The idea of getting to play hockey D&D.

I want a good community in the J, and ideally, I'd like to be on a team that's competing pretty actively. Whether I go for an early call-up or not will depend a lot on my SHL team and how things are going, but I'm looking for at least 3 seasons.
- If you had to give a 30 minute a lecture off of memory what topic would you choose?
I have a few at this point. General descriptions of my hobby interests, like Star Wars, Pokemon, and NASA history, are over a half hour. I can probably talk a half hour about my field of work because I think it's pretty cool. I may or may not be able to hit half an hour about SHL simming.
- Have you ever heard about Kelowna before joining this league?
I had not. If somebody had asked me to put it on a map, I probably would've guessed it was in Ohio.
- How do you feel about walruses?
They're alright. Duncan was pretty cool.
- What are your thoughts on the paradox of tolerance?
Short version, I think it's misnamed. In my opinion, it's not tolerance of intolerance that's the road to hell, it's the ways that those tolerant people are exploited and abused for their hope and acceptance. After a certain point, it's not a paradox of tolerance, it's an upheaval against a group or ideology that's using a person good faith actions and thoughts against them, and ultimately becomes more of a self-defense. I can't fault anyone who's not ready for that, goodness knows that I'm not ready for it in a lot of areas. I think ultimately the starting point and bare minimum is examination of one's own thoughts and actions, and then trying to do and be better.
- Any hobbies you’ve been into lately?
I haven't had a ton of time for hobbies between work, family stuff, and simming lately, but I do still enjoy video games and pop culture franchise stuff.
- What is the best book you have read and why? (Comics included)
I'll stand by my answer from last time. I don't know that I have a best book, but the one I tend to recommend because I feel like not enough people know about it is called "To Say Nothing of the Dog" by Connie Willis. It's set in a universe where there's established time travel, with certain rules and limitations that make it only really accessible to historians and archaeologists. While the author has some other more serious works in the same universe, this one is more of a comedy. It centers around an Oxford historian named Ned, who is part of a research team that is rebuilding a cathedral. One of the last pieces is a vase that's of comically outlandish design and bad taste, but cannot be recreated for various reasons. It's gone missing in time and Ned's task is to find it. He'll have to trace the timeline against constraints of society, the time travel technology, and his own sanity as an overworked 20-something pinned between an overbearing client and the client's overbearing Victorian ancestors. And yes, there is a dog.
- What do you consider the most important part of a fun league experience?
The locker room, hands down. Anything in the league starts with the locker rooms that you're in and how you interact in them.

Luxray has been my answer for a very long time because it's a cool Electric lion and I loved it so much in Gen 4. It has a challenger now in Fuecoco. I love my small, glue-eating, no-thoughts Fire croc boy.

Pokemon has been the big one lately. I still play GTAO sometimes. I picked up a game called Tracks that I'm trying to figure out, it's a voxel game based on the wooden train sets like the one I had as a kid.

I liked the SSL and decided I wanted to try another simulation league, not really being into sport outside of football/soccer and some racing sports decided to check the SSL 2-way affiliates, and had a choice between Ice Hockey and American Football and for me Ice Hockey seems like the more fun sport.
- What are your general expectations of your juniors career? Are you looking for a long and successful career as a junior player, or are you hoping to be called up to the big leagues as soon as possible?
Hoping for a long career as a junior player (for 3-4 season if 4 is indeed the maximum), but of course it also is kind off decided by which SHL team picks me up.

For 30 minutes whiteout preparation it would probably have to be some game, most likely story-based so I can kind of tell the story as well

Talking recently I guess simulation league(s), having fun in the SSL, and so far the SHL has also been fun. Talking about longer than just recently I guess gaming, watching some sports (football/soccer and F1(F2/F3), FE), and reading books.

Probably the Paladins series for getting me back into reading after a while of not really reading anything. For the rest the best book as in recommend one I would go for Shadowmarch.

Honestly, I want to succeed with teams and help them develop winning cultures & achieve goals. Whether that's in the juniors or the major leagues I'm not overly bothered. - What made you join the SHL? 5 years ago (approximately) there was a post about this league on the Red Wings subreddit and it made me want to join. 5 years later, even with valleys and peaks, I'm still here.

I view juniors as an opportunity to grow with good people. If I'm a ppg player and the vibes on the team are not good and I'm not enjoying things, that's worse than having a one point season and being with outstanding people.

I don't think people quite realize how long 30 minutes is, but I could probably give one on terrorism (my college degree was Political Science with a focus on terrorism), the NHL and fun NHL facts, and annoying bank rules and regulations (as I work at a Credit Union).
- Have you ever heard about Kelowna before joining this league? Of course, the Kelowna Rockets are to blame for that. Pretty sure Draisaitl played there.
- How do you feel about walruses? They're pretty cool, but they're also less cool than narwhals which are basically the walrus of whales if we're being honest.

- What is the best book you have read and why? (Comics included) The Martian is always pretty high on my list of books I've read. Genuinely a really good book and one that I found very difficult to put down.

I think probably 75% of my happiness, and I imagine a lot of people would agree, comes from the people in the locker room and they help make the days better even if the team is struggling. Plus when you're not struggling and are successful, it's even better with people you like.
- What’s your favorite Pokemon? Why? Shaymin or Shuckle. Shaymin I feel like is obvious, it's a tiny little grass hedgehog with a cute little flower and it's also a monster. Also Seed Flare is one of the best grass moves out there. As for Shuckle, it's so derpy I love it. I also remember watching the episode of the show where there was something about Shuckles making jelly and there was a purple shiny Shuckle that was being chased by Team Rocket and that made me sad. So I like it.
- What video games do you play? I play a lot of sports games (NHL, FIFA, F1, F1 Manager, Football Manager), but I also enjoy my shooters and things that are just kinda fun. Right now I'm playing Control and it has me fully hooked.

