I’m gonna try something new this season to get myself back into the groove of writing media. My last one was ages ago so hopefully I remember how to do it. It’s not gonna be any kind of revolutionary media piece or massive graphs. I’m gonna start reviewing and talking about key plays that happened during the sim(which honestly will probably just be the goals). But only for games where my team, the New England Wolfpack, had a live sim. The moving of the players in the sim is of course not really indicative of proper player movement. But it gives me something to go on and makes writing these things easier. I definitely recommend this for someone who’s having media writer’s block. Now, to the game!
![]() ![]() Final Score: 4 - 2 1st period, 18:45 left on the clock So, you know how sometimes games don’t really start off the way you wanted them to? This was one of those cases. On the very first shift of the very first game of the season, we let in a goal after just 15 seconds. As I was on the ice at the time, all I can say is we just weren’t ready. We lose the face off and immediately they have us pushed back into our own zone. We quite literally just let them walk over us as we started backing up with force after being caught by surprise by Montreal’s aggression. Makrus and myself battled with Dwayne and Mads just inside our blue line to try and get it out. But ultimately they made a passing play between the two of them that made us focus on the wrong player while Mads got free sight at the net and plenty of time to shoot. And as you might’ve guessed by now, he didn’t miss. New England 0-(1) Montreal 1st period, 15:49 left on the clock After the initial shock we started to get more pressure in Montreal’s zone. We had for a good minute stuck around and had a couple of dangerous chances. There were solid passing plays between all five of us. The puck moved around the zone a lot until Cup Noodle fired a pass in my direction which I slammed on net. My shot was saved by Brick Wall, but our forwards were on top of it and Jayson was able to put it in to tie the game! New England (1)-1 Montreal 3rd period, 18:19 left on the clock This period it was our time to get out ahead on an unprepared opponent. The second period had been a great contest but with no more goals. Early on the third we decided to change that. Or more specifically, Burlok and Ivan decided to change that. They showed off some real pretty passing plays between each other to navigate their way through the Montreal defense. They got a solid shot on goal but it was blocked and bounced over to Jonny who immediately gave it back to Ivan. Another fancy passing play ended with a shot that missed the net. But Burlok dove into the masses of Montreal players to dig it out and send it back up front to Noodle who just couldn’t miss! New England (2)-1 Montreal 3rd period, 17:42 left on the clock While we were practically still celebrating taking the lead Montreal decided that they didn’t want to be at a goal disadvantage. From the very next face off they took control and basically repeated what they did for their first goal of the game: Pushed down the left side. After some rink-wide passes between Montreal’s Mads and Sconnie, Mads was able to put it home. It showed pretty poor coverage on our part. While the passes were tape-to-tape, we shouldn’t allow those to happen in our own zone. New England 2-(2) Montreal 3rd period, 13:15 left on the clock Montreal’s Denisova was all alone on a breakaway. With four Wolfpack players on his heels he didn’t have much time to come up with a fancy deke. He made a quick move to the right but good ole Olof Karsikko easily followed and swallowed the puck. No goal! 3rd period, 10:00 left on the clock Burlok and Jayson have shown amazing chemistry so far in this game. And they do it again to combine for New England’s third goal! An offensive rush started from Makrus in the neutral zone as he passed the puck to a mostly open Burlok on Montreal’s blue line. This allowed for an odd man rush where Burlok and Jayson had a passing party where they sent the puck flying back and forth between one another three times before Jayson put the puck away behind Brick Wall who had gambled and went down into butterfly just before the last pass happened. 3-2 New England! New England (3)-2 Montreal 3rd period, 0:05 left on the clock Not much to say about this one. Montreal had pulled their goalie and we managed to get possession. Some nice moves to get into the offensive zone opened up for Makrus to wrap it all up for us.
