Obviously I don't have the screenshots, but in my view, if you intentionally tampered by trying to get someone to void their IA contract, as the appeals committee is saying, I don't see what sort of honest intentions you could have there. Just wanting some clarification on that part

BUF GM initially reached out not knowing that the player in question was re-signed under the IA contract. That was missed by them when reaching out. That, we believe, was an honest mistake. Then, when finding this out, they may have felt that letting the player know there are avenues to void the contract may seem like helping the player out, but as a GM there is a line crossed there. There was intent to get the player to opt out and hopefully sign with BUF.

That's where the last part of the announcement comes into play. Hopefully find a better way for inactives to understand their options when returning without having opposing GMs feel the need to cross that line.

I hope that's clear.

I mean, the obvious question is how clear the intent was to have the player opt out to join Buffalo

“The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. ... There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.”

Yep, that's what tampering is. Regardless of perceived intent or good faith.

It was already a reduced punishment from what was outlined in the rulebook. This appeal change is disappointing in that.  HO came out and had an extremely fair decision considering what was outlined in the rulebook for punishment.

At that point though the intent is pretty clear though - the GM is tampering by wanting them to opt out and sign with their team, so I can’t say I understand the decision to lessen the punishment based off of the initial good faith action. Yes, Tomen didn’t know he was signed at first, but as soon as he did, he immediately forged ahead with tampering the player, and that, IMO, doesn’t deserve leniency because of his initial confusion. The conversation should've ended at “hey I’m signed to Tampa”

Can a GM tell a returning IA that they will sign them if they void their contract? Genuinely curious if we are expecting returning IAs to blindly void their contracts or if they can actually plan the move before voiding themselves so they don't just end up not playing anywhere.

Just an observation but it seems like every appeal on this site is favorable to the one being punished. At what point do the rules even matter to the degree they are outlined?

I don't have a strong opinion on the appeal on question

Since I’ve been on the appeals team (granted only to hear this and the EDM regression last season) I feel like we’ve done a good job finding a balance between keeping the punishments in place while keeping it fair. We cut the suspension in half for Soap while keeping the GM pay and 3rd round pick penalty in place, and here all we did was give the 2nd round pick back. I may be biased but I feel the appeals committee has done a good job, even before I joined the committee, of finding that balance of enforcing the rules without going overboard.

Wasn't trying to imply they've done a bad job, merely that it seems their will is somewhat at odds with the will of whoever writes the rules. Maybe it's meant to be a soft buffer like that

I saw soft buffer as soft butter and… well… no one likes hard butter. Especially on toast. God what a nightmare. We need heated knives.

Thread recipe: buttered toast

Ingredients
1. Sliced bread
2. Butter

Step 1: toast bread in the toaster
Step 2: spread butter on newly toasted bread

Note: butter is easier to spread when soft

This right here.

There is nothing that will piss me off more than someone not reloading the butter dish when at less than a 1/4 stick. No one wants chunky butter sitting on a war torn piece of warm, golden brown toast.

Instructions unclear, I now have a tin foil hat and it's greasy.