I'd probably be something like a Great Dane or St. Bernard as they're both bigger dogs that look scary and yet are really gentle and kind when you get to know them. I have done both, been called up right away and stuck around in juniors for a while. Using Godot as an engine (because I like open-source), I can make the most archaic version of Brick Break you've ever laid your eyes on. My code works, which at this point, is all I could've hoped for - the next step is to make it visually appealing.
- What is the best book you have read and why? (Comics included) Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, by Alexandre Dumas. The intrigue is so well-woven, the characters are interesting in their own right (and shine within the plot's structure), and who among us hasn't dreamed of a perfect revenge plan coming to fruition?
- What do you consider the most important part of a fun league experience? While having success is always a good driver for "fun", it's not the "be all, end all" of the league for me. I like seeing narratives woven as the season progresses, may it be for my player, my team, or the league as a whole. Being able to nerd out about that, may it be by "shooting the shit" about our fake players in the locker room, or posting long-winded media articles, is what makes the league fun, in my opinion.
- What’s your favorite Pokemon? Why? I have asked myself the same question a lot over the years, and yet I always go back to one of two out of the OG 151s : Arcanine and Ninetales. There's probably a nostalgia factor to it, but also - they just haven't had a design that gripped me as much as a giant, flaming hound you can ride as a mount, or a mystical fox, revered almost as a God, that can shoot huge balls of fire from their mouth. Now that is peak fiction.
- What video games do you play? I'm very much into MMOs - it all started with Ultima Online back in the day, and nowadays, I'm playing a decent amount of FF14 and Destiny 2. I also discovered a love for rogue-likes thanks to titles like Slay the Spire and Hades. Other than that, I'm more of a tactician than a twitch-happy kind of gamer, so I stick to games like Civilization, Final Fantasy Tactics (which I just restarted again for the 4th time), and Fire Emblem. I own Crusader Kings 2, but I'm scared of what that game may do to my free time...
- If you were to choose a breed of dog you would most likely be, what would it be and why? Dogs are very dependant creatures, and that just isn't me, mate. Since I do like a bit of orderly conduct, I'd probably be in the Shepherd category... Make it an Australian Shepherd, because I'm a bit of a spaz and so are they. But I'd definitely be a cat if I were to transform into an animal. Or an otter. I like otters. Are otters an option?

- What made you join the SHL? Liebolda introduced me to it and i have always been interested in hockey and games/websites like this

Are you looking for a long and successful career as a junior player, or are you hoping to be called up to the big leagues as soon as possible? My end goal is to develop enough in juniors to become an impact player in the SHL but i plan on helping my junior team win a couple championships along the way
- If you had to give a 30 minute a lecture off of memory what topic would you choose? I would give a lecture on how to play hockey. i have been playing hockey for the past 19 years and currently play in college as well as coach

- How do you feel about walruses? Im a huge fan of Walri but i think their teeth are too big
- What are your thoughts on the paradox of tolerance? After looking up what this meant i think that tolerance is good to an extent but at some point boundaries have to be set
- Any hobbies you’ve been into lately? Recently i've been cooking a lot. i enjoy trying to make healthy meals that taste good
- What is the best book you have read and why? (Comics included) Im not a fan of reading but the best book ive ever read were the diary of a wimpy kid books. the way the author told a story through pictures was incredible
- What do you consider the most important part of a fun league experience? I think winning is a very important to fun but i think that team collaboration and having a good locker room atmosphere is the most important part and plays a huge role in winning
- What’s your favorite Pokemon? Why? Gyarados is probably one of my favorites. i always end up trying to acquire on early in each game. i like that he is so powerful, and looks cool on top of being able to fly and swim
- What video games do you play? ill play anything, one of the driving factors of what i play is what my friends are playing at the time. we play a lot of sports games like NHL FIFA and UFC but recently have been playing a lot of COD and Rocket League
- If you were to choose a breed of dog you would most likely be, what would it be and why? I would be a Bernese Mountain dog, i recently got one and they are very loyal, protective and caring. They are also very fluffy which is a nice bonus

- What are your thoughts on the paradox of tolerance? its something i think about on a semi-regular basis. any time i dive in to many of life’s questions i always end up circling back to this paradox… without even knowing that it had a name. still… i stand firm on the idea that people should worry about how they conduct themselves, with others in mind, and if they did then many things in life would be so much easier.
- Any hobbies you’ve been into lately? ive been really into ancient history and archeology lately, mostly ancient Greece cause of AC Odyssey but ive started branching out and going further back in history. also lots of unsolved mysteries and the like.
- What is the best book you have read and why? (Comics included) this is tough cause i dont read a ton, always been more of a visual person. i do always randomly think about Maniac Magee from back in middle school for whatever reason. read a lot of Deadpool comics back in the like 2010, id say Cable and Deadpool holds a special place in my heart cause it got me to dive into more comics. last book i read all the way through was Invisible Monsters some time around 2015.
- What do you consider the most important part of a fun league experience? honestly, i just thoroughly enjoy seeing everyones creativity. even though i havent been around much as of late id always come back from time to time and check out the graphics or read a couple articles. i think that sort of stuff is top notch in this community and if anything has helped keep me engaged at any point its been that aspect of the league.
- What’s your favorite Pokemon? Why? charmeleon has always made me laugh cause he looks like a little pissed off asshole.
- What video games do you play? far too much Wonderlands (Borderlands). NHL, Halo, COD, Neverwinter. marathoned AC Odyssey recently. wanna get back into Rocket League.
