S69 SMJHL oPT - One Season at a Time
#1

With the finals over, some of us are now beginning to look towards the SHL Draft. Under the draft spotlight, your careers will soon take the next step and times will only fly by quicker. But right now, let's take a deep breath and step back for one second here.
Task: You just played out your very first season in the SMJHL to start a new chapter in your career. Overall, how would you say you performed in your rookie season? Did you meet expectations you set for yourself individually? What do you need to improve on for next season? Were there any glorious moments that will forever be enshrined in your memory? (100 words min.)
You will receive 2 TPE for fulfilling all the requirements.
Only S69 SMJHL Rookies (S70 SHL Draftees) are eligible for this PT.
Do not claim this TPE until a post is made in the claim thread.
Deadline: the S70 SHL Entry Draft
Finally, as this will be the last SMJHL PT you will do, on behalf of the SMJHL PT Team, I'd like to congratulate you all for completing the first season of hopefully many great ones. We wish you best of luck in your future careers!

After just finishing my first season in the SMJHL I'd say I have mixed feelings. I didn't get to take part in the minors draft but the Vancouver Whalers were nice enough to pick me up on waivers so I had a home. As far as my performance goes, I was given every opportunity to shine and I'm really happy with how my season went. I led the Whalers in goals (27) and points (54) which was a pleasant surprise. I also led the league in goals by a rookie and fourth in points which was also quite nice. Due to starting late, I JUST missed out on some TPE so I am catching up so I want to focus on earning that TPE and continue training, and hopefully getting drafted!

Grisha Uskjal definetly feels as if he could have done more for the raptors but at the same time he is very happy with his time there. While that might seem contradictory, it is due to the excelent training and developement he has been granted access to in Colorado. Uskjal could not imagine a better team to be developing his skills at and therefore the underwhelming personal and (more importantly) team success, he is confident he is being honed into the best player he could be. He already has began showing defensive capabilities and since that is the focal point of his game, it provides a good basis for future developement. Hopefully Uskjal will be able to repay his team and deliver success on the ice. All in all while expectations were not met, Uskjal doesnt see that as negative.

Iliket Urtles has just finished his rookie SMJHL season with the Maine Timber. And overall it was a really good season for him. For some random reason im going to compare him to a now retired Norwegian player A. Scianna even though Scianna was a Defenseman who played for Kelowna in S51. In his rookie season Urtles got more goals, assists, shots, and hits. so statistically it was a better season. one of the few thins Scianna has over him was making the 4 Star Cup finals in his rookie season, but the Timber were a good team this season and had a good shot at it, but were bested by the Carolina Kraken

I was looking at hitting around 20 goals this season and i didn’t quite get there but i was pleased with the 39 pts on 3rd line minutes, I felt that the Grizzlies gave me a home the second i was drafted and was so willing to help with any issues. I’m hoping to take a step forward with my scoring ability as i’m looking at building a sniper. We were really strong on our last 20 games and pushed for playoffs but we were taken out in game 7. Next season i’ll be way stronger and capable of helping the team in a big way.

Thank you Grizzlies!

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff that keep the SMJHL running. Without you, this wouldn't be possible for any of us.

In my very first season in the SMJHL, it exceeded all expectations of what I thought it would be. I would have never thought that by the end of my first season I would be an assistant captain on the team, help the war room with scouting, an update auditor, and Co-GMing team Canada at the WJC. Safe to say that I have dove head first into the deep end, and I am not only surviving, but thriving.

In terms of on ice performance, I am satisfied with my play. I have made a positive impact on my team, growing on and off the ice, inside the locker room. With my continued growth I only expect better performances from myself and my team. A memory that really stood out to me this season was our locker room growing stronger despite the growing pains we were experiencing on the ice and in the standings. We rallied together and showed real heart in the post season.

I am looking forward to being drafted and showing that I belong in the league. However, I do have unfinished business, I would like to win and bring the cup to the Yukon before my time is done in the SMJHL.

As a recreate I pretty much knew what to expect coming back into the league in terms of performance, play time and all of that. I wasn't sure which team I would sign for, and I was nervous about getting back into sim leagues in general for silly reasons. It's been really nice to find a home in Maine. I figured that no matter where I landed I would at least be able to tolerate it, but with the Timber I genuinely enjoy the atmosphere and just hanging out with people from the team. The management and older players are all great.

I'd say that Darnell II played a little under my expectations. My first player came up during the STHS era, and while I coached in the SHL for a while in the FHM era, it was in the SHL and before some of the TPE scale reworks, so I didn't really know what to expect exactly. I thought back to some of our prospects from back in the day, and helping them develop, but obviously a 450~ player entering the bigs isn't going to compare to a fresh recreate earning their first TPE. That being said, I did come into the season late, and I missed some opportunities for TPE gain, and I'm certain that my build wasn't optimal. I'm thankful that the people here in Maine were helpful nonetheless, and encouraged me all the way. Good folks.

