The difference between Mikko Rashford and me
#1

I like to think of myself as mostly a max earner. Sure, I have missed a few things here and there. Some PTs lately cause I got lazy. But mostly I still feel like I have done almost everything I can. And yet, there is basically like 150 TPE between me and the leader of my class @RashfordU who has been an absolute monster in earning.

I will probably get to 1900 TPE but not 2000, which I know is a big deal here. And I am kinda sad about that, so I wanted to know for my next career, what can I improve on? Where am I actually losing these TPE?

So I went through both of our update threads and matched up every single TPE we ever earned and here are those findings. Where did I actually lose the TPE?

Let me say that most of the things, we have exactly the same. The nature of this is simple, a lot of AC and training and such is going to always be the same. Even predictions if we have the same TPE then it matches up as well. Makes sense.

Of 423 things that either of us have earned, exactly 350 of them both of us have earned exactly the same way. So that leaves 73 things where we earned a different amount of TPE.

Let's look at those in detail.

One AC and Weekly training I actually gained on him by starting a couple days early. So that is 5 in my direction.

He wrote a first PT which I am guessing is only for new users? Maybe not. But it earned him 1 TPE. Similarly he did a Welcome Survey for 1 TPE as well.

When it comes to various predictions, we have sometimes had 1 TPE either side. I have summarized those all into one number now, so when it comes to things like 3vs3, Hatrick, Primetime, Season and Playoff Predictions and such he has by my count gained: 21 TPE

Additionally there was a primetime replacement for 5 TPE that I missed entirely. A WJC predictions I missed entirely for another 5 TPE. A mock draft I missed for 6 TPE. A playoff predictions I missed for 8 TPE.

So if you add those in, I suddnely missed 45 TPE with just predictions and 24 of those just by not doing a task. That's on me.

Speaking of tasks I missed entirely, there is a few more:

I did not do 4 PTs equaling 12 TPE, but did one mPT that he missed for a net loss of 11 TPE.

I missed a Fun 1 and a End of Season Survey and a NY Stream and one Sarmad Khan vote for another 4 TPE total.

In this most recent CW I only got 9 TPE instead of the max of 16 TPE so that is another 7 TPE lost.

All of those are ENTIRELY on me and it is possible that if I had just done those things and one other CRUCIAL task that I missed that I will get to in a second, I could have still reached 2000 TPE.

That one task was... I missed my 2nd training camp for EIGHTEEN TPE. What a rookie mistake to make. I can't believe I did that. So that is a huge miss.

But now the most interesting category to me which is TPE that he gained that I feel like especially hurt my case:

Recruitment and Fantasy.

Recruitment is something I didn't even know gave you TPE here. In his career. Rashford has earned 13 TPE from recruitment. Not the end of the world but still also a difference.

But fantasy is REALLY where Rashford set himself apart from me and destroyed me. ONE season I earned TPE from fantasy - 5 TPE and he only got 1 that year.

But otherwise Rashford won FIVE seasons of fantasy and got 3 TPE two more times, for a total of 52 TPE lost through fantasy.

I get that fantasy is important but I did not realize just how much. That is a massive impact to lose that much and I definitely will have to pay much more attention to fantasy in my next career.

All in all, I would say that is:

65 TPE from things I didn't really understand their importance of (Fantasy and recruitment)
21 TPE from being worse at predictions
18 TPE from willfully ignoring PTs and CW now at the end
24 TPE from missing predictions and not doing them
18 TPE from missing a training camp

And a few small ones for tiny tasks that I missed or couldn't do.

Looking at that, I definitely think 2,000 TPE could have been achieved. I am shocked at how much TPE of that I lost through fantasy and recruitment. But also shocked at how many tasks I did miss on my own and even just REALLY max earning and doing everything, even without fantasy and recruitment could have gotten me to 2,000.

I will do better next career around and I will make sure to be on the right track.

I'm very glad I was able to hit 2k but at the end of the day it is just a badge. At the high end of player builds, 100 or 200 TPE can only buy a handful of stat increases and doesn't change a lot.

This is a really cool media idea! I was in a very similar position back when I was about to hit regression and the outlook was that it was going to be a very close race to 2k. It was even closer for @Matteo who reached a heartbreaking 1992 TPE in his last update before regression. However, I have good news for you! The TPE calculation for the 2k badge includes TPE earned for some tasks after regression. Matty got his 2k badge (calculated at 2048 instead of 1992) and so can you! People at the top of the class like Rashford, and in my case Festinator, are going to absolutely crush the 2k ceiling, so being 146TPE down doesn't mean you won't join the elite class of 2k members. Even if you don't make it to 2k this season, it's not uncommon for players to have more TPE in their first season after regression than they had before regressing. Don't give up on the 2k dream until after your second regression!

Well that is very interesting to know. I definitely regret some of those PTs now haha.

Love the article!
And I’ve long thought the tpe for fantasy should be 5/4/3/2/1 instead of 10/5/3/1.
15 TPE split between 5 players instead of 19 between 4 players.

And don’t worry, I do still think you’ll hit 2k (in the eyes of the badge).  Feel free to send me a dm Smile

Keven so nice

GM average as well I think hurt you (not compared to Rashford). No one was anywhere close to Rash for a long while, but Shoyo has now caught up and is only 1 TPE back. Both of you are getting GM average so there's not much room to gain or lose there, but for example just in S69 Mock, GM average was 8, while Shoyo earned 10. In S68 Mock, GMs got 6, and Shoyo got 13(!!!). Wouldn't be surprised to see that add up to quite a bit against a good mocker.

Recruitment TPE will always bump some people higher than others, but not everyone can or even wants to find users to recruit.

Apart from that at least everyone has the same opportunities for TPE at least (unlike in the past), but there's always luck involved and doing well in fantasy over 10+ seasons can give you a nice boost, no doubt. I agree though that 10 TPE for first place is a bit much.
