during IIHF tournaments, referee training and development camps and national and international referee educational weekends, the game of ice-ball has surprisingly few rules.

How to play:

- Divide all available people into two teams. Doesnt really matter how many players, but more is better and there are no substitutes. Everybody plays.
- Ice-ball is played with a ball, and two nets.
- There's no official goalie, but anyone can protect their net.
- The goal is to score with the ball in the other teams net.
- Players are allowed to glide, but not skate/make strides while holding the ball.
- Hitting / body contact is not allowed.
- If you drop the ball, you're not allowed to pick it up (a team member is)
- You can not move the ball behind your own net more than two times in the same phase of possession

Julian learned the game when he was invited to speak at a Swiss referee day about the way players would like referees to communicate with them. He instantly fell in love with Ice-ball and tries to get his team to join in a game at the end of practice all the time.

While the game is all about fun and team building, it also develops skills such as skating and positioning, as well as offensive and defensive read. Therefore it is a great addition to any hockey practice on a regular basis and everyone should be playing it all the time.

After practices are over for the day some of the Argos like to strap on all of their skates and pads and play flag football on the ice. The coaching staff approves and signs off on the activity because they believe that it helps with agility, balance and conditioning. For pass catchers, it can also help with hand eye coordination. On offense, Rhys usually plays a tight end position with a mix of blocking and receiving responsibilities. On defense, he prefers to rush the passer relentlessly. Rhys likes to brag that the team he's on has only lost a handful of times.
Seeing the interest that these players have in this post-practice game, the coaches have included a new drill in their practice routine. Players line up one versus one in one of the faceoff circles with no stick but wearing their skates. They use their hands and body weight to try to muscle each other out of the circle. Of course there is no tripping or other funny business that could lead to injury. The coaches believe that this "sumo" activity helps with strength and balance and could help the team win puck battles along the boards.

PLAYER PROMPT

Well, Petr doesn't necessarily enjoy being a professional hockey player nor does he have fun, I figured I'd use this prompt to delve into his gear.

Just like his body and mind, his gear is the subject of intense focus from the labs back home. Every piece of gear is broken down and analyzed to give Petr the greatest edge possible, especially in goal scoring. In the end, though, it's how said gear integrates with the players, as the equipment one uses can't change the player, no matter how hard you try.

Petr uses a custom Sherwood wooden stick. You would have thought that Petr would be using the high-end composite sticks, and while that's not the case, Petr's sticks do hide some secrets.

Petr's gloves and skates are custom made to perfection for Petr's hands and feet, essential considering Petr has spent most of his waking and ... non-awake hours with them on.

The rest of Petr's gear is all with protection of the county's most expensive asset in mind. His helmet, elbow pads, shoulder pads, and shin pads are all intended to protect Petr from injury and harm with all the risks of the game in mind.

The only meaningful theme among all of Petr's gear is the uniform color scheme of red, blue, and white.

CREATIVE PROMPT

Our favorite on ice drill to do is the gauntlet. Something that we didn't used to do but realized we needed a little more grit to our game. This was something some teams did when we were getting to the age where hitting entered the game. It's pretty simple, think of Gladiator. Two men enter, one man leaves. Well not really, it's basically sumo wrestling on ice, but ice the game goes on it changes from grappling each other to skating from the outside of the center ice circle toward each other as hard as you can to knock the other person out of it, grappling is way too tiresome for it to be a viable option. The positives? It's fun as hell cheering each other on in the ring, watching people go nuts when they win. The downside? We're all gonna have some serious CTE when we're finished with our soccer careers. Basketball careers? Damn, what sport are we playing again?

Blouin has a nephew named Louis who he really likes hanging out with. Louis made Luc a drawing that he said was of him playing hockey. It was hard to actually see a hockey player but Luc appreciated it anyways, so much so that he went out and got it made into a small badge that he had sewn onto his under shirt for games. When he's getting into his gear he takes a look at it to remind himself to have fun and not be too worried about how things go, the end result will always be great because he's doing something that he loves, like his nephew loves coloring Luc loves playing hockey and that is really what matters at the end of the day. He does get a lot of questions about what the heck the little badge is supposed to be but he brushes them off saying his nephew made it.

Prompt 2 - Magnus Liljestrom likes to personalize his gear by putting little fishies everywhere to remind himself to swim upstream, and keep swimming, and most importantly, to remind himself of his background and where he came from. That is not to say that he is ocean royalty like Namor, but from a fishing town that has tough work ethics and a never give up attitude. This hopefully helps console him as he has won zero cups and zero gold medals since graduating to the big leagues which is a pretty sad career for a 1st overall pick. This keeps him cheered up during sad times, like this season, when he's having the worst plus minus stat ever, and might have the lowest point totals since getting into the senior SHL league, but that is what happens when you get old. You get sad and maudlin, and your body is falling apart.

On the inside of Duncan Mackenzie's gloves are the initials EGC and RLM. The refer to his grandfathers who had a large influence on his growth and character. One was a hard working operating engineer who ran a crane in remote locations and bought a vineyard after retiring. The other was a wealthy Electrical Engineer who built a large firm from the ground up through the 1930s up to the 1980s. Both had different but important outlooks on life that was necessary to the growth of Mackenzie as a person and athlete. Knowing when to push and grind and knowing when to back off came from these two people. The other highly important skill learned from them was profanity. Both could swear as if it was an art form they had perfected. They could go on a ten minute rant and not repeat themselves. When you were on their bad side, they would let you know very bluntly, but then teach you how to do it better. DMack uses this when dealing with his teammates on and off the ice.