Well, can't complain too much I reckon considering I banked me TPE and barely updated. 30 points is actually a little more than I expected to get for my first season so I am very happy with my offensive production. Managed to get into two fights this season and I won one. Hopefully will be able to improve on that result in the future. Defensively I like where I am at, lots of blocked shots which is nice to see. Fair amount of hits but not all that many, could use some improvements there. My TA/GA ratio looks real nice so Robins positioning and defensive read is definitely in a good place I would say.

Overall, very pleased with my rookie season. Things can only get better from here though!

I dont think the season could have gone any better for Smurfunkel Dothe. Drafted to a team that was in rebuild mode only for Dothe and other rookies leading the way for the entire league in terms of rookie output. QCC was seen before the season as a middle of the pack team as well. Thanks to contributions from the rookies on the roster and the playoff performance of the best postseason in SMJHL history by Jack St. Clair, the team found themselves winning the championship quite easily. With his rapid improvement and more minutes next year, Dothe will almost certainly outperform his 55 point regular season and 24 point postseason.

Tibuk Soonika had a really good first season with the Kelowna Knights. Splitting time with Sea Jebus, Tibuk was able to help contribute to a successful winning team and put up respectable numbers for a rookie. Kelowna had a great run over the course of the regular season but unfortunately did come up a bit short in the playoffs. I think really the team goal this year was to be improved from last season and they were definitely able to nail that. Next season a few key players are going to be moving on so hopefully with the good S69 draft class we can start to fill in a few of those holes and keep up the good work.

Personally, this season of Lasse's was definitely a win in my opinion, but at the same time it could have been better. Lasse met a lot of personal achievements, like hitting a good number of points, over - acheiving on his goals, and his assists were at a respectable level, but not as good as he wanted. But personal achievements are not what Lasse is playing for. He wants that Four-Star cup in his hands, but he wants it in St. Louis so he is working harder than ever to make that dream a reality. And with the rebuild the Crows are in at the moment, the future surely is bright.

Being a rookie is an exciting but challenging experience. It is the beginning of a new chapter in an athlete's career, and it requires a lot of hard work, dedication, and mental toughness. As a rookie, you are new to the league, and there are high expectations from the team, coaches, and fans. You are also competing against more experienced players who have been in the league for several seasons. To perform well in your rookie season, it is essential to set realistic goals and expectations for yourself. It is also crucial to listen to feedback from your coaches and teammates and learn from your mistakes. Being a rookie, you are bound to make mistakes, but what matters is how you respond to them. Use them as an opportunity to learn and improve. In terms of evaluating my performance, it is important to look beyond just the statistics. While statistics are important, they do not always tell the whole story.

I'm really happy with how my rookie season went. It's hard to do better than winning the Cup in your first season, especially when our team was supposed to be entering a rebuild.

Individually, the season went way above my expectations. I led or was top 10 in the SMJHL in a lot of categories, not just among rookies but among all defensemen. I finished first in goals scored, top 3 in points, shooting percentage and powerplay goals and top 10 in assists, plus/minus and shots taken. I didn't do as well offensively during the playoffs but at least I contributed more on defense with a decent amount of shots blocked and by leading the SMJHL's defensemen in hits.

I think Lambert did pretty well during the regular season, especially considering he was a forward playing as a defenseman this season. There was a one week stretch where Lambert seemed to go on an absolute tear. I'm 90% sure half my points came from that weeklong stretch. However, Lambert definitely fell apart when the playoffs came around. I'm hoping next season when I'm in an actual forward role that Lambert will be able to take it to the next level. It will also be good getting to throw more TPE into offensive stats after trying to build a good baseline of defensive stats while trying to fill that defensive role.

When my rookie season ended, I looked back upon it with some dissatisfaction. I didn’t feel as if I contributed as much as I’d have liked. I still partly feel this way, but I’ve realized that there are some highlights. Let’s start with some of the things I’d like to improve on. The obvious one is goals, I scored four goals in sixty-six games. I shot at 6.6% meaning if I shot 100 times, I would have six goals. I don’t need to say why this needs to improve. The same goes for my points total with only 15, I was tied for lowest scoring forward on my team. While my offensive game is lacking, I have had a few accomplishments through my rookie season. Scoring was never the name of my game anyway, what is my game? Hitting. I landed 114 hits in 66 games as a rookie and placed third on my team. I was the only player on my team to win a fight, and I’ll be looking for more next season. I played strong on the defensive end as well, blocking thirty-two shots. Which was the fourth most for a winger on my team.
